ipas-for-the-holidays-15_cropDogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) has officially announced that it is getting in the holiday spirit with the Limited Release of IPAs for the Holidays, a variety 12-pack that features the brand-new All Things Yet IPA.

  • All Things Yet IPA **New for 2019** – Spiced more like a spirit than an IPA, All Things Yet borrows from our distiller’s stash, marrying the intensity of a classic American IPA with the bright and citrusy sensations of Dogfish Head Distilling Co.’s Compelling Gin . . . The result is a singular drinking experience that evokes fine gin cocktails and good times. ABV – 6.5%  IBUs – 45
  • 60 Minute IPA – A continually hopped super-fantastic East Coast IPA brewed with a slew of great Northwest hops for a powerful, but balanced, citrusy hop character.  ABV – 6.0%  IBUs – 60
  • 90 Minute IPA – A continually hopped Imperial IPA whose powerful malt backbone stands up to the extreme hopping rate for a pungent, not crushing flavor.  ABV – 9.0%  IBUs – 90
  • Sixty One – A marriage of two Dogfish Head innovations: beer-wine hybrids and continually hopped IPAs. Dogfish took its best-selling 60 Minute and added Syrah grape must to create an IPA with equal parts fruity complexity and pungent hoppiness.  ABV – 6.5%  IBUs – 60

For more information on all four beers included in the IPA for the Holidays Variety Pack, here are the descriptions that the brewery provided for each beer in its press release:

  • Viniferous IPA (available exclusively in the IPA for the Holidays Variety Pack) – Fermented with Riesling and Viognier grape must and hopped with Hallertau Blanc, Huell Melon and El Dorado to match the dry, fruity complexity of a Riesling with the hoppiness of an IPA.  ABV – 6%  IBUs – 50

Each IPA for the Holidays Variety 12-Pack contains three 12 oz. bottles of each of the four beers listed above.   The IPA for the Holidays Variety Pack also “features a special gift tag that can be personalized”, making it “a great gift for holiday parties.”

“We’ve been experimenting with continual hopping and inventive beer-wine hybrid concoctions since we first opened our doors twenty-three years ago at our brewpub in Rehoboth,” said Sam Calagione, founder and CEO of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “From angling a vibrating football game over a 5-barrel kettle with a bucket of pelletized hops hanging over it – which brought us 90 Minute Imperial IPA and paved the way for 60 Minute and 120 Minute IPA – to blending grape juice and must in the brewing process with beers like Midas Touch, Noble Rot and Red & White; we take great pride in pushing the boundaries of experimentation in brewing at Dogfish and are excited to move ahead into 2019 and beyond as we continue to stoke the flames of creativity in craft beer.”

The IPA for the Holidays Variety Pack will release in early November 2018 and hang around as long as supplies last.  You can expect to find this variety 12-pack at select craft beer-focused retailers located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution footprint.  Prost!

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Announces Limited Return of 75 Minute IPA

DFH75MinuteDogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) is officially introducing a new artist and beer lineup for its Off-Centered Art Series with the return of 75 Minute IPA in October.

75 Minute IPA – a name that references the combination of 60 Minute IPA and 90 Minute IPA, “two Dogfish innovations in continual hopping” – is a “classic” India Pale Ale brewed with “maple syrup from Sam Calagione’s (founder and CEO of Dogfish Head) family farm, . . . continually hopped during the entire boil, and then dry hopped with a slew of cascade hops.”  Fittingly coming in at 7.5% ABV and 75 IBUs, 75 Minute IPA offers a sensory experience that is “malty and earthy with citrusy-piney notes, balanced with subtle maple notes.”

This release of 75 Minute IPA will also be wearing some new label artwork now that Michael Hacker, a talented freelance artist, has taken over the brewery’s Off-Centered Art Series, “a lineup of four beers representing the creative expression that occurs at the intersection of ales and art, featuring a new illustrator each year.”  Hacker’s Off-Centered Art Series illustrations “will roll out over the next 18 months and include: 75 Minute IPA, The Perfect Disguise (8%) – an American double dry-hopped IPA disguised as a Kölsch, Dragons & YumYums (6.5%) – a lip smackingly tropical pale ale, and Punkin Ale (7%) – a full bodied brown ale brewed with real pumpkin.”

“Creative beer labels have become a fun focal point of the craft beer scene, defining brands and bringing beers to life through visuals,” said Calagione. “Since 2008, we’ve been collaborating with wildly inventive illustrators from around the world, and I couldn’t be more excited to continue the tradition with our friend, Michael Hacker, as we visually share new stories about our inventive beers.”

75 Minute IPA is hitting distribution now and is scheduled to stick around through December 2018.  You can expect to find this Limited Release available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer-friendly establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution territory.  Prost!

Fun Fact – On the label artwork: “The Off-Centered Art Series artist, Michael Hacker, created the artwork for the beers. A talented freelance illustrator, Hacker finds inspiration for his Art Series illustrations by learning the unique and compelling stories behind each beer, then bringing them to life visually in his own style. Since 75 Minute IPA is a combination of two Dogfish innovations in continual hopping – 60 Minute IPA and 90 Minute IPA – Hacker wanted to artfully portray the brewing process with Calagione as the original mad scientist of the early craft beer movement. His imaginative style incorporates a few hidden gems, including a “funny glasses” disguise that was part of the original Johnny Cask packaging artwork.”

Dogfish Head Unveils 2018 Beer Calendar, Announces Collaboration with The Flaming Lips

DFHglassDogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) released its 2018 Beer Calendar today, and with that comes the exciting news that the brewery’s next band collaboration will be Dragons & YumYums with The Flaming Lips.

Alright, we all know the drill by now.  Dogfish Head’s full 2018 Beer Calendar is posted below for you to go over at your leisure, but you best believe that we are going to first give you some details on that new collaboration with The Flaming Lips and a few other releases headed your way next year.  Let’s get to it:

  • To continue “their decades-long tradition of banding together with the uniquely epic and imaginative”, Dogfish Head has teamed up with The Flaming Lips to bring you Dragons & YumYums in Spring 2018.  This “intensely tropical yet subtlety bitter” Pale Ale is “brewed with a combination of dragonfruit, yumberry, passionfruit, pear juice and black carrot juice providing an explosion of fruit in every sip.”  Clocking at 6.5% ABV, Dragons & YumYums will be available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft from April to August.

“The Flaming Lips are one of the most innovative and collaborative bands of all time and Dogfish shares a similarly playful and adventurous point of view,” says Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “Their art is a full-on otherworldly sensory experience and we strive to create that same intense sensational experience for craft beer drinkers in the development of our liquid art.” Good tunes and great beer are at the heart of Dogfish as the brewery composed a musically inspired series of brews with artists like Miles Davis, Deltron 3030, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam and Guided by Voices. “Our brewery has been obsessed with music since the day we opened,” says Calagione. “And we have enjoyed every opportunity to weave together the art of brewing with our love of music, as often and meaningfully as we can.”

  • Speaking of musically-inspired brews, Wood-Aged Bitches Brew will return in February with Year-Round availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft.  “Brewed as an homage to Miles Davis’ 1970 landmark jazz-rock fusion record”, Wood-Aged Bitches Brew is a “bold, honey-enhanced, imperial stout” that will be boasting “a new, wood-centric spin as this version is aged and blended in giant oak and Palo Santo wood tanks resulting in a vanilla, chocolatey-licorice wood aroma with a sweet, roasty, coffee flavor finish.”
  • Lupu Luau IPA and Namaste White will both be available in cans as Year-Round offerings in 2018.  They will join Wood-Aged Bitches Brew, 60 Minute IPA90 Minute IPASeaQuench AleFlesh & Blood IPAIndian BrownPalo Santo MarronBurton Baton and Midas Touch to round off the full Year-Round lineup.
  • Mixed Media – “a rustic Saison and Farmhouse blend with a crisp and quenching finish” – will arrive in May 2018 as a new Limited Release offering.  Created to be “the ultimate beer-wine hybrid”, Mixed Media is “brewed with 51% of the fermentables coming from pils malt, malted wheat and flaked oats, and 49% coming from late harvest Viognier grape must harvested for Dogfish by friends at Alexandria Nicole Cellars in Washington.” Mixed Media will have availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft (May to September).
  • Fruit-Full Fort will also debut in 2018 as a new Limited Release.  Brewed with Pils malt, Munich malt and Malted Wheat, this special offering is then fermented “with a big ol’ bundle of fresh berry juices including boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry and elderberry.”  This results in an “ageable” Belgian-style Ale that “leaves the taste buds warm with jammy dark fruit notes and deeply complex flavors.”  Fruit-Full Fort will have availability in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft from July to September.
  • Dogfish Head will also celebrate its Off-Centered Art Series in 2018.  For this series, the brewery has “partnered with highly acclaimed artist, Marq Spusta, to create custom pieces of art for beers that brings their unique stories to life through visuals.”  Art Series Beers include Romantic Chemistry (February – May), Dragons & YumYums (April – August), Punkin Ale (August – November) and Liquid Truth Serum (November – February).  All beers in this series will have availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft.

Dogfish Head Releases IPAs for the Holidays Variety Pack

DFHIPAsHolidays2Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) recently announced the limited release of IPAs for the Holidays, a variety 12-pack that exclusively includes Sixty One.

It is well known that the holidays are a time of celebration and togetherness.  Fully committed to that spirit, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is celebrating its “commitment to continual hopping” this year by bringing four beers that feature this innovation together in one limited-edition, mixed 12-pack known simply as IPAs for the Holidays.  This Variety Pack includes the following “exclusive beer-wine hybrid” and three old favorites (3 bottles of each beer in each pack):

  • Sixty One – 12-pack EXCLUSIVE! A marriage of two Dogfish Head innovations: beer-wine hybrids and continually hopped IPAs. Dogfish took its best-selling 60 Minute and added Syrah grape must to create an IPA with equal parts fruity complexity and pungent hoppiness.
  • 60 Minute IPA – A continually hopped super-fantastic East Coast IPA brewed with a slew of great Northwest hops for a powerful, but balanced, citrusy hop character.
  • 90 Minute IPA – A continually hopped Imperial IPA whose powerful malt backbone stands up to the extreme hopping rate for a pungent, not crushing flavor.
  • Indian Brown Dark IPA – A boisterous brown ale meets well-hopped IPA is brewed with aromatic dark malt, organic brown sugar and dry-hopped liberally for your holiday-drinking pleasure.

“Our journey with IPAs and continual hopping began twenty-two years ago at our brewpub in Rehoboth, where we angled a vibrating football game over a 5-barrel kettle with a bucket of pelletized hops hanging over it,” says Sam Calagione, founder and CEO of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “This super unique method allowed us to control the rate of hops entering the boil – with one hop dose each minute – paving the way for classic Dogfish beers like 60 Minute and 90 Minute IPA and opening the door for more adventurous IPA hybrid creations like Sixty One. IPAs for the Holidays is our gift to indie craft beer friends that rally behind pushing the boundaries of traditional brewing and enjoy drinking delicious, inventive IPAs – cheers!”

IPA for Holidays is hitting shelves now and will be available as long as supplies last.  You can track this limited-edition 12-pack down at craft beer-focused retailers located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware, and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution footprint.  Prost!

Dogfish Head Launches 60 Minute IPA in cans, Announces Return of Red & White

dfh60min2In a November already filled with good news from the brewery, two more exciting pieces of information have now been released by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware):

  1. 12 oz. cans of 60 Minute IPA are beginning to hit shelves now.
  2. Red & White has officially returned for a limited time.

With the purchase of a state-of-the-art canning line from Krones, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery has now officially joined the canned craft beer movement and 60 Minute IPA will fittingly be the brewery’s first offering released in cans.  60 Minute IPA is a fan-favorite India Pale Ale that “is continuously hopped — more than 60 hop additions over a 60-minute boil.”  This beer’s popularity has played a huge role in Dogfish Head’s impressive growth over the years, so it only seems appropriate that 60 Minute IPA is given the honors to embark on the canning line’s maiden voyage.  On Monday, November 7, 12 oz. cans of 60 Minute IPA will head out into distribution “throughout the Mid-Atlantic, then into Dogfish’s full 30-state plus Washington D.C. distribution footprint in early 2017.”  Flesh & Blood IPA and SeaQuench Ale will then join the brewery’s year-round brand can lineup in early 2017 as well.

“Early on in the craft brewing renascence I was underwhelmed with the canning technology for craft beer,” said Dogfish Head founder and President Sam Calagione. “But times have changed, equipment has evolved, and we’ve designed a beautiful, state-of-the-art Krones can line that delivers the quality and consistency our consumers have come to expect from our beer.”

dfhredwhiteAs an added bonus, fans of Dogfish Head will be delighted to hear that Red & White is returning to shelves as a limited release from the brewery’s lineup of Occasional Rarities.  After attending a beer and wine dinner on the West Coast, Dogfish Head founder and President Sam Calagione was inspired to create Red & White as an offering that captures characteristics of both beer and wine.  The “White” portion of this offering refers to the lovely base of a Belgian-style Witbier brewed with coriander and orange peel. The juice of Pinot Noir grapes accounts for the “Red”, and then “a fraction of the batch is aged in one of [the brewery’s] 10,000-gallon oak tanks.”  Once completed, Red & White presents itself as a 10% ABV offering that “successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a red wine.”  This limited release offering is available now in 750ml bottles and can be found at select craft beer establishments within Dogfish Head’s distribution area.

There you have it.  Go ahead and grab a bottle or two of Red & White to share during the fast-approaching holiday season, and make a note to remind yourself that those cans of 60 Minute IPA will begin turning up in the Southeast at the start of 2017.  Prost!
