Field Trip: Media Reception & Beer Launch at New Realm Brewing Company

radegastLast week, we had the pleasure of attending a VIP Media Reception and Beer Launch event at New Realm Brewing Company (Atlanta, Georgia) and we have returned to supply you with a photographic account of our experience at this newly established craft beer institution that is sure to have a huge impact on Atlanta’s beer scene.

Established by Carey Falcone, Bob Powers and IPA whisperer Mitch Steele, New Realm Brewing Company is a 20,000 square-foot facility located on Atlanta’s Beltline.  This game-changing destination brewery houses a 25hl, four vessel brewhouse and 50hl tank farm from Krones Steinecker, a stunning taproom and restaurant, multiple multipurpose rooms that can act as event space or additional seating, several bars, a dedicated growler station, and a rooftop deck featuring a breathtaking view of the Atlanta skyline.  The brewery’s main system will be focused on creating world-class, regular rotation offerings while a pilot system will be dedicated to churning out a regular stream of creative and innovative one-offs and experimental batches.  Helmed by General Manager Don Mioton and Executive Chef Julio Delgado, New Realm’s restaurant “[blends] global flavors and southern techniques” to offer a delicious menu that pairs beautifully with the house beers.  Speaking of those beers, New Realm offerings will span the style spectrum, but you can rest assured that you will see many hop-laden brews from Mitch Steele.

New Realm Brewing Company officially opened to the public on Monday (January 8), but we were lucky enough to get a first look at the facility last week.  Although part of me wishes that we returned home with a notebook full of technical data on the brewery and the beers, it was kind of refreshing to hear that this event was meant to have more of a relaxed, hangout atmosphere rather than that of a formal interview.  When I say refreshing, I mean that more so from the perspective of the New Realm team that was facing an opening week that would be full of photo ops, interviews, and the intense scrutiny of being a new brewery and restaurant in a major U.S. city.  This was the crew’s last chance to take a breath and a moment to celebrate before that coming storm. It was a needed break disguised as a soft opening and media event.

We wanted to respect that, so our conversations with Mitch Steele and everyone else at New Realm were limited to small talk about our personal lives, the beer industry in general, hobbies, and good food.  Although fun for us, we realized that those discussions would not produce interesting copy.  So . . . we adjusted our approach to the event and instead decided to document our experience through photos.  We want you to experience this place through our eyes, and hopefully that will inspire you to visit New Realm, sample the beers, have a meal, take the tour, and experience something truly special.  We hope that you enjoy the gallery and, above all, realize that you need to experience all that can be found in New Realm.  Prost!

New Realm Brewing Appoints Executive Chef and Restaurant General Manager

NewrealmlogoNew Realm Brewing Company (Atlanta, Georgia) has officially announced that General Manager, Don Mioton and Executive Chef, Julio Delgado have been hired on to lead operations at the brewery’s highly anticipated, in-house restaurant.

Confident that their talents are a perfect pairing for the beers and vibe soon to be produced at the brewery, the folks at New Realm Brewing Company have named Don Mioton and Julio Delgado as the leadership team for their restaurant.  Taking the title of General Manager, Mioton previously held position at American Cut & Regent Cocktail Club in Atlanta’s Buckhead area.  After previously working as Executive Chef at JP, a restaurant in downtown Atlanta’s Hotel Indigo, Delgado will slide into the same role at New Realm.

Having hit the ground running, this impressive duo is currently “putting the final touches” on New Realm’s menu.  Executive Chef Delgado plans to build his dishes with “inspiration from Brewmaster Mitch Steele’s craft beers as well as the area’s local farms in order to create an approachable menu, which is rooted in tradition.”  Showcasing a “blend of global flavors and southern techniques”, the menu will include dishes such as “a house ground prime beef burger on a brioche bun, a beer can Springer Mountain Farms half chicken, as well as four hickory wood-fired pizzas cooked to perfection in a dedicated pizza kitchen which guests will see on display on their way to the brewery’s main entrance.”

When it comes to the restaurant space itself, guests will have the option to enjoy their meals “in a variety of seated locations within New Realm Brewing including a main dining room, an interior bar, a lower level patio, an outdoor beltline beer garden or the rooftop patio where the view is spectacular. New Realm Brewing will also have a private dining room on the lower level and a second level tasting room/tour center, both of which will house special events like weddings, private parties and corporate meetings.”

Although an official date has not yet been set, New Realm Brewing Company is hoping to open in the very near future so that it can begin sharing some beers and the culinary talents of Mioton and Delgado with Atlanta’s craft beer faithful.  Once an official opening date is made public, we will be sure to update you with that information here.  Stay tuned.  Prost!

New Realm Brewing Reveals Plans for its Upcoming Location in Atlanta’s Beltline

The New Realm Brewing Company team: Mitch Steele, Bob Powers & Carey Falcone

Now that construction is in full swing, New Realm Brewing Company (Atlanta, Georgia) has come forward to release some details concerning their new brewery that is set to open in the fall at 550 Somerset Terrace NE, in a new Atlanta development named Common Ground.

Back in mid-March, we brought you the news that the new, Atlanta craft beer project from partners Carey Falcone, Bob Powers and Mitch Steele had officially been named New Realm Brewing Company.  The project has since moved forward with construction and design, and we are happy to now bring you those details as well.

Once completed, the New Realm Brewing Company facility will seat a total of 400 guests in an industrial space that consists of “a main dining room, . . . an interior bar, a
lower level patio, an outdoor beltline beer garden, [and] a rooftop patio.”  The entertaining areas of the brewery will also feature “a private dining room on the lower level and a second level tasting room/tour center, both of which will house special events like weddings, private parties and corporate meetings.”

With the help of Dan Maas and the rest of the team at Atlanta-based firm ai3, the aesthetic design of New Realm Brewing Company starts with “a color palette of rich earthy tones . . .  highlighted by subtle pops of deep green.”  From there, the facility takes on a rustic-industrial feel thanks to the use of “reclaimed hickory mixed with railroad timbers, raw steel . . . oil-rubbed bronze . . . [and] industrial style lighting.”  The design is completed with “artistic touches such as hand-carved wooden hop art, rusted steel New Realm logo, stone Radagast heads, and more.”

“ai3 is looking forward to seeing New Realm Brewing Company open their doors and pour their first beer,” said Dan Maas ai3 partner. “We are excited for our clients who have been working extremely hard to realize their vision.”

As guests wander through the space, they will be able to “enjoy several views looking directly into the brewery overlooking New Realm’s 25hl, four vessel brewhouse and 50hl tank farm from Krones Steinecker, and Mitch Steele’s brewing team in action.”  Once fully operational, Steele expects that the brewing facility “will be able to produce approximately 20,000 barrels at full production and will have the capability to keg, bottle and can.”

With construction in the very capable hands of the 100% employee-owned Choate Construction Company, the folks at New Realm Brewing Company anticipate an opening date to land somewhere in the fall of 2017.  We will hit you with opening plans/dates once that information is released, so stay tuned.  In the meantime, check out the exterior rendering of New Realm’s facility below.  Prost!

Mitch Steele’s New Atlanta Project to be Named New Realm Brewing Company

NewrealmlogoNot too long ago, Mitch Steele, Carey Falcone and Bob Powers hit the craft beer community with news that they had partnered to open a new brewery in Atlanta, Georgia.  Well, that project now has a name: New Realm Brewing Company.

Still very much in the planning and preparation stages, New Realm Brewing Company will soon break ground on a “20,000
square foot space located at 820 Ralph McGill Avenue in the growing Beltline area of Atlanta.”  Once completed, the New Realm facility will consist of a production brewery, restaurant, rooftop bar and beer garden to provide “visitors a distinctive venue to enjoy craft beer and great artisanal foods in an inviting, unique and fun atmosphere.”

“We could not be more thrilled to announce our name, New Realm,” said Carey Falcone Co-Founder and CEO.  “It has taken us quite a bit of time (over many beers, of course) to create our vision and land on the right name for our future brewery and restaurant.  New Realm speaks to our desire to create a new realm in brewing and dining experiences, and to support an outstanding and dynamic local craft beer community.”

The idea of the space itself is enough to get excited about, but the real draw of New Realm Brewing Company will of course be the beer.  With Brewmaster and COO Mitch Steele – former Brewmaster at Stone Brewing Co. and the man who literally wrote the book on American India Pale Ales – at the helm of brewing operations, craft beer fans can “count on IPAs being poured at New Realm as well as barrel‐aged beers and traditional lagers.”

If you would like to stay up-to-date on the progress at New Realm Brewing Company, you can follow the brewery directly through their social media accounts:

Of course, you can also check back here as we will most certainly be updating you with any and all information coming out of this exciting new project in Atlanta.  Prost!

Former Stone Brewing Brewmaster Plans to Open Brewpub in Atlanta

It has been officially announced that Mitch Steele, Carey Falcone and Bob Powers will soon be joining the Atlanta craft beer community by opening a new brewpub in 2017.

Boasting quite the roster of beer industry veterans, Atlanta’s newest, exciting brewpub project will be led by American Beerworks Chief Executive Officer Carey Falcone, American Beerworks Chief Sales Marketing Officer Bob Powers and Former Stone Brewing Co. Brewmaster Mitch Steele.  The true name recognition and star power drawing attention to this new endeavor belongs to Steele.  While at Stone Brewing, he helped the brewery become the 10th largest craft brewer in the country and he literally wrote the book on brewing the IPA style.  His brewing expertise will be an invaluable addition to the craft beer scene in Atlanta and the Southeast.

“I’ve enjoyed a wonderful career in craft brewing and I am excited for this next chapter in Atlanta,” said Steele. “I had an amazing time at Stone and I am very thankful for my experiences there. Now, I am looking forward to the opportunity to become part of the growing craft beer movement in Atlanta and the Southeast.”

The yet-to-be-named brewpub project already has a location locked down at 820 Ralph McGill Avenue on Atlanta’s Beltline.  This state-of-the-art facility “will offer Atlanta a distinctive place to enjoy craft beer, great artisanal food, and an inviting atmosphere.”  You can expect the brewpub to feature a rooftop bar, an outdoor biergarten, brewery tours, and brewing workshops for homebrewers.  More details are to come, so stay tuned for any and all updates.  Prost!
