Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Unveils 2020 Beer Release Calendar

Vibrant_P-OceanBrewery release calendar season is in full effect and this week we are here to provide you with a peek at the 2020 Beer Release Calendar from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware).

Just as we do with all beer calendars around here, we have posted Dogfish Head’s 2020 Beer Release Calendar below for you to peruse at your own convenience.  With that said, Dogfish Head has quite a bit in store for 2020 and there are few items that we feel need some special attention . . . so let’s get at it:

  • Dogfish Head intends to go big in 2020. Like incredibly big.  The brewery plans to “release more than 160 unique products! From a lineup of regional and national beers and scratch-made distilled spirits, to the ever-expanding list of exclusive libations available only at [its] coastal Delaware properties, Dogfish drinkers both near and far can eagerly anticipate the new year to be chock full of off-centered goodness.” **A large amount of these numerous releases will be regional or exclusive to Dogfish Head properties, so be sure to keep an eye on the brewery’s social media accounts for release updates throughout the year.**
  • The brewery’s Year-Round lineup will see the addition of American Beauty Hazy Ripple IPA. Inspired by the Grateful Dead’s beloved “American Beauty” album, American Beauty Hazy Ripple IPA is an unfiltered India Pale Ale brewed with spelt – an ancient heirloom grain that contributes earthy notes and a natural haze – that’s then dosed with a special yeast variety to accentuate hop aromatics.  ABV – 7%  IBUs – 35
  • Dogfish Head’s Off-Centered Art Series will feature two new releases in 2020: Sun-Day-Feels (May – August), a brunch-inspired, beermosa sour brewed with puréed peaches, wine grapes and a medley of citrus fruit;  and Campfire Amplifier (November – December), a s’mores-centric milk stout brewed with marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate and a touch of smoked malt.  The Perfect Disguise Double IPA (February – April) and Punkin Ale (mid-August – November) will both return to round out the series.
  • The Occasionals Series will see the addition of Vibrant P’Ocean in February. This new offering is “a blended sour brewed in collaboration with Rodenbach Brewery that boasts tart, dry flavors of jammy berries and floral lemon.”  Vibrant P’Ocean will be available through May 2020.
  • Costumes & Karaoke – a complex oat cream ale brewed with turmeric, ginger, yellow cardamom, cinnamon and smoked star anise, and aged on Madagascar vanilla beans – will also join Dogfish Head’s Occasionals Series in November 2020.
  • With all this good news, some bad is sure to follow. In order to make room for all these new releases, brews like NamasteBurton Baton75 Minute IPA and Wood-Aged Bitches Brew will not be available in 2020. Not to worry though . . . Dogfish Head reassures that this is “more of a ‘see you later,’ rather than ‘goodbye.'”

“The announcement of our yearly lineup of releases is always one of my favorite moments of the year, especially since it includes so many creative and still-to-be invented offerings,” says Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione. “While our calendar of nationally-distributed brands is ready to roll, many of our regional and local releases remain in ideation. This allows our talented brewers and distillers, and me, the flexibility to quickly consider whims, hunches, artistic trends and the following of our collective muse to inform our creative journey.”

Those are just a few of the highlights, but there is still plenty of information waiting for you on the calendar below. Give it a look and get ready for the incredible year of off-centered brews headed your way in 2020. Prost!

  • Liquid Truth Serum IPA will continue to be a Year-Round offering in 2019 and is “coming to 12 oz. cans in addition to the already available 16 oz. cans!”
  • The Perfect Disguise – a “double dry-hopped American IPA brewed with German Chit malt, loaded with tropical flavors and a crisp Kölsch-like finish” – will kick off the 2019 Off-Centered Art Series (February – April).  Dragons & YumYums (April – August), Punkin Ale (Mid-August – November), and 75 Minute IPA (November – January 2020) will all return to round out the Art Series lineup.  All four 2019 Off-Centered Art Series offerings will feature label artwork designed by Michael Hacker.
  • Listed as an “Occasional Release”, American Beauty – a Pale Ale brewed in collaboration with the Grateful Dead – will return in 2019 with Year-Round availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles.  **You can read all about this one by clicking here.**
  • Speaking of Occasionals, Raison D’Extra (January – April) and World Wide Stout (May – August) will both be making long-awaited returns in 2019.
  • Arriving as a brand spanking new additional the brewery’s lineup of Occasionals, SuperEIGHT is Dogfish Head’s “sessionable gose brewed with eight super ingredients: prickly pear, mango, boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry, elderberry, kiwi juices, toasted quinoa and an ample addition of red Hawaiian sea salt! Okay, so technically that’s nine, but it ‘gose’ without say that there’s going to be salt.”
  • Unfortunately, sacrifices had to be made to accommodate the beers above and that means that we will not be seeing Indian BrownFestina PêchePennsylvania Tuxedo and Romantic Chemistry IPA in 2019.

That wraps up just about everything we wanted to cover, but there are still quite a few exciting brews left for you to find on the calendar below.  Soak it all in and start getting yourself prepared for all the Off-Centered goodness headed your way in 2019.  Prost!

Dogfish Head’s Punkin Ale Makes Seasonal Return

Punkin_2018-6Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) has announced that its wildly popular Punkin Ale is officially making its way back to shelves and taps now to serve as the brewery’s Fall Seasonal.

First released by Dogfish Head in 1995 and now recognized as “one of America’s best-selling pumpkin beers”, Punkin Ale is a “full-bodied Brown Ale . . . brewed with real pumpkin, brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon.” Coming in at 7% ABV, Punkin Ale is “the perfect beer to warm up with” during the fall months.

“We’ve been brewing Punkin Ale for over two decades, since long before there was a whole category of pumpkin beer, and have seen sales grow each and every year,” said Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “I think it’s because the complexity and authenticity of the recipe has remained world-class since we first brewed it, as it’s not made with pumpkin flavoring or concentrates – we use fresh, all-natural culinary ingredients, and that makes a big difference.”

Punkin Ale is rolling out now and is scheduled to hang around through November 2018.  You can expect to find this Seasonal offering available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at pumpkin beer-friendly establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution area.  Prost!

Dogfish Head Unveils 2018 Beer Calendar, Announces Collaboration with The Flaming Lips

DFHglassDogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) released its 2018 Beer Calendar today, and with that comes the exciting news that the brewery’s next band collaboration will be Dragons & YumYums with The Flaming Lips.

Alright, we all know the drill by now.  Dogfish Head’s full 2018 Beer Calendar is posted below for you to go over at your leisure, but you best believe that we are going to first give you some details on that new collaboration with The Flaming Lips and a few other releases headed your way next year.  Let’s get to it:

  • To continue “their decades-long tradition of banding together with the uniquely epic and imaginative”, Dogfish Head has teamed up with The Flaming Lips to bring you Dragons & YumYums in Spring 2018.  This “intensely tropical yet subtlety bitter” Pale Ale is “brewed with a combination of dragonfruit, yumberry, passionfruit, pear juice and black carrot juice providing an explosion of fruit in every sip.”  Clocking at 6.5% ABV, Dragons & YumYums will be available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft from April to August.

“The Flaming Lips are one of the most innovative and collaborative bands of all time and Dogfish shares a similarly playful and adventurous point of view,” says Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “Their art is a full-on otherworldly sensory experience and we strive to create that same intense sensational experience for craft beer drinkers in the development of our liquid art.” Good tunes and great beer are at the heart of Dogfish as the brewery composed a musically inspired series of brews with artists like Miles Davis, Deltron 3030, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam and Guided by Voices. “Our brewery has been obsessed with music since the day we opened,” says Calagione. “And we have enjoyed every opportunity to weave together the art of brewing with our love of music, as often and meaningfully as we can.”

  • Speaking of musically-inspired brews, Wood-Aged Bitches Brew will return in February with Year-Round availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft.  “Brewed as an homage to Miles Davis’ 1970 landmark jazz-rock fusion record”, Wood-Aged Bitches Brew is a “bold, honey-enhanced, imperial stout” that will be boasting “a new, wood-centric spin as this version is aged and blended in giant oak and Palo Santo wood tanks resulting in a vanilla, chocolatey-licorice wood aroma with a sweet, roasty, coffee flavor finish.”
  • Lupu Luau IPA and Namaste White will both be available in cans as Year-Round offerings in 2018.  They will join Wood-Aged Bitches Brew, 60 Minute IPA90 Minute IPASeaQuench AleFlesh & Blood IPAIndian BrownPalo Santo MarronBurton Baton and Midas Touch to round off the full Year-Round lineup.
  • Mixed Media – “a rustic Saison and Farmhouse blend with a crisp and quenching finish” – will arrive in May 2018 as a new Limited Release offering.  Created to be “the ultimate beer-wine hybrid”, Mixed Media is “brewed with 51% of the fermentables coming from pils malt, malted wheat and flaked oats, and 49% coming from late harvest Viognier grape must harvested for Dogfish by friends at Alexandria Nicole Cellars in Washington.” Mixed Media will have availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft (May to September).
  • Fruit-Full Fort will also debut in 2018 as a new Limited Release.  Brewed with Pils malt, Munich malt and Malted Wheat, this special offering is then fermented “with a big ol’ bundle of fresh berry juices including boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry and elderberry.”  This results in an “ageable” Belgian-style Ale that “leaves the taste buds warm with jammy dark fruit notes and deeply complex flavors.”  Fruit-Full Fort will have availability in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft from July to September.
  • Dogfish Head will also celebrate its Off-Centered Art Series in 2018.  For this series, the brewery has “partnered with highly acclaimed artist, Marq Spusta, to create custom pieces of art for beers that brings their unique stories to life through visuals.”  Art Series Beers include Romantic Chemistry (February – May), Dragons & YumYums (April – August), Punkin Ale (August – November) and Liquid Truth Serum (November – February).  All beers in this series will have availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft.

Dogfish Head Welcomes Fall by Releasing Punkin Ale and Carobock

Punkin1_editedDogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) announced today that it will enter September with the limited-time releases of Punkin Ale and Carobock.

Punkin Ale first debuted in 1995 to honor Delaware’s World Championship Punkin Chunkin event, and it has since established itself as Dogfish Head’s best-selling seasonal beer.  A great deal of its success is based on the fact that this Pumpkin Beer is brewed with “real pumpkin meat” and spiced with brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon to create an authentic pumpkin pie-like experience.  The 7% ABV Punkin Ale is available now and will most likely hang around until Thanksgiving.  You can expect to find this Seasonal brew available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution footprint.

“We’ve been brewing Punkin Ale at Dogfish for over two decades, since long before there was a whole category of pumpkin beer, and have seen sales grow each and every year,” said Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “I think it’s because the complexity and authenticity of the recipe has remained world-class since we first brewed it as it’s not made with pumpkin flavoring or concentrates – we use fresh all-natural ingredients and that makes a big difference.

If Pumpkin Beers do not happen to be your thing, Dogfish Head has you covered with the limited release of Carobock.  This Bavarian-style Weizenbock (8% ABV) is “brewed with malted wheat, dark Munich malt and chocolate wheat and is fermented with traditional weizen yeast to boost the banana and spice notes that typify the style.” Since the brewers at Dogfish Head wanted this beer to be “a play on a delicious chocolate covered banana”, they also employed the use of “toasted carob pods to provide intense, earthy chocolate flavors and rounded out the brew by aging it on Madagascar vanilla beans.”  Carobock will officially release on September 1 as a draft-only, Limited Release offering.  Look for this one to be pouring at select craft beer spots located within Dogfish Head’s distribution area.

Both Punkin Ale and Carobock are only available for a limited time, so be sure to give these tasty brews a try at some point this fall.  Prost!
