Monday Night Brewing Set to Release Excolatur Dark Sour

MNBexcolaturpourMonday Night Brewing (Atlanta, Georgia) has announced that it will officially begin the limited release of Excolatur Dark Sour on February 10.

Coming at you straight out of Monday Night Brewing’s Garage Series, Excolatur – pronounced echo-lahtour and Latin for “development” – is a Dark Sour Ale that has spent over two years aging in Bourbon and Rum barrels and an additional four months over Montmorency cherries.  To supply Excolatur with its lovely Wild/Sour Ale character, Monday Night’s brewers inoculated the beer with a combination of lactobacillus and pediococcus [to give it] a clean sourness with just enough funk to remind you it is, like the fox on the bottle, wild and untamed.”  This all results in a 9.7% ABV Excolatur that possesses “an acidity similar to wine.”

“When I think of this beer, I think of a dark, double barrel aged, pretty agreeable dark sour. We get a lot of barrel expression from the rum and Bourbon barrels, and then we added another source of sugar with the Montmorency cherries,” said Monday Night’s head brewer and barrel program director Peter Kiley. “This is truly a one-of-a-kind beer that I’m not sure we can make again, so let’s enjoy it while we have it.”

After it makes an official debut at Monday Night Brewing’s Garage location on February 10, Excolatur will then enter distribution by mid-February.  Once released, you can expect to find this Garage Series offering available in 500ml bottles and on draft at select craft beer establishments located in Alabama and Georgia.  Prost!

Monday Night Brewing Launches Whirling Dervish Coffee Stout as New Seasonal

MondayNightWDCSMonday Night Brewing (Atlanta, Georgia) has officially announced that it will begin the Seasonal release of Whirling Dervish Coffee Stout on January 20.

To give 2018 the roasty, coffee-fueled kick in the pants that it needs, Monday Night Brewing has created Whirling Dervish Coffee Stout with the help of Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters.  Named for the coffee blend used in its recipe, Whirling Dervish is a classic Dry Irish Stout that takes on the coffee’s rich “flavor notes of chocolate, molasses, toasted almond and orange zest.”

“Don’t let the low ABV (4.9%) fool you,” said Monday Night’s creative brewer Josh Johnson. “We packed a lot of roasty and toasty flavor into this beer. It’s an everyday drinker on cold winter nights – or anytime you need a little coffee kick.”

Whirling Dervish Coffee Stout will officially debut on January 20 at Monday Night Brewing’s West Midtown location, and distribution will follow shortly thereafter.  Once fully released, you can expect this Seasonal offering to be available for a limited time in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at craft beer establishments located within Monday Night’s distribution footprint in Alabama and Georgia.  Prost!

Monday Night Brewing’s Bourbon Barrel Drafty Kilt Makes Limited Return

MondayNightBBADK4pack_editedMonday Night Brewing (Atlanta, Georgia) recently announced that its award-winning Bourbon Barrel Drafty Kilt is back for a limited release, and this time around it is available in 4-packs of 12 oz. cans.

To create this wildly popular Black Tie Series release, the brewers at Monday Night take their Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale and let it rest for an extended period of time in Kentucky Bourbon barrels.  It is here that the base beer’s “chocolate, caramel, and roasted malts” pick up the barrel’s complementary notes of “charred oak and vanilla.”  That time and attention eventually results in the 8.5% ABV Bourbon Barrel Drafty Kilt that won a gold medal in the Wood and Barrel-aged Beer category at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival.  Yeah . . . it’s that friggin’ good.

Monday Night Brewing Revives Serrano Eye Patch Ale

Serrano-Eye-Patch-Clip-On-500pxMonday Night Brewing (Atlanta, Georgia) recently announced that Serrano Eye Patch Ale will be returning for an encore release in April.

Originally released in 2015, Serrano Eye Patch Ale quickly became one of the most popular offerings to come out of Monday Night Brewing’s Clip-On series, a Seasonal lineup that is comprised of creative variants of the brewery’s six core beers.  After a couple years of requests from many dedicated fans, the brewery has finally decided that is time to brew up another batch of this one.  As the name implies, Serrano Eye Patch Ale spices things up a bit by adding fresh cut Serrano peppers to the brewery’s “award-winning English-style IPA, Eye Patch Ale.” The added peppers lend this crisp India Pale Ale a touch of pepper bite that is tempered nicely by the beer’s “caramelly front.”

Monday Night Brewing and ASW Distillery Collaborate on Scottish-Style Single Malt Whiskey

aswmnbMonday Night Brewing (Atlanta, Georgia) recently announced that they have partnered with ASW Distillery (Atlanta, Georgia) on the creation and release of Monday Night Scottish-Style Single Malt Whiskey.

Although this is the first collaboration spirit created by Monday Night and ASW, the long-standing relationship between these two dates back to when “Monday Night co-founder Joel Iverson lived next door to ASW co-founder Charlie Thompson” before either had their current businesses.  A friendship started innocently when Joel invited Charlie to homebrew tastings, and that bond naturally carried over when they eventually established their respective brewery and distillery.  After co-sponsoring several events in Atlanta together and ASW Distillery sponsoring one of Monday Night’s first anniversary parties, a collaboration project was just the next natural step for the two companies.

This project became a reality just about as soon as Monday Night’s Brewmaster Adam Bishop met ASW’s Head Distiller Justin Manglitz and discovered that they shared an ” adorably obsessive love of all things chemistry and alcohol.”  The two then hatched a plan “to produce a smooth, smoky whiskey.”  The process started with Monday Night brewing up “a mash rich in Cherrywood-smoked malt” – the same malt used in the brewery’s Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale.  Once the mash was taken to ASW, “it was distilled . . . in traditional Scottish-style twin copper pot stills before being transferred into new American white oak quarter casks.”  There it aged until Monday Night and ASW were confident that they had a Scotch-style Whiskey that boasts “a pleasant bite . . . with a smooth, slightly sweet, and delightfully smoky finish.”

Monday Night Scottish-Style Single Malt Whiskey will start hitting Atlanta area shelves in early March.  This offering will be available in 750ml bottles for the “expected retail price of $59” each.  If you feel it necessary to be one of the first to try Monday Night Scottish-Style Single Malt Whiskey, ASW Distillery will be hosting a small release party on Monday, February 27.  Advanced tickets for the party will be available for purchase on Monday Night Brewing’s website beginning on Monday, February 6.  We will be sure to update this post with that ticket link and any further release information once it surfaces.  Stay tuned.  Prost!

Monday Night Brewing takes their Clip-On Series to the Friend Zone

friendzone6pack-800x533_editedMonday Night Brewing (Atlanta, Georgia) has announced that they would like to establish some boundaries and introduce us all to the Friend Zone SMaSH Pale Ale.

Cleverly named to embody the single lifestyle, Friend Zone is an American Pale Ale of the SMaSH variety, (S)ingle (M)alt (a)nd (S)ingle (H)op.  This beer’s minimalist recipe features just “one lonely Mandarina Bavaria hop” and “one lonely Pilsner malt.”  Although these two may be flying solo, they come together to produce a 6.2% ABV Pale Ale filled with notes of sweet grain and citrus.  For a little more information on this brew, here is the full label description for Friend Zone:

“‘Boyfriend’ and ‘Boy friend.’ See that little Space? That’s the friend zone.”  -Unknown

“Once she tells you that she “loves you like a brother,” you know you’ve been relegated to the Friend Zone.  If that ever happens, and we hope it doesn’t, this is your beer.

A single light malt gives hints of honey to sweeten your day.  Mandarina Bavaria hops lend an aroma of sweet orange peel to remind you that one day someone will find you a-peel-ing.”

Friend Zone SMaSH Pale Ale is the latest release in Monday Night’s Clip-On Series, a lineup that typically consists of “variations on year-round beers, available for 3-4 months at a time in 6-packs and on draft.”  This offering was officially launched on January 8 and it can be found now at craft beer establishments in Alabama and throughout the rest of the Monday Night Brewing distribution footprint.  SMaSH beers are a fantastic way to get to know your beer ingredients, so get your education on by picking up a 6-pack of Friend Zone during your next beer run.  Prost!
