Great Divide Continues Wood Werks Series with Small Batch Release of Golden Sour Ale

Great Divide Brewing Company (Denver, Colorado) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Wood Werks Golden Sour Ale in April 2021.

Dropping as the latest offering to come out of Great Divide’s Wood Werks Series of Small Batch barrel-aged beers, Wood Werks Golden Sour Ale is a Farmhouse-inspired Golden Sour Ale that began as “three different Belgian-inspired . . . beers [aged] separately for a year in Pinot Noir barrels and spiked . . . with a blend of three unique souring agents.” Once the aging and souring process was completed, the beer was then “blended and left to rest directly on a bed of white grapes.” The resulting Golden Sour Ale comes in at 6% ABV and offers an experience that is “pleasantly sour with a rich, fruity bouquet of melon, grapes, pear and apricot.”

Wood Werks Golden Sour Ale is scheduled to debut in April 2021 and will hang around only as long as supplies last. You can expect to find this Limited Release available in 16 oz. cans and on draft at select accounts located within Great Divide’s distribution area. Prost!

Great Divide Brewing Co. Unveils 2020 Release Calendar

Coffee-Porter-LabelA new year means plenty of new beer, and this week we are here to provide you with a look at the 2020 Release Calendar from Great Divide Brewing Company (Denver, Colorado).

As is the case with most beer release calendars around these parts, we have posted Great Divide’s full 2020 Release Calendar below for you to sift through at your own leisure. With that said, there are a few exciting new releases and changes that we would like to point out real quick.  Let’s get to it:

  • Previously only available as a part of the brewery’s Tank Farm Series of limited releases, Strawberry Rhubarb Sour will be promoted to Year-Round status in April of 2020.
  • Car Camper, a Hazy Pale Ale spotlighting Sabro hops, will also join Great Divide’s Year-Round lineup in April. Car Camper will have availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft.
  • The Tank Farm Series will see the addition of Coffee Porter, a special collaboration project with Denver’s Pablo’s Coffee.  Here is how Matt Sandy, Marketing Manager at Great Divide, describes this new brew:
“I am particularly excited about our collaboration with Pablo’s Coffee.  Though it sounds simple on the surface, this is one of the more multifaceted beers we’ve brewed. Whiskey barrels that once held Barrel Aged Yeti Imperial Stout were filled with green coffee beans and aged to perfection. The beans were then roasted, ground and given back to us to brew this Coffee Porter. We’ll be releasing the beer in February and some of remaining the barrel aged beans will be available at Pablo’s locations.”
  • The Wood Werks Barrel Series will transition to 16 oz. cans this year and the 2020 lineup will include the following three new offerings: Wood Werks Old Fashioned (March), Wood Werks Golden Sour with Fruit (June), and Wood Werks Double Barrel Belgian (September).
  • 2020 will see four variants of the brewery’s beloved Yeti Imperial Stout: Chocolate Cherry Yeti (February – April), S’mores Yeti (May – July), Pumpkin Yeti **NEW** (August – October), and a yet-to-be-named new Yeti variant (November – December).
  • Finally, Great Divide will get into the alcoholic sparkling water game in 2020 with the introduction of Whitewater Hard Seltzer. The brewery will release a variety 12-pack with four flavors in the spring.

“Whitewater will be crisp, refreshing and taste like real fruit,” explained Great Divide founder and president, Brian Dunn. “We’re excited to meet the demand for seltzer with a product we’re proud to serve and drink.”

Those are just a few of the highlights, but there are still quite a few new releases and returning fan-favorites left for you to discover on the calendar below.  Check it out and get ready for another exciting year with Great Divide Brewing Company in 2020. Prost!

Great Divide Releases Barrel-Aged Brown Rye Ale as Latest Wood Werks Offering

WW_No 3_flatGreat Divide Brewing Co. (Denver, Colorado) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Wood Werks No. 3 – Barrel-aged Brown Rye Ale in August.

Arriving as the latest offering to come out of Great Divide’s new barrel-aged series that allows its brewers to explore and experiment with a variety of styles in a variety of barrels, Wood Werks No. 3 started life as an Imperial Brown Rye Ale “brewed with copious amounts of malted and flaked rye, accentuating spicy and bready notes.”  The beer was then sent to age for 13 months in 10-Year Rye Whiskey barrels so that its “complex malt bill” could pick up “spirited characteristics” from those barrels.  This lengthy and careful aging process ultimately paid off by producing a 12.6% ABV Wood Werks No. 3 – Barrel-aged Brown Rye Ale that promises to offer a “smooth and full-bodied finish.”

Wood Werks No. 3 – Barrel-aged Brown Rye Ale will roll out in August and is scheduled to stick around – as long as supplies last – through September 2018.  You can expect to find this Limited Release available in 12 oz. bottles and on draft at select craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado and throughout the rest of Great Divide’s distribution footprint.  Prost!

Great Divide Brewing Co. Kicks Off Wood Werks Series with Belgian-style Sour

GreatDivideWWBSSGreat Divide Brewing Co. (Denver, Colorado) has announced that it is officially launching its Wood Werks Barrel Series with the February release of Wood Werks No. 1 – Belgian-style Sour.

After completing an expansion that allowed an investment in “two temperature and humidity controlled barrel aging rooms”, Great Divide Brewing Co. is now set to expand its barrel-aging program with the launch of the Work Werks Barrel Series.  With the capability and capacity to broaden their barrel selection well beyond just whiskey barrels, this new series will now allow the brewery to explore and experiment with a variety of styles including barrel-aged Sour Ales.  Each year, the Wood Werks Barrel Series will feature “brand new recipes and styles, each unique and different from the last.”

The first release in this series will be Wood Werks No. 1 – Belgian-style Sour, a Belgian-style Tripel that was “artfully soured for 15 months in red wine barrels and aged on plums.”  This lengthy treatment period resulted in a pink-hued, spiced Sour Ale that “has notes of luscious stone fruit with a tart, dry finish and hint of French oak.” This “labor of love and patience” comes in at 9.3% ABV.

The Wood Werks Barrel Series will continue to produce releases throughout 2018.  Belgian-style Sour will be followed by a Flemish Sour Brown Ale in May, a Barrel Aged Brown Rye Ale in August, and Barrel Aged Yeti at the end of the year.
