Avery Brewing Company Names Nuttiest Professor as 45th Barrel-Aged Series Beer

AverylogoAvery Brewing Company (Boulder, Colorado) has officially announced that it will begin the release of Nuttiest Professor Barrel-aged Imperial Peanut Stout on Monday, June 26.

After years of experimentation focused on developing a Peanut Butter Stout that achieves the desired level of real peanut flavor, Avery Brewing Company finally believes it has hit the mark with the creation of Nuttiest Professor.  Arriving as the 45th installment in the brewery’s Barrel-Aged Series, this “creamy and colossal” Imperial Stout (15.2% ABV) has been aged in Bourbon barrels and “uses real peanuts to create a rich and decadent stout that allows all elements—the bourbon character, peanuts, and dark malts—to shine.”

“This beer was actually inspired by a homebrew that I did before I even worked at Avery,” says Travis Rupp, Avery’s Research and Development Manager and Beer Archaeologist. “Those initial batches were difficult to produce and there was so much oil from the peanuts that there was no head retention at all. Fast-forward many years, I’m now part of the Special Projects team at Avery and we decided to recreate this beer, but do it right this time. We use finely ground peanut flour instead of just adding peanuts, which will give this beer a blast of peanut flavor, but also will help the head retention due to reduced oil”.

Nuttiest Professor Barrel-aged Imperial Peanut Stout will officially launch on draft in Avery Brewing Company’s Tap Room on June 26.  This incredibly limited offering will then hit shelves throughout the month of July in 12 oz. bottles at select craft beer locations found within Avery’s nationwide distribution area (this of course excludes Alabama and any other states that do not allow for beers of this ABV level).  Supplies of Nuttiest Professor are extremely limited, so be sure to secure your bottle if you can “because once it is gone, it’s gone for good.” Prost!
