SmuttynoseNewIPAsSmuttynose Brewing Company (Hampton, New Hampshire) has officially announced that it will release two new Year-Round India Pale Ales at the end of October: Whole Lotta Lupulin Double IPA and Mysterious Haze New England IPA.

After a successful transition in ownership last spring, Smuttynose Brewing Company is continuing to reshape its image and future by adding the following two hop-laden brews to its Year-Round lineup (beer descriptions sourced from a newsletter and press release issued by the brewery):

Whole Lotta Lupulin

Whole Lotta Lupulin, a Double IPA with an ABV of 8.6%, is a balanced brew that features a combination of complimentary hops including Amarillo, Citra, Centennial, and NZ Motueka. The bitterness of the hops is anchored by a sturdy malt foundation made of 2-Row Malted Barley, Wheat Malt, CaraHell, and Cara Malt. Each sip of this beer bursts with grapefruit and guava notes which fuse nicely with a floral and resinous pine aroma.

  • Style – Double IPA
  • ABV – 8.6%
  • Package – 16oz four-pack can, draft
  • Release – October 2018
  • Availability – Smuttynose Distribution Network

Mysterious Haze

Mysterious Haze is a New England style IPA that is medium bodied and double dry hopped. It explores every facet of Citra hops; the grapefruit, guava, mango notes all shine through while the aftertaste leaves hints of citrus and delicate herbs. This NEIPA comes in at 6.7% ABV, and is brewed with 2-Row Malted Barley, Wheat Malt, Oats, and CaraHell.

  • Style – New England Style IPA
  • ABV – 6.7%
  • Package – 16oz four-pack can, draft
  • Release – October 2018
  • Availability – Smuttynose Distribution Network

“As New Hampshire’s leading craft brewery, we couldn’t be prouder of Mysterious Haze and Whole Lotta Lupulin. Our brewing team has been working hard and has delivered a New England IPA and Double IPA that meets our expectations in terms of taste and quality. I couldn’t be more pleased. It’s also quite exciting to be releasing both of these beers in a 4pack / 16-ounce format. We are really making great strides since our ownership transition that occurred in April of this year.”

Whole Lotta Lupulin and Mysterious Haze will both debut during the last week of October with a series of targeted release parties at bars and restaurants throughout New England.  These two Year-Round offerings are then scheduled to enter widespread distribution beginning the week of October 29.  You can expect to find Whole Lotta Lupulin and Mysterious Haze available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans – “with fresh branding and label art” – at craft beer-focused establishments located in New Hampshire and throughout the rest of Smuttynose Brewing Company’s distribution footprint (click here to access the brewery’s Beer Finder).  Prost!

Smuttynose Brewing Adds Pinniped Special to Year-Round Lineup

Bottle-Images-PinnipedSmuttynose Brewing Company (Hampton, New Hampshire) recently introduced Pinniped Special Vienna-style Lager as the brewery’s newest Year-Round offering.

To create an authentic version of the style created by Brewmaster Anton Dreher in 1841, the brewers at Smuttynose Brewing Company have developed Pinniped Special Vienna-style Lager by “using a combination of German and American ingredients to create a smooth complex malt flavor with notes of caramel and toasted bread.”  Balance is then achieved with a “clean hop flavour and bitterness” sourced from Sterling and Saphir hops.  For added authenticity, Pinniped Special is brewed in Smuttynose’s “German Steinecker brew house using a traditional decoction method.”  All of this attention to detail results in 5.2% ABV Vienna-style Lager that is true to style and “the perfect beer to enjoy at the beach during the summer or around the fire in winter.”

“We’ve always been big fans of the Vienna-style lagers, so we’re really excited that we have the opportunity to offer this year-round” said Peter Egelston, founder and president of Smuttynose Brewing Company. “We used a lot of classic Austrian ingredients and brewing techniques to make it as authentic and true to the style as possible, and we think Vienna would be proud.”

Pinniped Special Vienna-style Lager is available now in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles, 12-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft.  This new Year-Round brew can be found at craft beer-friendly establishments located in Alabama, Florida, New Hampshire and throughout the rest of Smuttynose’s distribution network.  Prost!

Fun Fact – “You’re probably wondering what, exactly, a pinniped is at this point. So let’s educate! Pinnipeds are part of the pinnipedia family, or according to our friends at dictionary.com, a sea mammal with “all four limbs adapted into flippers for aquatic life, including seals and walruses.” So that cute, cuddly seal in our logo? Pinniped. So the next time someone says beer can’t teach you anything, drop a pinniped knowledge bomb. Seems like that victory sip of your Pinniped Special will never be sweeter.”

Summer IPA Makes Seasonal Debut for Smuttynose Brewing Company

SummerIPA-410sq

Smuttynose Brewing Company (Hampton, New Hampshire) recently announced the release of Summer IPA as the brewery’s newest summer Seasonal offering.

To create a sessionable remedy for ridiculously hot weather and poolside thirst, the brewers at Smuttynose developed Summer IPA with a recipe punctuated by citrus and tropical fruit notes sources from the use of Zeus, Citra, Saphir, and Amarillo hops.  With that hop profile gliding across a “subtle malt sweetness,” this easy-drinking India Pale Ale (5% ABV) comes together with a flavor and aroma that “is both complex and hoppy while perfectly balanced.”

“We wanted to make an IPA that’s perfect for a summer day, and we think we nailed it,” said Peter Egelston, Founder and President of Smuttynose Brewing Company. “It’s got all the hoppiness and bite of a classic IPA, and it’s perfect for any summer activity.”

Smuttynose Brewing Launches Heritage Series with Return of S’Muttonator

SBC-Heritage-Smuttonator-403x600Smuttynose Brewing Company (Hampton, New Hampshire) recently announced that S’Muttonator Double Bock has returned to be the first limited release in the brewery’s Heritage Series.

Smuttynose Brewing Company has established the Heritage Series so that they may reflect upon and revisit some of their favorite beers from the brewery’s nearly quarter century-long history.   Any beer from the past is “fair game”, so this series will be comprised of “old year-round favorites, discontinued seasonals, [and] limited-run Big Beers.”  New Heritage Series offerings will be released every quarter.

Since S’Muttonator Double Bock has been a long-standing fan-favorite at Smuttynose, it only makes sense for it to be the first release in the Heritage Series.  This offering is a double decocted (more info available below) Doppelbock that displays “the characteristically full malt flavor that can only come from using the best German specialty malts, and a traditional decoction mashing technique.”  The brewing process for this offering may be labor intensive, but it pays off by producing “a nutty, toffee flavor with a smooth backbone, a hallmark of double bocks.”  Finally, the S’Muttonator name itself pays tribute to brewing tradition by using the “‘-ator’ suffix that’s found on the names of double bock beers around the world.”

“After nearly twenty-five years and hundreds of different brews, we wanted to celebrate some of our favorites,” said Smuttynose Brewing Company founder and President Peter Egelston. “S’Muttonator has been one of our most popular beers for years, so making it the first entry into our Heritage Series was a logical choice.”

S’Muttonator Double Bock is available now and will be hanging around for a limited time.  You can find this offering in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at select craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, New Hampshire and throughout the rest of Smuttynose’s distribution footprint.  Pick up a four-pack or order a pour of S’Muttonator whenever you happen upon it so that you can revisit a few memories with the folks of Smuttynose Brewing Company by way of the Heritage Series.  Prost!

Rhye IPA Goes Year-Round for Smuttynose Brewing Company

SBC-12oz-Bottle-RHYE-silver-192x600Smuttynose Brewing Company (Hampton, New Hampshire) has announced that Rhye IPA has been officially promoted to the brewery’s Year-Round line-up.

If it is possible for a beer to serve as an example of persistence, that beer would be Rhye IPA.  This offering originally got its start as an experimental release in Smuttynose Brewing’s Big Beer Series, and its popularity quickly earned this brew a place in the brewery’s Seasonal line-up.   Even with this change, the hop-loving masses voiced that they wanted more access to Rhye IPA.  The brewery has listened and will now meet that demand by once again reclassifying Rhye IPA to become a Year-Round offering.

The brewers at Smuttynose lay the base of Rhye IPA with a variety of malts (including North American 2-Row, Rye, Aromatic, and CaraRye), but the goal is to ensure that the spiciness of rye stands out.  To complement that character, “Magnum hops were used for bittering, and Falconer’s Flight and Citra were added for flavor and dry-hopping.”  This all results in 6.9% ABV, “hoppy IPA, with rye spiciness and big hop character.”

Rhye IPA will officially roll out as a Year-Round offering beginning on April 3.  This offering will be available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles, 12-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, New Hampshire and throughout the rest of Smuttynose’s distribution area.  It has been a long road for Rhye IPA, so make sure you show the beer a little love by picking up a sixer while on your next beer run.  Prost!

Durer was renowned throughout Europe for his wooden prints, and he worked with some of the most famous painters and artists of the day, including Da Vinci, Raphael, and many more.
Durer had never seen a rhino before, and created the drawing based on a description and a crudely scribbled sketch.”
