Creature Comforts Brewing Co. (Athens, Georgia) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Athena Painkiller on Friday, June 11.

Inspired by the iconic tropical cocktail of the same name, Athena Painkiller is a Berliner Weisse brewed with pineapple, coconut, orange, lime, nutmeg and vanilla. Coming in at 4.5% ABV, Athena Painkiller is a can full of summer vibes.

Athena Painkiller – available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans – is scheduled to release in the taproom at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. on June 11 (click here to reserve your cans on Oznr) and will hang around only as long as supplies last. Dropping as the next offering to come out of Southern Grist’s Hill Series that takes the brewery’s base lactose Sour Ale and hits it with “a massive addition of fruit purees and fun ingredients,” Marshmallow Passion Fruit Raspberry Strawberry Hill is a Fruited Sour Ale “brewed with lactose, marshmallows, passion fruit, raspberry, and strawberry” (surprising . . . I know). Coming in at 5.6% ABV, the “smoothie-like” Marshmallow Passion Fruit Raspberry Strawberry Hill is “loaded with luscious, rich berries and tropical notes elevated by marshmallows to add a pillowy softness!”

Bissell Brothers Brewing (Portland, Maine) has officially announced that it will release the first 2021 batch of Worth A Visit, Worth A Lifetime in late May.

Dropping just in time to celebrate the arrival of summer in Portland, Worth A Visit, Worth A Lifetime is a Hazy/Juicy Triple India Pale Ale “hopped with loads of Vic Secret, Mosaic, Citra and Southern Passion.” Coming in at 10% ABV and boasting “notes of grapefruit pulp, fruit salad and Creamsaver,” Worth A Visit, Worth A Lifetime is “as close to a cocktail-in-a-can as [it gets] at Bissell Brothers.”

Burial Beer Co. Raids the Candy Jar to Create Skillet Snacks

Burial Beer Co. (Asheville, North Carolina) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Skillet Snacks on Wednesday, May 26.

Concocted to be an even more decadent take on Burial’s infamous Skillet Donut Stout “made from a blend of nine barley malts, a healthy scoop of oats, milk and molasses sugars, and [their] favorite blend of freshly roasted Counter Culture Coffee beans,” Skillet Snacks takes the OG Skillet and “[ages it] upon heaps of house-made peanut butter, French Broad Chocolates Cocoa Nibs, fresh vanilla bean, and some candy sugars.” Coming in at 8% ABV, Skillet Snacks offers a “fistful of molten reeces cups chased with bags of M&M’s and washed down with caramel hot chocolate.”

A very limited amount of 4-packs of 16 oz. cans of Skillet Snacks – along with cans of the original Skillet and the Skillet mug pictured above – will be available for online presale for pickup at Burial Beer Co.’s Asheville taproom, Raleigh taproom and Charlotte taproom at noon on May 26. If any cans survive the presale, the brewery will release those in their online shop for nationwide shipping on May 27 at noon. Skillet Snacks will not see distribution. Prost!

Spectrology Sour Next Up for Curbside Release at Heavy Seas Beer

Heavy Seas Beer (Baltimore, Maryland) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Curbside Release of Spectrology Sour on Friday, April 30.

The latest release to come out of Heavy Seas Beer’s 15 Barrel Brewhouse, Spectrology Sour is a tropically-themed Sour Ale boasting additions of pineapple, passion fruit and mango purees. Coming in at 8% ABV, the “tart, and freakishly tropical” Spectrology Sour is a “sour and juicy treat . . . best enjoyed in the company of other ghost hunters.”

“We wanted to create a freakishly tropical sour for the spring” says Heavy Seas Associate Brand Manager, Amanda Zivkovic. “Spectrology Sour has layers and layers of fruit flavor in every sip!” 

“Always looking to work with new products and techniques, we’ve employed a unique lactic acid producing strain of yeast to create this tart, fruity sour,” comments Heavy Seas Brewmaster Christopher Leonard. “Pineapple, mango, and passion fruit purees lend a bright tropical nose to the beer. Tampa Bay Brewing Co. (Tampa, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Can Release of The Beast Beneath at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 20.

Emerging from “the ominous depths of the sea,” The Beast Beneath is an Imperial Stout that “[showcases] deep aromas of espresso & baker’s chocolate.” Coming in at a monstrous 10% ABV, the behemoth known as The Beast Beneath “offers a chewy, velvety and luscious mouthfeel, followed by robust notes of toffee, dark chocolate & dark roasted coffee.”
