Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales Releases New Collaboration Beer with Gigantic Brewing Company

JPPhuketJolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales (Dexter, Michigan) has officially announced the release of Phuket; It’s Not That Far from Laos, a Sour Fruit Saison brewed in collaboration with Gigantic Brewing Company (Portland, Oregon).

The inspiration to create Phuket; It’s Not That Far from Laos came after the masterminds at Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales and Gigantic Brewing Company had a little meeting in Hawaii last summer.  After that meeting, Ron Jefferies – Brewmaster at Jolly Pumpkin – headed out to Gigantic Brewing’s facility in Portland to develop a recipe and brew a beer.  “That beer, Gigantic’s side of the collaboration, is still resting on oak”, but Ron flew back to Michigan to “brew the same recipe with the Jolly Pumpkin funk.”

Phuket; It’s Not That Far from Laos is a “hoppy, lime saison” that rocks a foundation built upon “aromas of lime, unripe pear, and the classic pineapple tinted notes of Jolly Pumpkin funk.”  Dosed with “Cascade, Chinook, and Jarrylo hops, as well as Lime Peel,” Phuket then takes on “flavors of citrus, pine, and white grape that linger quietly before finishing slightly bitter with mild tartness.”  To mix things up a bit, jasmine rice and palm sugar was incorporated into the mash to keep the mouthfeel “light, lively, and quite dry.”  Finally, Phuket; It’s Not That Far from Laos received its finishing touches as it was left to rest on oak for 8 months.

Phuket; It’s Not That Far from Laos is making its way into the Jolly Pumpkin network now, and will be around while supplies last.  This limited release offering will be available in 750ml bottles and on draft at select craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Michigan and throughout the rest of Jolly Pumpkin’s distribution area.  Prost!

Clementina Saison Returns as Limited Release from Jolly Pumpkin

clementinajpbottleJolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales (Dexter, Michigan) recently announced that Clementina Saison will soon be sent out to distribution as the brewery’s latest Limited Release offering.

In an effort to prove that “seasons are just a state of mind,” Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales has brewed and bottled Clementina Saison to act as a soothing “ray of sunshine” that will lead us out of the winter months.  To ensure that this Saison is incredibly bright and effervescent, the brewers incorporated additions of “yuzu and lime peel, pink Himalayan salt, coriander and clementine juice” into its recipe.  The citrus forward character of Clementina is supported by a base of oak and wheat to “provide a light, bready body rounded by the refreshing blend of spices.”  Since nearly all Jolly Pumpkin offerings undergo a meticulously planned aging process, we will turn it over to the brewery for the full rundown on Clementina’s treatment:

“This batch of Clementina is composed of three 10 barrel batches that were aged in both a 20-barrel oak foeder as well as several toasted oak barrels. Brewed in December and January last winter, Clementina waited in oak for nearly the entire length of 2016, soaking up the warmth and excitement of last summer. It has kept that feeling close for us just waiting for the perfect damp and grey week of February to stave off the mid-winter blues.”

Clementina Saison will first hit shelves and taps at Jolly Pumpkin brewery and taproom locations in Dexter, Ann Arbor, Detroit and Traverse City.  Shortly thereafter, 750ml bottles of this Limited Release will then see limited distribution in Florida, Texas, New York, Missouri, and California.  This offering will most assuredly vanish as quickly as it arrives, so make the necessary plans now to secure your bottle of Clementina Saison for a timely reprieve from the harsh cold of winter.  Prost!

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales to Once Again Release Sobrehumano Palena`ole

jpsobrehumano_editedJolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales (Dexter, Michigan) has proudly announced that Sobrehumano Palena`ole will officially return as a limited release beginning on Monday, February 6.

Originally released in the summer of 2012 as a collaboration beer with Maui Brewing Co. (Kihei, Hawaii), Sobrehumano Palena`ole quickly became an instant classic within the craft beer community and has since been one of Jolly Pumpkin’s “most asked about beers.”  The reason behind this beer’s success can be found in its recipe and inspiration:

“Sobrehumano Palena`ole bridges the divide between Dexter and Maui, 4391 miles to be exact, combining fruit from each region, cherries and passion fruit, in a 6% ABV red ale before aging in oak for ten months.”

Although Sobrehumano Palena`ole retains the soul of its original release, this batch was aged in a slightly different manner.  Due to the limitations of their previous facility, Jolly Pumpkin was forced to create the 2012 release in “10 barrel batches followed by rigorous blending.”  This time around, their brewers were able to employ the use of “foeder aging of larger batches, allowing the return of this long gone favorite.”

Sobrehumano Palena`ole is available now at all Jolly Pumpkin locations.  750ml bottles of this limited release will then enter distribution beginning on February 6.  You can expect to find this special offering available at select craft beer establishments in Alabama, Florida, and “throughout the entire Jolly Pumpkin network, from Michigan to Maui.”  If you are interested in securing a bottle of Sobrehumano Palena`ole, be sure to keep a watchful eye on your area bottle shops at the beginning of February because this beer will most certainly move with a quickness once released.  Prost!
