Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan) recently took to its Cadre Newsletter to announce that KBS Hazelnut will see a Limited Release beginning in March 2022.

The latest offering to come out of Founders Brewing Co.’s relatively new line of KBS variants, KBS Hazelnut is a Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Stout that “allows the existing premium coffee and chocolate notes to soar to new heights when accented by the nutty sweetness of hazelnut.” Clocking in at 12% ABV, KBS Hazelnut is the spot where the “perfectly balanced and decadent drinking experience of KBS meets the classic taste of hazelnut.”

KBS Hazelnut is scheduled to debut in March 2022 and will hang around only as long as supplies last. Founders Brewing Co. Will Kick Off 2022 with Return of Frootwood

Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan) recently took to its Cadre Newsletter to announced that it will launch its 2022 Barrel-Aged Series with the return of Frootwood in January.

Back by popular demand after a successful introduction back in 2017, Frootwood is a cherry-filled Fruit Beer that was then “hid . . . away in oak maple syrup bourbon barrels . . . [to emerge] blanketed in notes of warm vanilla and cherry sweetness.” Coming in at 8% ABV, Frootwood allows the “wood . . . [to be] the star of this beer, adding depth and taming the tartness while the maple character from the barrel imposes a velvety texture that lingers for not a moment too long.”

Frootwood is scheduled to return in January 2022 and will hang around only as long as supplies last. Founders Brewing Co. Set for Return of Oktoberfest

Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan) has officially announced that it will begin the nationwide Limited Release of its Oktoberfest in August 2021.

Crafted with the intent to be “all in on tradition,” Oktoberfest is a Bavarian-style Märzen brewed with “imported German malts and hops with a beautiful lager yeast for the finish.” Coming in at 6% ABV and boasting a “rich, malty and slightly sweet backbone,” Oktoberfest is “akin to the beer poured in the early days of Oktoberfest and, yes, it adheres to the Reinheitsgebot.”

Oktoberfest will hit Founder Brewing Co.’s Grand Rapids and Detroit taprooms on July 28 and nationwide distribution will follow in August. Inspired heavily by “both high-end craft cocktails and moody jazz clubs,” Velvet Rush is an Imperial Brown Ale aged in Bourbon barrels and dosed with coffee, chocolate, vanilla extract and milk sugar. Weighing in at 11.1% ABV, Velvet Rush “[weaves] together [a] complex tapestry of flavors to create a unique sipping experience that really ties the room together.”

Modeled after the classic Old Fashioned cocktail, Highball Drifter is a Bourbon Barrel-aged American Strong Ale with orange peel and cherry added. Coming in at a smooth sippin’ 11% ABV, Highball Drifter “presents aromatics of caramel and vanilla, dried fruit and spice while hints of cherry and bitter orange peel whisk you away like a tumbling tumbleweed.”

Nemesis Returns to Launch Founders Brewing Co.’s New Bottle Shop Series

Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan) has officially announced that it will begin the nationwide Limited Release of Nemesis, the first release in the brewery’s newly established Bottle Shop Series, in early April 2021.

Originally released in 2010 as the blue label offering in Founders Brewing Co.’s short-lived Nemesis Series and now back to launch the brewery’s Bottle Shop Series that serves as “a tribute to the folks who supported ragtag brewers across the country when craft beer was in its infancy,” Nemesis is an American-style Barleywine “brewed with roasted malts and no shortage of hops for a pleasantly bitter, booming flavor.” Coming in at an imposing 11.2% ABV, Nemesis “pours with a slight and subtle mahogany hue and a multitude of flavors that melt on your tongue – this is one Nemesis you’ll feel good about keeping around.”

“This is a beer we first brewed back in 2010 – it was Nemesis with the blue label. Extreme beers were all the rage and I was really just looking to create something that I hadn’t seen done before,” said Founders Brewmaster, Jeremy Kosmicki. “For this one, I was targeting sort of a hybrid between a Barleywine and an Imperial Stout – less roasted malt than you’d expect in a stout but just enough to turn the color dark and add another layer of complexity to an already deep disposition of flavors. I thought it would be a fun way to kick off the Bottle Shop Series – with a blast from the past and a tribute to everyone who helped launch the era of extreme beer!”

Nemesis is available now in Founders Brewing Co.’s Grand Rapids and Detroit taprooms and is scheduled to enter nationwide distribution on April 1. Founders Brewing Co. Adds All Day Vacay to Seasonal Lineup

Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan) has officially announced that All Day Vacay will join the brewery’s Seasonal portfolio in April 2021.

Arriving as the “first line extension from the original session IPA – All Day IPA – in Founders Brewing Co. history,” All Day Vacay is an American Wheat Ale “that packs in flavor; stone fruit and tropical hop aromas combine with citrus and slight bready notes, to finish with moderate sweetness and a soft, refreshing mouthfeel.” Coming in at a super sessionable 4.6% ABV, All Day Vacay is “the perfect companion for any type of adventure.”

“We are continually looking for interesting and unique beer alternatives for different occasions. All Day IPA was a real game changer for us at Founders,” said President and Co-Founder, Dave Engbers. “We all love spending time outdoors, so we challenged ourselves to find a light, refreshing and delicious wheat extension to the All Day franchise. With all our brands, it’s about balance. Finding the right combination of malted barley and specialty grains balanced with the bitterness and aroma of hops is truly the artistry of creating a great beer.”

Founders Brewing Co. Unveils 2021 Brand Calendar

It’s back! Beer calendar season is upon us one again and this year we are kicking things off with a look at the official 2021 Brand Calendar from Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan).

In keeping with our approach in previous years when it comes to release calendars, we have posted Founders Brewing Co.’s full 2021 Brand Calendar below for you to peruse at your own pace. With that said, we would like to point out a few highlights before we turn you over to that document:

  • After a successful debut as a Limited Release in 2020, 4 Giants IPA – “a mashup of four of [the brewery’s] favorite imperial IPA recipes” – will return in March 2021 as a Year-Round offering. 4 Giants IPA will be available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans and on draft.
  • The 2021 Barrel-Aged Series will open with the March release of Panther Cub, a Robust Porter “aged in the finest bourbon barrels available along with a kiss of maple syrup and vanilla extract. The aroma of maple and vanilla combine with a surprisingly deep character to make this rare creature one to gaze upon fondly.”
  • In April 2021, Founders will launch the Bottle Shop Series, a series created as a tribute to the early days of craft; when beer enthusiasts sought out innovation through big flavor, in-your-face complexity and revered quality above all else. This series will kick off with the release of Nemesis, a barleywine-style ale brewed with roasted malts and no shortage of hops for a pleasantly bitter, booming flavor (11.2% ABV). It will hit shelves across the country in 4-packs of 12oz bottles in April.
  • Más Agave Clásica Lime (10% ABV), Más Agave Clásica Grapefruit (9.7% ABV), and a yet-to-be-announced Más Agave Clásica variant will be released in May 2021 as a part of the Barrel-Aged Series lineup. All three Más Agave Clásica brands will be available nationwide in 4-packs of 12oz bottles and on draft.
  • Beginning in Spring 2021, Founders will roll out Más Agave Premium Hard Seltzer nationwide. The premium hard seltzer is currently available in ten markets (MI, IL, AZ, TX, FL, PA, NJ, MA, CO and Las Vegas, NV). Más Agave Premium Hard Seltzer is available in 6-pack cans in two flavors: strawberry and lime. It is also available in a variety 15-pack which includes lime, strawberry and grapefruit flavors.

“Shaking things up a bit is somewhat of the norm at Founders,” said Co-Founder and President Dave Engbers. “It’s not just taking the path less chosen – it’s bushwhacking a new trail altogether. Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan) recently took to its Cadre Newsletter to announce that it will begin the Limited Release of Panther Cub, the latest offering to join the brewery’s vaunted Barrel-Aged Series, in early February 2021.

A special brew some may recognize from an appearance at a Black Beer Party held at Founders Brewing Co. a few years ago and/or as an early installment in the brewery’s Mothership Series of taproom-exclusive releases, Panther Cub is a Robust Porter “aged in the finest bourbon barrels available along with a kiss of maple syrup and vanilla extract.” Clocking in at 9.2% ABV, Panther Cub possesses an “aroma of maple and vanilla [that combines] with a surprisingly deep character to make this rare creature one to gaze upon fondly. Don’t let it fool you, this kitty has claws.”

Panther Cub is set to pounce in February 2021 and will hang around only as long as supplies last.
