Jolly Pumpkin Begins Packaging Oro De Calabaza in Cans

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales (Ann Arbor, Michigan) has officially announced that it will begin canning Oro de Calabaza, the brewery’s most award-winning beer, in early January 2021.

Brewed in the “Franco-Belgian tradition of strong golden ales,” Oro de Calabaza is a Wild Belgian-style Golden Ale that is aged for 6 to 9 months in large oak casks. Coming in at 8% ABV, Oro de Calabaza is “spicy and peppery with a gentle hop bouquet and the beguiling nuance and influence of wild yeast.”

“Oro is our flagship beer! It has won more awards, and been in more publications, and received more recognition than any other beer we’ve made. It is my personal favorite! We are so proud to be able to release it in cans” shares North United Brewing Company’s CEO Tony Grant.

Formerly known as Noel de Calabaza, Noel is a holiday-inspired American Wild Ale that features “Jolly Pumpkin’s festive funk, complimented by notes of candied pecans, truffles, sugar plums, and spiced fruitcake.” Coming in at 9% ABV, Noel is a “true holiday flavor mashup . . . Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales Set to Release Three Wild Ales in Cans

unnamed (50)Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales (Dexter, Michigan) has officially announced that three of its Wild Ales – longstanding Year-Round favorites Bam Bière and Calabaza Blanca and the first release in a new Seasonal series of  fruited Saisons, Hyrrokkin – will be available for the first time in 16 oz. cans beginning in April 2020.

Now that Jolly Pumpkin has a new canning line in place for its Wild Ales program, the brewery is excited to break in this new piece of equipment with the release of the following three offerings in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans (descriptions sourced directly from the brewery’s newsletter):

  • Bam Bière | Year-Round – A delicious, low-calorie, farmhouse ale named for our Jack Russell, who struck by a car, bounced back in fine tenacious Jack Russell fashion. This farmhouse ale is brewed for those of us who knocked down, have picked up, dusted off, and carried on undaunted.
    Golden, naturally cloudy, CAN-conditioned, and dry-hopped for a tasty and tart balance of spicy malts, hops, and yeast.

Jolly Pumpkin Strays from the Sour, Releases All the Trees IPA

Arriving as the fourth release in Jolly Pumpkin’s Non-Sour Collective, All the Trees is a Hazy India Pale Ale that “[features] a double dry hop of Chinook, Simcoe, and Vanguard” hops. Boasting a “piney aroma . . . along with a hint of grapefruit, melon, and nutmeg spice,” All the Trees (7.2% ABV, 63 IBUs) comes together to offer a flavor profile that is “a perfect harmony of orange creamsicles, bubblegum, and melon.”

Arriving as the latest release in Jolly Pumpkin’s Non-Sour Collective and the brewery’s “first non-sour . . . beer to be sold outside the brewery’s pubs”, Rugged Lands is a “lush, hop forward” India Pale Ale “brewed with a variety of both Northwest and local Michigan grown hops.”  Coming in at 7.3% ABV and 65 IBUs, Rugged Lands IPA promises to offer an experience filled with “tropical notes of tangerines, oranges, guavas, peaches and nectarines.”

Jolly Pumpkin founder and brew master, Ron Jeffries shares why he chose to brew a non-sour IPA. “IPAs are great, one of my favorite styles. Developed to be a Bam variant that could serve as “the perfect beer to pair with a delicious slice of pizza” at The Masonry or anywhere, Turbo Bam is a Farmhouse Saison brewed with “a hefty portion of rye” that offers a spicy foundation for the added “coriander and Szechuan peppercorns to build upon.”  Amarillo hops and lemon peel then join Bam Bière’s normal hop bill of Cascade and Crystal hops to shift Turbo Bam (4.9% ABV) “into high gear with blasts of lemon, pineapple and mango.”

When Costa from La Sirène Brewing turned up at the brewery for a little collaboration session, the folks at Jolly Pumpkin put his talents as a self-proclaimed “Farmhouse Free Styler” to work in the creation of Costa dei Villa.  Brewed with four different hop varieties, this Sour Hoppy Session Saison boasts “a light tart body, . . . mild bitterness, . . . aromas of citrus, kumquat and soft wheat” and a flavor profile that offers “notes of grapefruit pith, a touch of Meyer lemon, and Jolly funk.”  With a reduced ABV of 4.6%, the “extremely quaffable” Costa dei Villa promises to be “the perfect beer for gathering the cobbers and sparking up the barbie!”

Just as you would expect from any collaboration beer shaped by the minds at Jolly Pumpkin and Tired Hands, creativity abounds in Bath-o-Mat & Washeteria as its recipe starts with a “base of Pilsner malt, Crystal 30, Teff, Almonds, and Couscous.”  Hopped with Hallertau and Tettnang hops, this Sour Saison then sees “additions of saffron and lemon [to bring] aromas of Jolly Pumpkin funk, spicy oak and lemon in the nose.”  The Bath-o-Mat & Washeteria (6.4% ABV) experience closes with “flavors of light oak funk and lemon [that pair] well with the slight spiciness and noble hop profile.”

Created as the perfect offering to help you “sail into spring”, Aquamarine Dream is a refreshing Saison brewed with blueberries, blackberries, lime peel, and salt.  Presented as “a beautiful hazy reddish-purple” in appearance, this Sour Fruit Saison billows with aromatics of “berries, blueberries, and cream.”  On the palate, Aquamarine Dream (7.8% ABV) is “tart with flavors of blueberries and blackberries that come together to create an almost boysenberry flavor with a touch of salt.”
