21st Amendment Brewery (San Leandro, California) has officially announced that it will begin the Seasonal Release of Tasty Juicy Pale Ale in July 2020.

A reformulated take on 21st Amendment’s previously released Tasty IPA that will “[advance] the concept of what a Pale Ale can be,” Tasty Juicy is a Hazy/Juicy Pale Ale that “has more hop flavor and aroma while being less bitter than an IPA.” Coming in at just 5% ABV and 35 IBUs, Tasty Juicy is “light gold in color, refreshing and [has] a bright hop character.”

Benjamin Franklin once said, “When you are finished changing, you’re finished.” Whether it was a lightning rod or a kite with a big brass key, Franklin endeavored to advance an idea through trials and experimentation. Our Tasty Juicy takes the pale ale style to another level.

Civil Society Brewing Goes Hop Crazy with Triple Can Release

Civil Society Brewing Company (Jupiter, Florida) has officially announced that it will hold a Triple Can Release for Can’t Touch This IPA, Dun Dun Dun Dun DIPA and Imperial DankStar Triple IPA at noon on Friday, July 17.

Ready to bring some fire to this Florida summer, Civil Society will be dropping cans of the following two collaborations and one additional brand new offering on Friday (descriptions sourced directly from the brewery’s Instagram page):

Cigar City Brewing Adds Spanish Cedar Jai Alai to Seasonal Lineup

Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, Florida) has officially announced that it will introduce Spanish Cedar Jai Alai as its newest Seasonal Release in July 2020.

Originally released many moons ago under the name Humidor Series IPA, Spanish Cedar Jai Alai is an India Pale Ale that has the “bold citrus qualities of Jai Alai . . . complimented by sandalwood and cracked pepper notes imparted by Spanish cedar, the same wood used to build the world’s finest cigar humidors.” Coming in at 7.5% ABV and 65 IBUs, Spanish Cedar Jai Alai is “balanced and juicy on the palate, [has] caramel-like malt flavor [that] helps temper bitterness and spice from the wood, while the distinct flavor of cedar lingers long on the tongue.”

Spanish Cedar Jai Alai is available now and scheduled to hang around through September 2020. Hidden Springs Ale Works Begins Limited Release of Moonflower

Hidden Springs Ale Works (Tampa, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Moonflower, a decadent Berliner, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

Here to give you the alluring energy of moonlight at any time of day, Moonflower is a Berliner Weisse-style Ale featuring black currant, hazelnut, chocolate, vanilla and “a kiss of milk sugar.” Coming in at 5.5% ABV, Moonflower promises to bestow its drinker with a “rich, hypnotizing flavor.”

Moonflower will debut at Hidden Springs Ale Works on July 15 and you can get your stash by ordering online for pick up, calling the brewery at 813-226-BREW to build a pick up order (phone ordering begins at 2 p.m.), or via an old fashioned walk in to grab some to-go beers. Wild Leap Brew Co. Releases Latest Batch of Three Harvest Double IPA

Wild Leap Brew Co. (LaGrange, Georgia) has officially announced that Three Harvest, a Double IPA brewed in collaboration with hydroponic hop farm Extreme Hops AL (Auburn, Alabama), will return for a Summer 2020 Limited Release in early July.

The second release in Wild Leap’s off-season fresh hop project with Extreme Hops AL, Three Harvest is a Double India Pale Ale brewed with “wet, unkilned whole cone Cascade hop” which were specifically “harvested for immediate introduction into the kettle.” Boasting a wealth of classic “notes of pine and grapefruit [hop] flavors,” the “well-balanced” Three Harvest -Summer 2020 (8.2% ABV) is “thick in body similar to other Wild Leap Double IPAs,”

“When [Ralf DuToit, Head Hop Farmer at Extreme Hops AL], approached us with his hop project, asking us to test the first harvest of his hydroponic hops, we couldn’t believe it,” says Wild Leap Co-Founder and CEO, Anthony Rodriguez. “Hydroponic hop farms in the U.S. are far and few between and generally produce a limited amount of hops. After we tested a small batch, we knew this was the start of something truly unique.”

“Three Harvest is the first beer to come out of our hydroponic hop journey with Extreme Hops AL and it’s nowhere near the last,” says Wild Leap’s Chief Brewing Officer, Chris Elliott. “We’ve been working with Ralf and a research team out of Auburn University on best practices and methods when working with hydroponic hops. We’re adding different cultivations and strains of hops over the next few growing seasons, so consumers can expect our flavor profiles to expand in the near future.”

Curbside pickup for Three Harvest – Summer 2020 began at Wild Leap Brew Co. on July 13 and distribution is scheduled to begin this week. 3 Sons Brewing Company (Dania Beach, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Dania Fog, a Hazy Double IPA brewed in collaboration with Humble Sea Brewing Co. (Santa Cruz, California), on July 15.

Brewed as an “homage to the brewery that put Florida on the map” – Cigar City Brewing, Dania Fog is Hazy/Juicy Double India Pale Ale that has been double dry-hopped with Vic Secret, Mosaic and Citra hops. This hop bill provides the “full-bodied and fluffy” Dania Fog with “a dank tropical nose” alongside “tasting notes of mango, pineapple and equatorial citrus.” Coming in at 8.1% ABV, Dania Fog is “without a doubt . . . the HAZIEST DIPA [3 Sons Brewing Company has] ever made!!”

The latest released to be scooped out of TrimTab’s Cellar Reserve Series of Imperial Stouts and Dessert Stouts, Triple Scoop is an Imperial Stout “brewed with Chocolate Malts, Cacao Puree, Cocoa Powder, and Chocolate Soft-serve Ice Cream.” Clocking in at 9.5% ABV, Triple Scoop promises to be “16 ounces of delicious decadence.”

Tasting Notes: Soaring Dragon Imperial IPA from Stone Brewing

For this edition of Tasting Notes, we step away from the realities of the world and ride the skies with Stone Soaring Dragon Imperial IPA from Stone Brewing (Escondido, California).

Inspired by ” a side trip . . . a few of [Stone Brewing’s] brewers took . . . to the famous Tianshan Tea City market” in Shanghai, China, Stone Soaring Dragon is an Imperial India Pale Ale brewed with a blend of Citra and Loral hops and Peony White Tea. Coming in at 8% ABV and 38 IBUs, Stone Soaring Dragon Imperial IPA boasts “a delicate complexity within an intense double IPA punch.”

With all the background information now out of the way, let’s get into these Tasting Notes and see where Stone Soaring Dragon Imperial IPA takes us!

Tasting Notes for Stone Soaring Dragon Imperial IPA from Stone Brewing

Appearance: Poured from a 12 oz. can into a small, branded goblet, this IPA is a bright golden yellow in color and capped a perfect finger of frothy white foam. When held to direct light, the color remains the same golden yellow, but it does glow with some added vibrancy. The beer is clear and displays an abundance of tiny, highly active carbonation bubbles bouncing about within. Head retention is fantastic, falling gracefully to a lasting half finger that leaves chunky lace formations on the glass after each sip.

Aroma: A flourish of floral aromas quickly fill the air as notes of herbal tea and freshly cut grass rush to catch up. Peach and apricot then surface with just a touch citrus-laced cedar tagging along. Lightly sweet malt notes, accompanied by a bit of lychee and a twist of lemon, pull up late to close things out.

Taste: The herbaceousness of the added tea pops beautifully before it is smoothed out with a dollop of sweet honey. Blueberry, apricot and papaya (along with its peppery seeds) add a touch of fruity sweetness while a bit of cedar and pine balances with some tempered hoppiness. A soft whisper of grapefruit keeps the hop character alive and carries it through the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation, this beer is slick on the palate, but it dries out immediately after it has allowed the taste buds to adequately experience the full power of its flavorful complexity. Gently bitter on the palate, the mix of floral, herbal and sweet tones get equal attention and come together to make this an wonderfully balanced IPA. The 8% ABV is composed and reserved, but it does offer just the slightest bit of warmth to set in the throat at times. The aftertaste is a soft, lingering note of herbal tea with a squeeze of grapefruit.

Final Thoughts: Warning – the following statement is incredibly corny but that does not make it any less true: Stone Soaring Dragon Imperial IPA not only meets the expectations one has when they get into an IPA from Stone Brewing, but it also soars well beyond them (we know . . . forgive us). Every little nuance of this beer was incredibly well thought out, accounted for and then placed just so that they would all complement and elevate the others. The added white tea is present but dialed in perfectly so that it can accentuate and meld effortlessly with the Loral and Citra hops. The malts take it a step further by added a honey-like note that feels at home with both the tea and the fruity character produced by the hops. All in all, this beer is simply gorgeous and easily one Stone Brewing’s most dynamic and balanced IPAs to date. If you have not already, make sure you get your hands on some Stone Soaring Dragon Imperial IPA before its limited run comes to end later this month. Prost!
