Jester King Brewery To Release Tasting Room Exclusive Provenance Black Lime

JesterkinglogoJester King Brewery (Austin, Texas) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Provenance Black Lime on Thursday, August 22.

Arriving as the next installment in Jester King’s citrus-themed series, Provenance Black Lime (5.6% ABV) is a Farmhouse Ale that incorporates black limes in the boil of “a similar [base beer] to previous Provenance iterations.”  This approach produces a beer that is “deeper in color, with more caramel notes and more body” than past Provenance releases.

“We took limes from G&S Orchards and sliced them into ¼ inch disks, then dehydrated those disks at 140 degrees Fahrenheit for 7-10 days. The process is a slow caramelization of the sugars within the fruit as well as enzymatic oxidation of the flesh. This process definitely changes the flavor to something still reminiscent of the original fruit but has a distinct caramel quality, elevated acidity, and tea-like character.”

– Damien Brockway, Jester King Executive Chef

Provenance Black Lime will release exclusively in the Tasting Room & Kitchen at Jester King Brewery at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 22.  This Limited Release offering will be available in 750ml bottles for the cost of $13 each (limit of two (2) bottles per person per day).  Provenance Black Lime will not see distribution. Iron Fist Brewing Slips Into August with Limited Release of Night Creep Black DIPA

Night_Creep_Press_Can_01Iron Fist Brewing Company (Vista, California) has officially announced that Night Creep Black DIPA will release on August 9 as the 7th installment in the brewery’s Small Batch Experiments Series.

Carefully crafted to set itself apart from the three IPAs already in Iron Fist’s Core lineup as well as in the always IPA-saturated beer scene in the San Diego area, Night Creep is a “dark and different” Black Double India Pale Ale that utilizes an “unusual” yeast strain that “[brings] a distinctive flavor to a DIPA.”  To round off the recipe, the brewing team at Iron Fist used “choice kiln roasted malt [to impart] not only blackness but a mild toast undertone” while a “blend of earthy dank hops and overtones of citrus, floral and pine hops” provide balance. Night Creep comes in at a sneaky 8.5% ABV and 70 IBUs.

“Many DIPA’s have a very perceivable high ABV, so the alcohol comes in quite hot. With Night Creep we set out to create a DIPA that is full bodied, drinkable, that pushes the boundaries of the style without crossing into Stout territory.”

– Tom Garcia, Iron Fist Brewmaster

Night Creep will officially debut on Friday, August 9 in Iron Fist Brewing Company’s Vista and Barrio Logan taprooms.  This Limited Release offering will be available in limited-edition 12 oz. cans and on draft. Motorworks Brewing Sets Release Date for Therianthropy American Wild Ale

motorworkslogoMotorworks Brewing (Bradenton, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Bottle Release for Therianthropy American Wild Ale on Wednesday, August 7.

Born purely out of curiosity, Therianthropy came about when the brewers at Motorworks wanted to see how the souring bacteria from La Couronne Sauvage – the brewery’s “first foray into the world of mixed culture beer” – . . . would assert itself in a small batch of Scottish Ale (the base beer for [the brewery’s] Lavender Ale that was yet to be dosed).” After inoculation and aging for several months, the beer emerged from its barrels boasting “tart, fruity flavors evocative of dried stone fruit that wonderfully complement its smooth, sweet malt base, building a flavor profile not unlike a Flanders Red Ale.”

Therianthropy will debut in Motorworks Brewing’s Taproom (1014 9th Street West | Bradenton, Florida) on August 7 and will stick around only as long as supplies last. This Limited Release offering will be available in 750ml bottles for the price of $18 each. Therianthropy is a Taproom exclusive release that will not see distribution.  Prost!

Southern Grist Brewing Co. Set to Release Batch One Theory: German Chocolate Cake Imperial Stout

SouthernGristlogoOn Saturday, August 3 at 11 a.m., Southern Grist Brewing Co. (Nashville, Tennessee) will host a bottle release at its production facility for two barrel-aged treatments – Bourbon and Rum – of its Batch One Theory: German Chocolate Cake Imperial Stout.

Arriving as the latest installment in Southern Grist’s Batch One Theory (B1T) Series of Barrel-aged Imperial Stouts, both treatments of B1T: German Chocolate Cake start with the same Imperial Oated Sweet Stout base that is then split and aged “for 12 months in both Rum and Heaven Hill bourbon barrels.” To lend the beer all the indulgent goodness one expects to find in an actual German chocolate cake, each barrel-aged beer was then “racked on top of heaps of toasted coconut, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and almonds.”  This lengthy process produces a “rich and decadent” German Chocolate Cake experience “that layers wonderfully with the spirit forward Barrel Aged Stout.” The brewery suggests that you drink Rum B1T: German Chocolate Cake and Bourbon B1T: German Chocolate Cake side-by-side so that you can properly experience “the subtle differences and complexities of the Bourbon and Rum casks.”  Both B1T: German Chocolate Cake treatments weigh in at 12.6% ABV.

The release of Rum B1T: German Chocolate Cake and Bourbon B1T: German Chocolate Cake will take place at 11 a.m. on August 3 at Southern Grist’s production facility (5012 Centennial Blvd. | Nashville, Tennessee) located next to the brewery’s Nations Taproom.  Each bottle will cost $23.61 each (tax included) and Southern Grist plans to set bottle limits at one (1) bottle of Rum B1T: German Chocolate Cake and two (2) bottles of Bourbon B1T: German Chocolate Cake per person.  During the release on Saturday, both beers will also be available on draft at Southern Grist’s East Nashville and Nations Taprooms.
