GF19_Products_Celtic2xc2Green Flash Brewing Company (San Diego, California) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Celtic Sun IPA, a special collaboration project with Jameson Irish Whiskey (Dublin, Ireland), on July 1.

gf19_primarylogo_rgbGreen Flash Brewing Company (San Diego, California) has officially announced that it is entering the new year with a new logo identity, refreshed packaging, and a new beer lineup featuring the return of its original 7.0% ABV West Coast IPA.

In order to “reconnect Green Flash with its San Diego origins”, the brewery has decided to roll out a new logo in 2019 alongside updated packaging featuring “custom artwork by illustrator Matthew Jay Fleming, whose illustrations depict the vibrant San Diego lifestyle.”  To further highlight the brewery’s mission and the inspiration behind its beers, Green Flash has also unveiled a “Toast from the Coast” manifesto that tells the “inspirational story behind the brand’s name and describes why a Green Flash beer is a perfect end to an extraordinary day and the start of an epic night on the horizon.”

Green Flash’s iconic West Coast IPA – yes, it is the OG version – has officially returned in 2019 to re-establish the brewery’s focus on its innovative lineup of Core beers that also includes Tropical DNA (hazy IPA), Soul Style IPA, and GFB Blonde Ale.  All Core offerings will be available in 12 oz. cans – in addition to 12 oz. bottles – “to meet the growing demand for cans by consumers.”  In addition to these Core Beers, a “strong” lineup of rotating Special Release offerings will turn up throughout the year to round out Green Flash’s 2019 portfolio.

“Our new visual identity represents a dramatic shift for the Green Flash brand and reinforces its origin as one of the original San Diego craft beers,” states Green Flash Brewing Co. VP of Marketing Ben Widseth. “Regarding West Coast IPA, over the years we have been listening to our loyal drinkers who reminisced about the original recipe. So we’re excited to bring it back for them to enjoy, along with a portfolio of other fan favorites and new beer releases to come.”

New Realm Brewing Company to Open Second Location in Virginia Beach

radegastNew Realm Brewing Company (Atlanta, Georgia) has officially announced that it will open a second brewery and taproom in the facility that formerly served as the Virginia Beach location of Green Flash Brewing Co.

A little over a week ago, news broke that New Realm Brewing – the Southeast-based craft brewery co-founded by Carey Falcone, Bob Powers and Mitch Steele – had acquired the brewing equipment housed within Green Flash Brewing Co.’s recently shuttered Virginia Beach location.  Since the time of that news, many rumors have been swirling that New Realm – despite just launching operations in Atlanta in January of this year – was also considering assuming control of the facility so that they could open a second brewery and taproom.  Those rumors have now been confirmed as true with the announcement that “New Realm has partnered with The Miller Group to lease the 58,000 square-foot facility which formerly housed the Green Flash Brewing Company” in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  The acquisition of this new equipment and facility will allow New Realm to expand production up to “40,000 barrels annually.”

“As we looked at ways to serve our growing base of New Realm fans, it was important to us that we remain a local brewer in the Southeast, expand capacity, increase innovation and stay true to our core values,” said Carey Falcone, CEO and co-founder of New Realm Brewing. “When the opportunity came up to partner with The Miller Group to lease the Virginia Beach facility, purchase newer, high-quality brewing equipment at a great value and create jobs in Virginia Beach, we knew we needed to seize it.”

“New Realm is proud to become part of the Virginia Beach community as we continue to serve our fans in Atlanta. We could not ask for better local partners than Jerry Miller and The Miller Group. We look forward to benefiting from their experience, support and advocacy as we serve the Virginia Beach community for many years to come.”

Jerry Miller, CEO and founder of The Miller Group, said, “We are thrilled to welcome New Realm to Virginia Beach. With the backing of a strong management team, world-class facility and premier location, New Realm’s brewery and taproom will support job creation and draw visitors to Virginia Beach year-round.”

New Realm plans to open its Virginia Beach brewery and taproom – located at 1209 Craft Lane, Virginia Beach, Virginia – just as soon as “it receives all applicable licenses and permits required for operation.”  Once this facility is operational and staffed, craft beer fans can expect an experience that features “a tasting room with a wide variety of beers on tap, an outdoor beer garden, and private event space.”

Since this situation is still developing, we will be sure to provide you with opening dates and any other updates just as soon as they surface.  Stay tuned.  Prost!

New Realm Brewing Company Acquires Equipment from Former Green Flash Facility

radegastNew Realm Brewing Company (Atlanta, Georgia) sent out a press release today to confirm that it won a bid to purchase the brewing equipment located at the former Green Flash Brewing Co. facility in Virginia Beach.

After just opening its doors in January of this year, New Realm Brewing Company is set to substantially increase its brewing capacity now that it has acquired the brewing equipment housed within Green Flash Brewing Co.’s abruptly shuttered Virginia Beach location.  New Realm is actively “exploring options for the location of the equipment and a potential new taproom.”

For more information on this acquisition, here are the official statements from New Realm’s founders – Carey Falcone, Bob Powers and Mitch Steele:

“This equipment presents an incredible opportunity to expand our capacity in a meaningful way while staying committed to our roots,” said Carey Falcone, CEO and co-founder of New Realm Brewing. “New Realm is proud to be part of the Atlanta community and we are enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve more New Realm fans.”

“We continue to invest in our Beltline brewery and restaurant with additional team members and new 60-bbl expansion tanks. But the reality is that, thanks to the incredible support of New Realm’s patrons and fans in Atlanta, we are capacity and space constrained in our current location,” said Mitch Steele, Brewmaster and co-founder of New Realm Brewing. “We are excited about the ways this new equipment and capacity will enable us to deliver the same high-quality beers while increasing our ability to innovate and create new beers for local fans.”

“This equipment acquisition is a unique opportunity to meet growing demand, while continuing to focus on quality and consistency. This new equipment will allow our team to brew even more of the beer that we feel passionate about,” said Chief Commercial Officer and co-founder, Bob Powers.

New Realm Brewing Company has not yet officially named a destination for this new equipment or a location for that “potential new taproom.”  This story is still developing, and we will be sure to provide you with any and all updates just as soon as they surface.  Stay tuned.  Prost!

Green Flash Hop Head Red Makes Limited Return

hopheadredpourshotGreen Flash Brewing Co. (San Diego, California) recently announced that it is bringing back its classic Hop Head Red for a limited time, draft-only release.

The story of Hop Head Red began when it first debuted for Green Flash back in 2006, but its legend quickly grew as it “went on to win over a dozen awards including two silvers and a bronze at the Great American Beer Festival (2007, 2009, 2012 – in the Amber Ale category).”  Sadly, Hop Head Red’s quality and achievements could not save it as the craft beer community evolved, and Green Flash had to make the difficult decision to retire the beer in 2014.  Despite its absence, many Green Flash fans (myself included) clung to the memory of Hop Head Red and constantly requested a triumphant return for the beer.  The brewery has heard these calls and has decided to treat us all to a little Hop Head Red revival.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this beer, Hop Head Red is a glorious “union of Red Ale and resinous IPA.”  With “mountains of Nugget and Amarillo hops” piled upon “a rich, caramel malt base”, this 6.5% ABV Red IPA absolutely “[overtakes] the senses with an alluring floral hop aroma.”

Hop Head Red will officially return in late-October with availability on draft only.  You can expect to find this Limited offering on tap at craft beer establishments in Alabama, Florida, California, Virginia, and throughout the rest of Green Flash’s nationwide distribution network.  Prost!

We may not have a calendar for this one, but we definitely have a ton of information to pass along concerning Green Flash Brewing’s plans for 2017.  With that said, let’s not waste any time and jump right in:

  • Green Flash Brewing Co. is now producing and shipping beers from both the San Diego and Virginia Beach breweries.
  • The brewery will round out its portfolio with the introduction of GFB Blonde Ale in 2017. With a “fruity hop-character and a nice malty flavor,” GFB has been meticulously crafted to be an “interesting and drinkable Blonde Ale” that still has the soul of a Green Flash brew. GFB Blonde Ale will initially launch on draft in January and packaging in 12 oz. cans will follow in spring.  The brewery plans to eventually bottle this offering in 2018.  ABV – 4.8%
  • Palate Wrecker will make its triumphant return as a Limited Release in February.  Due to its complex brewing process, this incredibly hoppy Imperial India Pale Ale was temporarily discontinued in 2016 to free up some of the brewing schedule to introduce several new offerings.  With both breweries now fully operational, Palate Wrecker will be available for a limited time in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft.  ABV – 9.5%
  • All of the following beers will be returning in 2017 (click any beer’s name for a direct link to more info): West Coast IPA, Soul Style IPA (available in cans and bottles), Tangerine Soul Style IPA, Passion Fruit Kicker Wheat Ale, Cosmic Ristretto Baltic Porter with Espresso, Dia de los Serranos Double Stout with Serrano Chiles, Imperial IPA, & Le Freak Belgian Style Imperial IPA, as well as year round can releases – Jibe Session IPA & Sea to Sea Zwickel Lager.
  • The 2017 Cellar 3 lineup of rare and barrel-aged beers will include a dozen new and returning products.  These offerings are available nationally on a limited-release basis.

As they do every year, it appears that Green Flash Brewing is hooking us all up with a great assortment of brews to enjoy over the next 12 months.  Drink up, enjoy and stay tuned for future posts concerning any of the Green Flash Brewing/Cellar 3 Special Releases that are bound to surface during 2017.  Prost!
