Catawba Brewing Co. to Launch Friki Tiki IPA Series

CatawbalogoCatawba Brewing Co. (Asheville, North Carolina) recently announced plans to roll out their Friki Tiki Series, a new lineup of Seasonal fruited IPAs, with the release of Friki Tiki Pineapple IPA on July 14.

The idea for the Friki Tiki Series was originally conceived back in December when the folks at Catawba Brewing Co. brewed up a batch of Pineapple IPA for their Tropical Xmas Party.  Since that beer and several subsequent “fruit-forward hoppy beers” from the brewery’s Small Batch Series proved to be incredibly popular with fans, Catawba Brewing has now decided to fully commit to this concept by establishing Friki Tiki as a new series of rotating, seasonally-released fruit IPAs.

Each release in the Friki Tiki Series will start with a base India Pale Ale recipe that utilizes flaked wheat in the mash to impart “the soft mouthfeel and juicy character associated with New England IPAs.” The hop bill for each of these IPAs will consist of West Coast hops that have been “carefully chosen to complement a massive addition of real fruit.”  To “ensure optimal freshness,” the beers of the Friki Tiki Series will only feature seasonal fruit selections that properly complement each offering’s “tropical and citrus-forward character.”

The Friki Tiki Series will fittingly kick off with the revival and widespread release of Friki Tiki Pineapple IPA.  This Seasonal offering will officially launch at release events held at all four Catawba tasting room locations on Friday, July 14.  Shortly after launch, Friki Tiki Pineapple IPA will then be sent out as a draft-only release to select craft beer establishments located in Alabama, North Carolina, and throughout the rest of Catawba Brewing’s distribution footprint.  More detailed information concerning Friki Tiki Pineapple IPA is sure to be released soon, and we will update you with that info just as soon as we get it.  Prost!

Catawba Brewing Co. to Introduce HOPness Monster as New Flagship IPA

CatawbaHOPnessCatawba Brewing Co. (Morganton, North Carolina) has announced that it will be adding HOPness Monster IPA to its Year-Round portfolio beginning on Saturday, May 20.

Claiming that they have crafted “a beer for the new breed of hophead”, Catawba Brewing Co. is shaking up in their line of Year-Round brews with the introduction of HOPness Monster IPA.  Inspired by a “mysterious beast that lurks in the cold fresh waters of Western North Carolina, terrorizing poor, hop-shy souls”, HOPness Monster has risen from the depths of Catawba’s pilot brewery in Asheville.  After the beer was tested in small batches across the city, the brewery decided to move forward with a recipe packed with Citra and Cascade hops to create “a big biting hop profile layered with ripe tropical fruit, juicy citrus, and pine.”  Weighing in at 6.5% ABV and 60 IBUs, HOPness Monster IPA promises to achieve “the perfect balance of everyday drinkability with intensely aromatic and flavorful hop character.”  HOPness Monster will officially replace Firewater India Pale Ale as the brewery’s flagship IPA.

HOPness Monster IPA will make its debut at launch parties held at all Catawba Brewing Co. tasting room locations on Saturday, May 20.  This offering will then enter distribution “immediately afterwards”.  You can expect to find this new Year-Round brew available in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at craft beer establishments located in Alabama, North Carolina and throughout the rest of Catawba’s distribution footprint.  Prost!

Catawba Brewing Co. Heralds Return of Peanut Butter Jelly Time

catawbapbjlogoCatawba Brewing Co. (Morganton, North Carolina) recently announced that Peanut Butter Jelly Time will be making a much-anticipated return on Friday, March 3.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time is a beer that has reached nearly legendary status in the craft beer community because Catawba Brewing has always rejected the idea of shortcuts when it comes to this offering.  Instead, they are dedicated to brewing it the hard way – a.k.a. The Right Way.  Starting with an American Brown Ale recipe to provide a “bready base for the star ingredients,” this specialty release is then aged for weeks on whole-roasted North Carolina peanuts and real Oregon raspberries. Catawba believes that only this “proprietary brewing process” can yield the true peanut butter notes and ” the bold complementary flavor of fruity jam” necessary to create the experience of “an entire delicious sandwich in a glass.”

The limited release of Peanut Butter Jelly Time will officially begin on March 3.  This Specialty offering will be available on draft and in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans at select craft beer retailers in Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.  There will also be a “commemorative collector’s edition PB&J Stanley Classic Lunchbox – containing beer, merch, and an original art print – . . . available exclusively in Catawba tasting rooms.”  The brewery plans to nearly double last year’s production numbers for Peanut Butter Jelly Time, but that does not mean you should expect it to “last much beyond April 2, which happens to be National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day 2017.”  Secure your cans when you see them because no one wants to miss out on some Peanut Butter Jelly Time.  Prost!
