Concrete Beach Brewery (Miami, Florida) recently announced that Mango Gose will officially return on July 1 as the latest release from the brewery’s Limited Series, and this time around it will be available in 16 oz. cans.
Drawing inspiration from “the mountains of tropical fruit sold by street cart vendors” during the summer months in Miami, Concrete Beach Brewery decided to put some mangos to use by developing its Mango Gose. Starting with a base of a German-style wheat ale brewed with coriander and salt, this beer then gets its tropical fruit infusion by way of mangos that were donated by Miami-based EcoRipe Tropicals – a leading importer and distributor of quality tropical fruits and vegetables. Finished off with a little lime zest, the 4.2% ABV Mango Gose comes together to be “a refreshingly pleasant summer beer with a local twist.”
“Last year we received great feedback about our Mango Gose, so I’m excited to bring it back for a second summer and give people the chance to purchase it in cans as well,” said Marco Reyna, head brewer for Concrete Beach. “Goses are traditionally on the sour side with a touch of salinity, so between that and the fresh fruit notes, it’s perfect for summer!”
Mango Gose will make its first official appearance at the 25th International Mango Festival on July 1st and 2nd at the Fairchild Botanical Gardens. During the event, fans will be able to sample the beer for the first time and meet & greet with representatives from both Concrete Beach and EcoRipe Tropicals. Shortly after the Mango Festival, this limited release offering will be available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans found exclusively at the brewery. You will also be able to find Mango Gose on draft at select bars and restaurants located around Miami. Prost!

To help us all beat the heat this summer, Stone Brewing (Escondido, California) has officially announced the release of three Seasonal India Pale Ales: Stone Ghost Hammer IPA, Stone Mocha IPA, and Stone RuinTen Triple IPA w/ Orange Peel & Vanilla Bean.
First up, we have Stone Ghost Hammer IPA making its debut this summer. Brewed in “tribute to the overnight Stone Brew Crew . . . and . . . the occasional creaking of the knocking pipes in the brewery,” this canned Specialty Seasonal is an unfiltered India Pale Ale brewed with Loral hops. “Ethereal” in appearance, Stone Ghost Hammer IPA (6.7% ABV, 56 IBUs) hits its drinker “with a floral, lemony and tropical explosion.” Stone Ghost Hammer IPA is available now and will be hanging out through the summer (while supplies last). You can find this Seasonal IPA in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at craft beer-focused bars, restaurants and retailers located in Alabama, Florida, California, Virginia and throughout the rest of Stone Brewing’s distribution network.
“Our quest for using new and different hops never ends,” says Jeremy Moynier, Senior Innovation Brewing Manager. “Stone Ghost Hammer IPA is our latest beer to highlight innovation in the hop world with a newer hop called Loral, which is named by combining the words ‘lemon’ and ‘floral’ as a nod to the strong lemony notes and its intense floral aroma. Additionally, Loral has some classic European noble hop qualities, making it overall a very unique and exciting hop.”
This Stone Brewing IPA train keeps on rolling with the return of the fan-favorite Stone Mocha IPA. This Imperial Seasonal Double India Pale Ale is a mind-bending brew that “combines the uniquely refreshing characteristics of a bright, fruity IPA and satisfying mocha overtones.” Although Stone Mocha IPA is technically a Double IPA, the folks at Stone Brewing must show “deliberate disregard for traditional brewing styles” by blurring “the lines between an IPA and a stout” to make this beer a reality. This is achieved by employing a recipe that includes golden-roasted coffee, dark chocolate, citrusy hops, and milk sugar. This all results in a 9% ABV Stone Mocha IPA that is “a love child of a beer characterized by a beautiful meld of imperial IPA and mocha indulgence.” Stone Mocha IPA is available now in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft at craft beer establishments located within Stone Brewing’s national distribution footprint.
Finally, this trilogy of summer hop bombs closes out with the release of Stone RuinTen Triple IPA w/ Orange Peel & Vanilla Bean. Created as “an avant-garde amplification to the classic Stone Ruination IPA,” this “mega-hopped” Triple IPA is “loud, aggressive, and quite eccentric.” To take things one step further this year, the brewers at Stone Brewing went beyond the hops and dosed this beast with orange peel and vanilla bean to devise a “more electric and eccentric take on an orangesicle.” Meant for only the most devout of hopheads, Stone RuinTen Triple IPA w/ Orange Peel & Vanilla Bean weighs in at an imposing 10.8% ABV and 110 IBUs. This limited Seasonal release is available now in 22 oz. bottles and on draft at select establishments found within Stone Brewing’s distribution area.
The release of Stone Ghost Hammer IPA, Stone Mocha IPA, and Stone RuinTen Triple IPA w/ Orange Peel & Vanilla Bean at the same time is Christmas come early for hop fiends. Be sure to check out these three Seasonal IPAs before they disappear by summer’s end. Prost!

5 Rabbit Cervecería (Bedford Park, Illinois) has officially announced the release of Cascarudo, a cascara-infused Kettle-Soured Red Ale brewed in collaboration with Central State Brewing Company (Indianapolis, Indiana).
Costa Rican for shameless, Cascarudo was born out of 5 Rabbit Cervecería’s inclination to experiment with cascara – the dried pulped skins of the coffee cherry. After comparing notes on this rarely used ingredient at the last Uppers and Downers Coffee and Beer Festival in Chicago, 5 Rabbit and Central State Brewing Company decided to tackle this project together. Once the cascara was sourced from Gaslight Coffee Roasters, the two breweries decided to create a “beautifully balanced kettle sour red” to act as the vehicle for the featured ingredient. The cascara “adds layers of red fruit, leather and funk” while orange peel and ginger complement the malt bill and “[brighten] the beer as a whole.” To put the finishing touch on Cascarudo, the brewers rounded the beer off by adding oak spirals during fermentation.
Cascarudo is available now in 750ml bottles, and you can expect to find this limited-release collaboration “where good beer is sold” within 5 Rabbit’s distribution area. This unique brew is guaranteed to catch the eye of many in the craft beer community, so be sure to check it out before it disappears from shelves. Prost!

Once the barrel process is completed, Figaro 2015 finally comes to be once “the fruited beer is . . . transferred to a stainless steel tank and blended with a small portion of non-fruited sour blond ale until the desired balance of flavors is achieved.”

On Tuesday, July 11, Celis Brewery (10001 Metric Blvd., Austin, Texas) – Austin’s original craft brewery – will officially return to the craft beer scene with a Grand Opening event that will showcase the brewery’s new facility and three Year-Round offerings.
Celis Brewery was originally founded in 1992 by famed Belgian brewer Pierre Celis and “gained national and international notoriety with its Celis White, a Belgian witbier that . . . Celis championed in his hometown of Hoegaarden, Belgium.” This popularity led to rapid growth that eventually caught the eye of Miller Brewing Company. The brewing giant ended up purchasing Celis Brewery, and the brewery eventually closed its doors in 2001.
Fast-forward to 2017 and things are looking up for the legendary Celis Brewery once again. Christine Celis, Pierre’s daughter and partner in the original brewery, has painstakingly rebuilt Celis Brewery to reestablish her family’s brewing legacy, and the time to officially reopen has finally arrived.
“Austin has its first craft brewery back,” says Ms. Celis, founder and CEO of Celis Brewery. “It has been a labor of love to reopen Celis Brewery, and it is incredibly exciting to be back brewing my father’s original recipes like the famous Celis Wit and Celis Grand Cru using the proprietary yeast from Belgium. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and enthusiasm we have found in Austin as we have started reintroducing our Celis beers around town in a series of tastings this month. We are thrilled to celebrate our return with a Grand Opening party on the 25th anniversary of the first grand opening. We are giving Austin a part of its history back.”
On July 11, the public will have its “first opportunity to tour the 22,000-square-foot brewery . . . that has the capacity to brew more than 50,000 barrels per year.” Highlights from the tour will include the brewery’s “technologically advanced 50 HL BrauKon brew system, some of the original equipment from Belgium, and the new brewery’s taproom with its majestic centerpiece: the original Celis Brewery’s massive hand-beaten copper kettle from the early 1900s which has been converted into a beautiful bar.” Showing off their state-of-the-art equipment will be fun, but the brewing team at Celis Brewery is most looking forward to using the Grand Opening event as an opportunity to convey their dedication to “the same stringent consistency and quality protocols that propelled the original brewery to prominence.”
True evidence of this dedication can only be found in the beer, and Celis Brewery will launch with the following three Year-Round offerings:
Celis White – “The legendary “Father of Witbier” first brewed by Pierre Celis in 1965 is back. The signature witbier is made with the original Celis recipe including Cascade, Saaz and Willamette hops, coriander and orange peel, as well as the proprietary yeast strain from Belgium. This traditional witbier is hazy bright yellow with strong citrus with spicy fruity scents. Celis White sparkles slightly tart fruit flavors balanced with light maltiness and wheat. It finishes with complex citrus and spice for a refreshing taste that is perfect on a warm Texas afternoon.”
Celis Pale Bock – “Christine Celis has revived her father’s Belgian Pale Bock recipe with the same amber color and lingering warm rich flavors as the original. It’s brewed with caramel malts, and Saaz, Willamette and Cascade hops, giving it a deep copper and a creamy Belgian-white head. The Pale Bock has dry berry with caramel-malt and citrus aromas, and delicious flavors of subdued berry, malt, a touch of citrus, hints of herbs and spices, and a touch of bitterness at the finish. This easy drinking, full-flavored beer is sure to inspire engaging conversations with friends.”
Celis Citrus Grandis IPA – “Celis Brewery’s first new recipe is an East Coast style IPA made with the finest Azacca and Citra hops. This zesty Caribbean-inspired brew mingles juicy citrus and tropical fruit aromatics in its hazy golden depths. The IPA pours hazy pale orange with frothy, paper-white head. The effortlessly drinkable beer has bold flavors of grapefruit, orange rind and melons followed by light peach, passionfruit and pineapple notes. It finishes with lingering piney, hop bitterness that begs for a second sip.”
The three beers above will be pouring at the Grand Opening event, and they are also available “on tap at more than 100 bars and restaurants in central Texas.” Celis Brewery plans to systematically roll out distribution with expansion “to Dallas Fort Worth in July, and San Antonio and Hill Country in August.” Bottles are expected to be available by August 2017, and the brewery plans to introduce more beers in fall as well – this includes the lauded Celis Grand Cru mentioned above.
With all the negativity recently raised in the beer community due to buyouts, it is more than refreshing to see a brewery comeback from such a situation. If you are in the Austin area, this truly is an occasion that needs to be celebrated and recognized. Whether you wait until the Grand Opening on July 11 or track them down early at a local pub, just be sure to raise a glass to Celis Brewery and welcome them back to the amazing craft beer scene it once had a hand in establishing. Prost!
