Dogfish Head Releases Oak-Aged Siracusa Nera in Bottles

siracusa-nera-6On November 3, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) will officially release Oak-Aged Siracusa Nera Russian Imperial Stout in bottles for the first time.

Created as an experimental beer that has both American and Italian inspiration, Oak-Aged Siracusa Nera is an “innovative beer-wine hybrid [that] marries a dry-roasted Imperial Stout with a jammy wine.” The brewers at Dogfish Head pull this off by “beginning with roasty malts that give notes of coffee and dark chocolate in the aroma.”  Syrah grape must is then added to impart “multifaceted flavors of plums and cherries.”  Finally, the beer is aged on American oak to round everything off with “hints of light toasty vanilla.”  This all results in a 10% ABV Oak-Aged Siracusa Nera that is absolutely laden with bold and beautiful complexities.

This delicious stout captures the Dogfish spirit of beer-wine interaction and innovation which we’ve been experimenting with for over two decades with fusions like Midas Touch, Sixty One and Rasion D’tre,” says Sam Calagione, founder and CEO of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery.  “A Russian Imperial Stout is a style we’ve been excited about recreating with a beer-wine hybrid twist.  We’re super happy with the way Siracusa drinks like a roasty, punchy, pitted-fruit wine but with a toasted oak finish. And props to our brewer coworker Amanda for leading on this recipe innovation.”

Oak-Aged Siracusa Nera officially releases on November 3 and will have limited availability in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft.  You can find this on shelves and taps at select craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution footprint.  Prost!

A side note for the hopheads out there120 Minute Imperial IPA will also see a limited release this month.  Look for it to be on shelves and taps alongside Oak-Aged Siracusa Nera beginning on November 10, 2017.

woolrich-photo-shoot-oct-2016-31Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) recently announced that it has teamed up once again with their friends at Woolrich for the limited release of Pennsylvania Tuxedo Pale Ale.

Brewed as a special collaboration between Dogfish Head and family-run outdoor clothing company Woolrich, Pennsylvania Tuxedo is a spruce tip infused American Pale Ale that “pays homage to the red and black flannel-suited hunters and gatherers who dwell deep in the backcountry of the wintertime-frigid, north-central PA.” The spruce tips, sourced from the “the forests outside the Woolrich factory”, provide “resinous conifer notes” that work beautifully alongside Pennsylvania Tuxedo’s “grassy citrus” hop notes and “dry, yet doughy malt backbone.”

“Pennsylvania Tuxedo smells like Paul Bunyan’s cologne and tastes like tongue-kissing Mother Nature, and it’s a labor of love that we hope you’ll share with friends this winter.”

Dogfish Head Introduces Craft Beer Fans to Liquid Truth Serum

liquid-truth-serum-5Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) recently announced that Liquid Truth Serum IPA is hitting shelves and taps now as the brewery’s latest Limited Release offering.

Developed to be the newest addition to Dogfish Head’s family of innovative, off-centered India Pale Ales, Liquid Truth Serum IPA has been created with a “unique process [that] involves pelletized, powdered, leaf and liquefied hops that are all added post boil creating an intensely aromatic ale with soft, citrusy fruit hop notes.”  Even though 100% of these various forms of hops were added post boil, Liquid Truth Serum was still able to pick up over 60 IBUs.  This all results in a 6.8% ABV, “hazy and golden-orange” India Pale Ale that is “super-aromatic and juicy-hoppy without being deceptively bitter.”

MYTH: Beers can only pick up IBUs by adding hops during the boil.

TRUTH: Here is a 100% post-boil hop oriented IPA that picks up over 60 IBUs in process.

Liquid Truth Serum IPA is rolling out now and will be available through December 2017.  You can find this Limited Release offering in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware, and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution network.  Prost!

The hop-forward India Pale Ale is part of the annual Art Series beer line up where the brewery collaborates with artists to create custom pieces of artwork for their seasonal ales. The label features Spusta’s version of a traveling medicine show unveiling the all-seeing “eye of truth” exposing the myth that all hops need to be added in the boil.”

Dogfish Head Welcomes Fall by Releasing Punkin Ale and Carobock

Punkin1_editedDogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) announced today that it will enter September with the limited-time releases of Punkin Ale and Carobock.

Punkin Ale first debuted in 1995 to honor Delaware’s World Championship Punkin Chunkin event, and it has since established itself as Dogfish Head’s best-selling seasonal beer.  A great deal of its success is based on the fact that this Pumpkin Beer is brewed with “real pumpkin meat” and spiced with brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon to create an authentic pumpkin pie-like experience.  The 7% ABV Punkin Ale is available now and will most likely hang around until Thanksgiving.  You can expect to find this Seasonal brew available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution footprint.

“We’ve been brewing Punkin Ale at Dogfish for over two decades, since long before there was a whole category of pumpkin beer, and have seen sales grow each and every year,” said Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “I think it’s because the complexity and authenticity of the recipe has remained world-class since we first brewed it as it’s not made with pumpkin flavoring or concentrates – we use fresh all-natural ingredients and that makes a big difference.

If Pumpkin Beers do not happen to be your thing, Dogfish Head has you covered with the limited release of Carobock.  This Bavarian-style Weizenbock (8% ABV) is “brewed with malted wheat, dark Munich malt and chocolate wheat and is fermented with traditional weizen yeast to boost the banana and spice notes that typify the style.” Since the brewers at Dogfish Head wanted this beer to be “a play on a delicious chocolate covered banana”, they also employed the use of “toasted carob pods to provide intense, earthy chocolate flavors and rounded out the brew by aging it on Madagascar vanilla beans.”  Carobock will officially release on September 1 as a draft-only, Limited Release offering.  Look for this one to be pouring at select craft beer spots located within Dogfish Head’s distribution area.

Both Punkin Ale and Carobock are only available for a limited time, so be sure to give these tasty brews a try at some point this fall.  Prost!

Dogfish Head Introduces Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout

oavwws-ingredients-9Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) has officially announced the release of Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout as the brewery’s newest Limited Release offering.

The newly released Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout arrives as a revamped take on the fan-favorite World Wide Stout.  Starting with the original, 18-year-old recipe that boasts “a ridiculous amount of barley”, the brewers at Dogfish Head then added a fresh layer of complexity by aging the Stout in “real 10,000 gallon oak tanks with heaps of [whole Madagascar] vanilla beans.”  This treatment produces a 16% ABV Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout that possesses “a wonderfully authentic tapestry of roasted malty, toasted vanilla flavors with subtle coffee notes.”

“When we first began brewing World Wide Stout at our brewpub back in the winter of 1999, the first batch sold out in less than a week – and nearly 18 years later the response has continued to be amazing,” said Sam Calagione, founder and CEO of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “At Dogfish, our raison d’être is to expand the boundaries of the typical beer experience by creating innovative beers made from fresh ingredients, so we decided to take a new spin on our popular stout by adding tons of whole Madagascar vanilla beans to the recipe. The addition of the beans enhances the coffee and chocolatey notes in the beer which we think our fans will enjoy.”

Today’s press release from the brewery declares that Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout has officially shipped out to distributors.  You can expect to find this Limited Release brew available in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at select craft beer establishments located in Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution network (unfortunately, this does not include Alabama and any other state where this Stout exceeds ABV restrictions).  Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout will not last long once it hits shelves, so be sure to keep a keen eye out for this brew while out on your next beer run.  Prost!

With aging, you’ll find the heat of the booze fades into the background and the port notes and vanilla roastiness takes over,’ said Calagione. ‘Grab a few bottles, enjoy one now and lay the others down for a few years.'”

Dogfish Head Goes Tropical with Release of Lupu-Luau IPA

lupu-luau-ingredients-4Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) recently announced the release of Lupu-Luau IPA as the brewery’s latest ode to summer.

When it comes to figuring out the story behind Lupu-Luau IPA, you can find all the answers in its name:

  • “Lupu” – an abbreviated take on Lupulin, the hop flower gland containing essential oils
  • “Luau” – a reference to the beer’s tropical hop notes and coconut-centric nature that translates as “a tropical party in your mouth”

Brewed with toasted coconut, experimental hops and dehydrated coconut water, this coconut-forward India Pale Ale displays aromatics of “tropical fruit, pineapple and [citrus]” while “coconut and woodsy notes” carry the flavor profile.  At 7.3% ABV and 45 IBUs, Lupu-Luau IPA comes together to be a unique but spot-on representation of what summer is all about.

“We worked hard to secure the majority of the full domestic yield of this experimental hop crop for years to come and Dogfish is currently the only brewery contracted to purchase it,” says Sam Calagione, founder and CEO of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “We use dehydrated coconut water that contains delicious natural sugars and flaked toasted coconut as centerpieces of the beer – ingredients that pay homage to Coco Loco, a coconut blonde brewpub exclusive we brewed back in 2011 and an early example of tropical fruit IPA innovation from Dogfish.”

Lupu-Luau IPA is available now and will be hanging out through the summer months.  You can track this Seasonal brew down in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution area.  Prost!

Dogfish Head Sends Romantic Chemistry IPA and Festina Pêche Out for the Summer

rom-chem-2017-1Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) has officially announced the release of Romantic Chemistry IPA and Festina Pêche Neo-Berliner Weisse as two thirst-quenching seasonals that craft beer fans can enjoy all summer long.

To satisfy any hop hankerings you may encounter this summer, Dogfish Head has you covered with the Seasonal release of Romantic Chemistry IPA.  This “serious” American India Pale Ale (7.2% ABV and 40 IBUs) gets its amplified level of refreshment thanks to being “brewed with an intermingling of mangos, apricots, hops, ginger, and a beautiful essential oil called myrcene which overlaps with all the components.”  After a dry-hopping with three hop varieties, the beer rounds off with “a tropical fruit aroma and a hop-forward finish.”  Romantic Chemistry is available now and will be hanging around through the month of August.  You can find this Seasonal brew available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer establishments in Alabama, Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution footprint.

“We’ve been experimenting with fruit and citrus IPAs since 1996 when we released Aprihop, an IPA brewed with apricots,” says Sam Calagione, founder and CEO of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “Fruit IPAs continue to be the biggest breakout craft beer style in America and we’re proud of the innovative, fruit-centric IPAs we have available now in both Romantic Chemistry in bottles and Flesh & Blood in cans.”

festina-peche-2017-3First brewed back in 2007, Festina Pêche has certainly earned its craft beer street cred by being one of the earliest widely-available American representations of the Berliner Weisse style.  Lovingly dubbed “a tart and refreshing neo-Berliner Weisse,” Dogfish Head’s take on the style is “brewed to deliver a green apple-like tartness flavor balanced with sweet peachy goodness.”  Clocking in just 4.5% ABV and 8 IBUs, this pale straw-colored ale “is unique in that the fruit complexity is woven into the aroma and taste through the natural fermentation of the peach sugars.”  Officially releasing on May 7, Festina Pêche will be available in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft through August.  Like Romantic Chemistry IPAFestina Pêche will also be available at craft beer focused restaurants, bars and retailers located within Dogfish Head’s distribution network.

“We started brewing Festina Peche back in 2007 and a full decade later, it continues to be one of our top selling, most requested beers by our fans,” says Calagione. “When you relax, unwind and slow down on the beach with loved ones this summer, you should do so deliberately, without haste, and with a Festina Peche in your hand.”

Romantic Chemistry IPA and Festina Pêche Neo-Berliner Weisse will only be available during the summer months, so just keep these two options in mind when you are on the hunt for refreshing brews capable of beating back the inevitable heat headed your way.  Prost!

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA Makes a Springtime Appearance

120Min_B_0_0_editedDogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) has officially announced that 120 Minute IPA is returning for a limited release beginning on April 10.

Fittingly referred to as the “Holy Grail for Hopheads”, 120 Minute IPA gets its name and distinction by being “continuously hopped with more than one-hundred twenty hop additions over a one-hundred twenty minute boil.” This lengthy exposure to high-alpha American hops produces a “gigantic, candy-like India Pale Ale [that] is copper in color with sweet-citrus, piney and floral aromas.”  Weighing in at a massive 15-20% ABV and 120 IBUs, 120 Minute IPA is a true sipper that “is an ideal candidate for sharing and is best served cool, not cold.”

“Like Fort and World Wide Stout, 120 Minute IPA gets even more special with age,” says Sam Calagione, founder and CEO of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery.  “I recommend buying a couple bottles, drink one fresh, and lay one down for a year or two – you’ll discover that time brings forward delicious, fruity marmalade and sherry notes in the beer.”

120 Minute IPA is an incredibly limited release that will begin rolling out to distribution on Monday, April 10.  This offering will be available in 12 oz. bottles and on draft at select craft beer establishments in Florida, Delaware and throughout the rest of Dogfish Head’s distribution area (**where legal of course**).  This release marks the first time that 120 Minute IPA will be available in “Minnesota, Missouri, South Carolina and New Mexico. dfhbtdmt17bottleAs a celebration of analog music and off-centered beer, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) has officially announced the limited release of Beer To Drink Music To ’17 Tropical Blonde.

To properly commemorate the 10th anniversary of Record Store Day, Dogfish Head is treating craft beer and music fans to the “melodic inspired” Beer To Drink Music To ’17, a tropical American Blonde Ale brewed with hibiscus flowers and kiwi juice.  This harmonious combination creates a pinkish-red brew that boasts “strong citrus fruit aromas, hints of grapefruit and floral notes, with a crisp, dry finish.”

Since this offering is meant to be enjoyed with music, Dogfish Head has reunited with Sony Music Legacy Recordings to compile Music To Drink Beer To, Vol. 3 – tracklist coming soon –  as the perfect complement to this beer.  This vinyl compilation will be released at participating stores on Record Store Day – April 22, 2017.

“I fell in love with music at the same time I fell in love with beer, and in an increasingly digital age, vinyl records provide a deep, tangible connection to music that reverberates with craft beer fans,” says Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head founder and president.  Good tunes and great beer are at the heart of Dogfish as Sam composed a musically inspired series of brews with artists like Miles Davis, Deltron 3030, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam and Guided by Voices.  “Our brewery has been obsessed with music since the day we opened,” says Calagione.   “And we have enjoyed every opportunity to weave together the art of brewing with our love of music, as often and meaningfully as we can.”

Beyond Beer To Drink Music To ’17 Tropical Blonde, Dogfish Head will be partnering once again with Crosley Radio – architect of the iconic turntable – to promote Record Store Day with a 29-city tour.  The “Dogfish Head x Crosley Cruiser” will be a two-month long tour of “independent record stores and beer bars, sharing the love of vinyl, analog music and delicious craft brews.”  This nomadic event will begin in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, March 3, and ends in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Record Store Day, Saturday, April 22.  The full lineup of cities is as follows: Louisville, Kentucky;  Nashville, Tennessee; Indianapolis, Indiana;  Chicago, Illinois; Madison, Wisconsin; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Detroit, Michigan; Columbus, Ohio; Cincinnati, Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; State College, Pennsylvania; Buffalo, New York; Syracuse, New York; Wakefield, Rhode Island; Somerville, Massachusetts;  Allston, Massachusetts; Boston, Massachusetts; New York, New York; Mamaroneck, New York; Long Island City, New York; Washington, D.C.; Fairfax, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland; Milton, Delaware; Newark, Delaware; Wilmington, Delaware; Westmont, New Jersey; Jersey City, New Jersey; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood IPA Now in Cans

fleshbloodcansDogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) has announced that Flesh & Blood IPA has officially returned as the brewery’s newest year-round and canned offering.

After its initial release last year as a limited offering, it became quite clear to the folks at Dogfish Head that India Pale Ale fans simply could not get enough of Flesh & Blood IPA.  This should have come as no surprise considering the brewery stuck to their commitment of using nothing but “simple, pure unadulterated fruit” by brewing this beer “with a ton of real citrus including lemon flesh and blood orange juice—hence the name—plus orange and lemon peel.”  Add Warrior and Centennial hops to the mix, and Flesh & Blood comes together as an “honest to goodness India Pale Ale” that is “perfectly balanced, yet explosive and zestily refreshing.”

“We’ve been experimenting with fruit and citrus IPA’s since 1996 when we released Aprihop, an IPA brewed with apricots,” says Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head founder and CEO. “We think the fruit IPA category will surge the fastest in 2017 and we are proud of Dogfish Head’s innovator position in this realm.”

After listening to their fans and paying attention to current craft beer trends, Dogfish Head has now added Flesh & Blood IPA to their portfolio of Year-Round brews as of January 16, 2017.  This offering is available now on draft and in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans – no longer packaged in bottles – at craft beer establishments in Florida and throughout the rest of the brewery’s distribution area.  Get you some.  Prost!
