New Belgium Brewing Goes 100% Wood-aged with Transatlantique Kriek and Doses Voodoo Ranger with Passionfruit

TransatlantiqueKriek2017_22ozBottle_MNew Belgium Brewing (Ft. Collins, Colorado) recently announced that it is hitting the month of June with two Limited Release offerings: 2017 Transatlantique Kriek and Voodoo Ranger Passionfruit Imperial IPA.

The brewers at New Belgium are incredibly proud of 2017 Transatlantique Kriek because this year’s release has the distinction of being 100% wood-aged for the first time in the beer’s history.  This Sour Ale is a blend of “50 percent New Belgium Foeder-aged Golden Sour and 50 percent Authentic Kriek Lambic from Brewery Oud Beersel.”  This beer begins in Belgium where Oud Beersel creates a spontaneously fermented Lambic that is soured in oak barrels.  That Lambic then becomes a Kriek after months of maturing on Polish cherries.  Once completed, the Authentic Kriek Lambic is sent to New Belgium to blend with their “oak-aged sour golden” to create Transatlantique Kriek.  The 6.5% ABV Kriek has a flavor profile that “is spritzy, mouthwatering and fruity, along with tartness from the cherries.”  2017 Transatlantique Kriek is available now in 22 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer friendly establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina and throughout the rest of New Belgium’s expansive distribution network.

“This year’s beer is particularly iconic because it’s 100% wood aged,” said Andrew Emerton, New Belgium Specialty Brand Manager. “Because of our process with this beer, we actually had the incredible honor of having Transatlantique Kriek at this year’s Toer de Geuze in Belgium, the premier sour beer event in the world.”

“We showcased our beer alongside 12 other authentic lambic producers,” added Lauren Limbach, New Belgium’s Wood Cellar Director & Blender. “It was an incredible honor and a total dream come true!”

VRSR_Passionfruit_Imperial_IPA_22ozAs an added bonus, New Belgium Brewing is also releasing the newest addition to its Voodoo Ranger lineup this month: Voodoo Ranger Passionfruit Imperial IPA.  This specialty release is a “crisp and refreshing” American Double India Pale Ale that has “tropical aromas and passionfruit flavors . . . backed by a strong presence of Citra and Galaxy hops.”  Although it may weigh in at a sizable 8% ABV, Voodoo Ranger Passionfruit Imperial IPA still promises to be a perfect pairing for summer.  This Specialty Release is available for a limited time in 22 oz. bottles and on draft at select craft beer destinations located within New Belgium’s distribution area.

Both 2017 Transatlantique Kriek and Voodoo Ranger Passionfruit Imperial IPA are only available for a limited time, so be sure to check them out while you can.  Prost!
