Sun King Brewery Releases 10-4 Good Buddy Collaboration 4-Pack

SunKingVertBannerLogoSun King Brewery (Indianapolis, Indiana) has officially announced that it is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with the Limited Release of 10-4 Good Buddy, a mixed 4-pack of 16 oz. cans comprised of collaboration beers with 3 Floyds Brewing Co. (Munster, Indiana), Austin Beerworks (Austin, Texas), Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, Florida) and Rhinegeist Brewery (Cincinnati, Ohio).

Since “collaboration [has been] at the core of Sun King’s success” for ten amazing years, the brewery has decided to celebrate that “decade of award-winning beers, and the collaborative spirit of the brewing industry” with the release of 10-4 Good Buddy. This mixed 4-pack of 16 oz. cans contains the following four beers brewed in collaboration with “independent breweries from across the U.S” (descriptions sourced directly from the Sun King’s press release):

  • Collabergé | Austin Beerworks – An Imperial Brut IPA that brings the dryness of champagne with an assertive hop profile.

“This collaboration was what it is all about,” said Will Golden, co-founder of Austin Beerworks. “A true friendship, complete with a lot of the bad jokes! The hospitality from Hoosiers is not just a saying y’all, they mean it! All I have to say is I can’t wait to come back!”

  • Highway Queen | Cigar City Brewing – A Sour Golden Ale with Zinfandel grapes, sour cherries, and raspberries aged on oak.

“Working with Dave and the Sun King team was a great, innovative experience that was in the planning process for months,” said Wayne Wambles, brewmaster at Cigar City Brewing. “The beer makes use of an experimental yeast strain that produces lactic acid combined with a combination of fruits that lend complex acidity as well as fruit harmony. It was a pleasure to celebrate Sun King’s tenth anniversary by creating this wonderful beer with them.”

  • Hoppiness Jones | Rhinegeist Brewery – An IPA that was aged in both Tequila and Pinot Noir barrels, infused with hibiscus, and is dry hopped.

“We’ve known Sun King for a long time, since before we even existed as a brewery, and they have been a great mentor and a good buddy for us over the years,” said Bryant Goulding, co-founder of Rhinegeist. “We’re thankful to be able to work together on this high-powered collaboration alongside three other brewers for whom we also have much respect, and we’re excited to help celebrate this special decade milestone. Happy birthday Sun King! Mad respect!”

  • Maximum Overdrive | 3 Floyds Brewing Co. – A Baltic Porter brewed with Indiana malt from Sugar Creek Malt, two different yeast strains, and American and Slovenian hops.

“It’s great to brew with Sun King on their 10th anniversary” said Nick Floyd, owner of 3 Floyds Brewing. “Being a part of a one-time 4-pack was cool, as was hanging out with Clay and Dave. Congratulations to Sun King and the other brewers that participated. Looking forward to trying some at Dark Lord Day.”

“Sun King Brewery began as a collaboration between two professional brewers and friends sharing ideas over a few pints about what they would want their own brewery to be like, and grew with the insights of our business partners, and the input and hard work of our team,” said Clay Robinson, co-founder of Sun King Brewery. “We have continued to share and create beers with so many of our respected peers along the way, and we wanted to create something unique and special for our 10th Anniversary. 10-4 Good Buddy represents the creativity and camaraderie that is the heart of, not just Sun King, but the independent craft beer industry.”

The 10-4 Good Buddy 4-pack of 16 oz. cans will debut at all Sun King locations on May 23 and is scheduled to hit “liquor stores and restaurants across Indiana the following week.” This exclusive 4-pack will also be available at select craft beer-focused establishments located in Jacksonville and Tampa, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio; and Louisville, Kentucky beginning in June. Sun King Brewery Expands Distribution to Florida

SunKingPour_editedSun King Brewery (Indianapolis, Indiana) has officially announced that it has formed a partnership with Cavalier Distributing of Florida so that they can expand the brewery’s reach to the state of Florida.

What began as a pipe dream shared between two men – Dave Colt and Clay Robinson – while spending “long hours brewing, scrubbing, and polishing . . . brewery equipment” at a previous brewing job, Sun King Brewery finally became a reality in 2009 when Colt and Robinson went all in and sold their first keg.  Since that first sale, the Sun King crew has gone on to compile a respected portfolio of handcrafted “core, seasonal and specialty beers that have been awarded multiple medals including four golds at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup competitions.”  Firmly established as “a leader in the independent craft brewing movement”, Sun King Brewery has carefully and steadily grown distribution over time to include Indiana; Illinois; Louisville, Kentucky . . . and now Florida.

“Since our inception, Sun King has been working hard to keep up with the growing demand for our beer,” says Clay Robinson, co-owner of Sun King Brewery. “Over the past year, we’ve been increasing our distribution footprint throughout the Midwest, and this spring, we sent some beer down to Florida for a festival that we participate in every year. The response to our beer was overwhelming, so we decided that the Sunshine State would be a good fit for Sun King. Our VP of Sales Joe Burns spent nearly 20 years working for a beer distributor and a brewery in Florida before joining our team, so we have the perfect person to champion our efforts in the market and work with our new partner, Cavalier Distributing.”

With the help of Cavalier Distributing of Florida, Sun King Brewery will launch distribution in Florida in July with package and draft versions of seasonal and specialty beers along with the following core offerings (descriptions sourced from the brewery’s website):

  • Osiris Pale Ale – Osiris Pale Ale is an assertive West Coast-Style Pale with a distinct citrus hop punch.  ABV – 5.6%  IBUs – 50
Pachanga Mexican-style Lager – Pachanga is a Mexican-Style Lager with a crisp malt flavor, perfect for hot days in the summer sun.  ABV – 4.2%  IBUs – 24
  • SKB IPA – SKB IPA is an India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed with American hops for long-lasting aroma and flavor.  ABV – 6.5%  IBUs – 70

Sun King and Cavalier Distributing plan to host a series of Florida launch events that will “include specialty beers like Gin Dreams, The Afterparty, Razzleblaster Busey, and The Velvet Fog, as well as seasonals GFJ IPA and Freedom Rock.”  Exact details for these events have not yet been released, but we will be sure to update this post with that info just as soon as we get it.  Stay tuned, and we hope to raise a glass with you in July as we all welcome Sun King Brewery to the Sunshine State. Prost!

TBBW Event: Sun King Brewery Tap Takeover at The Ale and The Witch

alewitchlogoOn Friday, March 10 at 3 p.m., The Ale and The Witch (111 2nd Ave NE Saint Petersburg, Florida) will welcome Sun King Brewery (Indianapolis, Indiana) to Tampa Bay Beer Week by hosting a very special Tap Takeover event.

After just a few short years since that first sale, Sun King has established a strong reputation after earning several medals at the Indiana Brewers Cup, Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup, and the brewery is now recognized as the second-largest beer brewer in the state of Indiana.

Not normally available in the state of Florida, Sun King Brewery happens to be in town visiting for Tampa Bay Beer Week (TBBW), and The Ale and The Witch is more than happy to host this respected brewery for a rare Tap Takeover on March 10.  The following seven Sun King offerings will be pouring on draft during this event:

Featured Draft Beers from Sun King Brewery

  • Cherry Busey – A Flanders-style Oud Bruin Ale produced using a complex cocktail of wild yeasts and aged in a bevy of barrels. A multitude of Montmorency cherries were lovingly liberated to give the beer its tart cherry tang.  Cherry Busey was the winner of the Bronze Medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival® in the Belgian-Style Fruit Beer Category.  ABV – 6.9%  IBUs – 23
  • Old Fashioned Elixir – This beer starts with a base of Velvet Fog Belgian Quad, a King Reserve Series offering that took the 2012 gold medal at the World Beer Cup, that is then aged in rye barrels with Balaton Cherries & orange peel for that classic cocktail creation. ABV – 11.6%
  • Osiris Pale Ale – An assertive West Coast-Style Pale with a distinct citrus hop punch.  ABV – 5.6%  IBUs – 50
  • Ring of Dingle – A rich and roasty Irish-Style Dry Stout with a clean, dry finish. The beer is named after a scenic road network in Ireland that starts and ends in the city of Dingle.  Ring of Dingle was the winner of the Silver Medal in the Classic Irish-Dry Stout Category at the 2012 World Beer Cup, and the winner of the Gold Medal in the Irish-Style Dry Stout category at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival.  ABV – 4.6%  IBUs – 34
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders – A traditional Belgian-Style Flanders Oud Bruin, Stupid Sex Flanders is fermented with wild yeasts, Lactobacillus and Brettanomyces, which impart tart cherry flavors to balance the beer’s malt sweetness.  ABV – 6.5%  IBUs – 23
  • Sunlight Cream Ale – Celebrates American brewing tradition by balancing smooth malt complexity with a crisp, clean finish.  Sunlight was the winner of the Gold Medal in the Golden or Blonde Ale category at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival®, and the Silver Medal at the 2010 World Beer Cup in the Golden or Blonde Ale category.  ABV – 5.3%  IBUs – 20
  • Whip Fight – A bourbon barrel aged Wee Heavy in which rich toffee flavor takes a Burt Lancaster-sized twist with the addition of pecan and semi-sweet chocolate.  ABV – 10.6%  IBUs – 30

The beers above will begin pouring when The Ale and The Witch opens at 3 p.m. on March 10, and they will be available until the kegs run dry or the bar closes.  Since this is a pay as you go event, no tickets are needed to enjoy these delicious brews.  We must remind you that Sun King Brewery and their beers are not normally available in Florida, so these beers will not last long.  With that in mind, go ahead and make plans now to visit The Ale and The Witch on Friday to get in on what is sure to be one hell of a TBBW Tap Takeover with Sun King Brewery.  Prost!
