First released back in July 2016, Mutualism starts with a base Pilsner “brewed using local wheat and grits from Georgia-based DaySpring Farms.” It then picks up its “Farmhouse” designation when finished with “a secondary fermentation with a blend of both Creature Comforts’ and Jester King’s house-mixed cultures of yeast and bacteria. The beer was then bottle conditioned for five months.” Coming in at an easy-drinking 6% ABV, Mutualism is described by both breweries as being “dry, round, and defined.”
“We feel that this beer is a beautiful balance of our two breweries,” said Blake Tyers, Wood Cellar and Specialty Brand Manager at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. “Our work together, and our house cultures working together created a mutually beneficial relationship revealed in the beauty of this beer.”

The breweries bonded over a strong admiration for beers that represent a time and place, which inspired the blending of the two house cultures as well as the use of local grits, a staple in Southern homes.” Fun Fact #2 – On the label artwork: “Creature Comforts resident artist, Melissa Merrill, designed the label art for Mutualism. The label depicts both breweries’ logos as one cohesive unit, representative of the symbiotic qualities of the beer. Creature Comforts Brewing Co. (Athens, Georgia) has announced that this year’s Limited Release of Cosmik Debris Double IPA (2019) will officially begin on Tuesday, April 16.
Released annually each spring “because the newest and freshest hops are available to brewers at that time”, Cosmik Debris (8% ABV) is a Double India Pale Ale that features “an intense amount of Simcoe, Idaho 7, Mosaic, Cascade, and Chinook hops.” This massive hop bill provides a “firm bitterness” and an aroma bursting with “citrus zest, melon, and subtle pine” while “a lighter malt character paves the way to a delicious, soft, and balanced flavor profile.”
“Cosmik Debris should always be kept cold and consumed as fresh as possible,” said Co-founder & Brewmaster Adam Beauchamp. “Allowing it to age would lessen the brilliant, fresh aroma that we worked to infuse into the beer.”
This year’s batch of Cosmik Debris Double IPA will debut in the Creature Comforts Tasting Room on April 16 and distribution is scheduled to follow shortly after the onsite release. You can expect to find this Limited Release offering available in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at select craft beer-friendly establishments located within Creature Comforts Brewing Co.’s distribution footprint in Georgia. of the blend is 23 months in whiskey barrels.” Meant to be a slow-sipping celebratory offering, Five Year Anniversary Ale weighs in at 12.8% ABV.
“The last five years have been an unbelievable journey,” said CEO Chris Herron. “We’re immensely grateful for the support from our incredible community over the years, and to have the opportunity to continue pursuing our passion.”
Arriving as the latest offering to come out of Creature Comforts’ newly-expanded Wood Cellar, Pearson is “a fruited ale aged in oak barrels that showcases locally sourced peaches from Fort Valley, Georgia’s Pearson Farm.” To ensure that Pearson (6.5% ABV) would be “the best peach beer possible”, the brewery “worked directly with ‘the Peach Guru’ John Short of Georgia Proud Provisions to select the Elberta peach, the original king peach of Georgia, to feature in the 2018 vintage, and determined select barrels to create a blend that honors the flavors of the chosen peach variety.”
Pearson will begin flowing on draft in the Creature Comforts Tasting Room at noon on March 30, and “the first 50 folks to order the beer on draft will get a souvenir stemware.” This Limited Release offering will also be available for purchase in 500ml bottles for the price of $16 each (limit of 6 bottles per person). Creature Comforts Brewing Co. (Athens, Georgia) has officially announced that it is getting ready for “the big game” by once again partnering with hip-hop super duo Run the Jewels to release a new batch of Stay G-O-L-D IPA on Tuesday, January 29.
Originally released in October 2017 as one of several IPA collaborations that Run the Jewels created with a handful of breweries across the country, the Creature Comforts’ version of Stay G-O-L- D has been revived to hit fans with that “hazy, juicy, and dank” India Pale Ale experience one more time. Brewed with Citra, Mosaic, Strata, and Chinook hops, Stay G-O-L-D (6% ABV) “offers a great marriage of dank, pine, and resin flavors paired with a punch of peach, melon, and orange tropical notes.”

“Get Comfortable aims to align as many partners as possible to make the largest impact that we collectively can. Beyond the more than 40 local businesses participating in this year’s campaign, we are profoundly honored to welcome a new partner this year in Russian River Brewing Company. Headquartered across the country in Sonoma County, they obviously operate beyond the borders of Athens-Clarke, but they are absolutely a part of our craft beer community,” said Director of Community & Culture, Matt Stevens.
“Given our desire to transition the Get Comfortable release into an annual collaboration, and specifically our aim to leverage this program to intersect with other craft breweries famous for their philanthropic work, Russian River was an obvious choice to inaugurate this new direction. Whether it’s their annual Framboise for a Cure release, past participation in Ales for ALS, or most recently, their rallying the craft beer world around the Sonoma Pride project in the wake of last year’s California wildfires, they remain an industry leader both in the quality of their product and the reputation of their charity.”
To draw more attention to the campaign in 2019 and in years moving forward, the Get Comfortable program “will begin partnering with another brewery each year to release a collaborative beer to generate funds for the campaign.” Russian River Brewing Company has partnered with Creature Comforts for the 2019 campaign, and the two breweries collaborated to brew Get Comfortable IPA – an India Pale Ale featuring Strata, Amarillo, Comet, and Pahto hops.
“When Russian River put a call out to our friends in the craft beer industry last year to raise money for the victims of the 2017 Sonoma County fires, Creature Comforts came forward to help support the cause. It was pretty early on in our recruiting, so naturally I was blown away that a brewery all the way from Athens, Georgia would help out,” said Russian River Owner & Brewer Vinnie Cilurzo. “Fast forward to the 2018 Firestone Walker Invitational, Adam and I were having a beer and discussing beer and business and he told me about the Get Comfortable campaign Creature Comforts was doing. When Adam asked if we’d like to brew a beer together to help raise money for local charities in Athens, it was an easy yes. At Russian River, we look at giving back to our community as a part of our business model, so it is great to connect with others in the beer industry like Creature Comforts who have the same values.”
The 2019 Get Comfortable campaign and Get Comfortable IPA – available throughout the campaign on draft and in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans – will both launch on Wednesday, February 6 in the Tasting Room at Creature Comforts. This event will kick off “a pronounced season of emphasis taking place February 6 through April 10, during which the brewery will donate 100-percent of its Wednesday ‘community day’ profits towards the Get Comfortable fund.” Get Comfortable merchandise, another means of raising funds for the campaign, will also be available during the launch event. Prost!
Creature Comforts Brewing Co. (Athens, Georgia) has officially announced that it will begin a limited bottle release for Athens to Athens Grist to Grist, a wine barrel-aged Saison brewed in collaboration withJackie O’s Brewery (Athens, Ohio), on Friday, January 11.
Meant to unify the distinct characteristics of two American breweries that both call a town named Athens home, Athens to Athens Grist to Grist is a Saison that was originally brewed in February of 2017 with a base recipe that included “spelt sourced from Jackie O’s community in Ohio and wheat locally sourced from DaySpring Farms in Danielsville, Georgia.” That Saison base was then split among wine barrels with “half the barrels inoculated with Creature Comforts’ house-mixed culture, and the other half with Jackie O’s house-mixed culture.” After spending a year in those barrels, the two Saisons were finally blended to perfectly marry “Jackie O’s signature lemon meringue flavor . . . with Creature Comforts’ stone fruit notes.” The completed Athens to Athens Grist to Grist comes in at 6% ABV.
“By inoculating the barrels with each of our mixed-cultures separately, we were able to allow our house cultures to develop the flavors they would on their own and then blend the beer to create a unique voice together,” said Blake Tyers, Wood Cellar and Specialty Brand Manager at Creature Comforts. “I have such a huge respect for Brad and the work he’s done at Jackie O’s. I favored the Jackie O’s character in the blend to present something different than what we typically offer, and to present a distinct saison that is truly representative of the collaboration.”
“This project was conceived two years ago through an innocent conversation about how we both brewed in towns named Athens,” said Jackie O’s Director of Brewing Operations Brad Clark. “A seemingly simple discourse led to a collaborative concept that pulls from a time, and most importantly a place. We brewed with each other at both breweries over the course of seven days! Time spent together in our respective place of being, led to some dynamic beers that transcended both environment and glass.”
Athens to Athens Grist to Grist will officially release in the Creature Comforts Tasting Room on Friday, January 11. This Limited Release offering will be available in 750ml bottles and is not expected to see distribution. Prost!
