Deschutes Brewery (Bend, Oregon) has officially announced that it will release the 2020 batch of The Abyss – available in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles for the first time in the beer’s history – in mid- to late November.
First introduced in 2006 and now “the most formally recognized and award winning barrel-aged brand for” Deschutes Brewery, The Abyss is an Imperial Stout “brewed with licorice, cherry bark, and molasses” and aged in “a blend of new Oak, bourbon and wine barrels.” Coming in at 11.7% ABV, The Abyss possesses an intense “dark malt character . . ., creating layers and layers of flavors that can be unraveled as the beer warms in the glass.”
“In this time, we are eating and drinking at home more often,” said Veronica Vega, new product development director at Deschutes. “What I find most exciting about this new format is that we can make any night something special by pouring one of these out into a snifter and having that be ‘the occasion.’”
The Abyss 2020 is available now at Deschutes locations in Bend and Portland, Oregon and is actively shipping out to distributors. Listed as a Year-Round offering, The Abyss is available in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at select craft beer-focused establishments located in Oregon, Virginia and throughout the rest of Deschutes Brewery’s 32-state distribution area. Prost!
