Marker 48 Brewing to Host ‘3 Years of Beer’ Anniversary Celebration

Marker 48 logo (1)On Saturday, November 17 from noon to close, Marker 48 Brewing (Weeki Wachee, Florida) will celebrate ‘3 Years of Beer’ with a full day of live music on two stages, special beer and bottle releases, and multiple food trucks.

Three years have now passed since the husband-and-wife team of Maurice and Tina Ryman established Marker 48 Brewing as the first production craft brewery in Hernando County. Over that short period of time, they have supplied their fans and community with countless imaginative craft beers, a growing barrel program, a consistent calendar of fun and creative events, and numerous fundraisers that have provided assistance for local nonprofits.  Those first three years have been absolutely amazing, but the future looks even brighter for the Marker 48 family . . . and that is exactly what they will be celebrating on November 17 at their ‘3 Years of Beer’ Anniversary Party.

“Marker 48 is just really getting started,” said Maurice Ryman, Co-founder of Marker 48 Brewing. “Our brewers are always learning and experimenting so we can brew new, amazing creations. You’ll probably see us start pushing the boundaries a bit while continuing to hone our technical prowess and consistency. Additional manufacturing capacity, a bigger distribution footprint and other package formats are all in the works, too.”

But, he added: “Bringing the community together over great beer is and will always be at the forefront of what we do.”

Marker 48 Brewing Commemorates Local Legend with John Reeves Incident Double IPA Beer Release Event

John Reeves Incident Label PhotoBeginning at noon on Sunday, May 27, Marker 48 Brewing (Weeki Wachee, Florida) will add some local lore to its Memorial Day Weekend festivities by hosting the brewery’s 2nd Annual The John Reeves Incident Bottle Release and UFO Celebration.

Did you know that the Brooksville area of Florida that Marker 48 Brewing calls home was once referred to as the “UFO Capital of the World”? It is totally true, and the source of this designation can be tracked back to one encounter in particular: The John Reeves Incident.  The folks at Marker 48 Brewing are very dedicated to increasing awareness of this local legend and that is why they are once again hosting The John Reeves Incident Bottle Release and UFO Celebration on Sunday, May 27.

Between the story of John Reeves, info on the release of The John Reeves Incident Hazy Double IPA and the party itself, we certainly have a lot to go over when it comes to this event.  So, what do you say we just break it all down?

The Basics

What – The John Reeves Incident Double IPA Bottle Release & UFO Celebration
When – Sunday, May 27. Bottle release begins at noon and the party starts at 6:30 p.m.
Where – Marker 48 Brewing | 12147 Cortez Blvd. (S.R. 50) | Weeki Wachee, Florida 34613

The Story

“John Reeves lived in the Brooksville area of Florida and, like many of us, enjoyed traipsing around in the beautiful woodlands of The Nature Coast. Then one day, in 1961, he came upon a saucer-shaped craft parked in the wilderness, with tall, luminous beings near it.

Those beings, it turns out, arrived from the stars, and over the next few years John Reeves befriended them. In fact, in 1968, his alien friends flew him to their base on the far side of our moon, where he spent hours exploring before returning with a small bottle of gray lunar dust and a softball-sized chunk of rock. In doing so, he became the first man to walk on the moon’s surface — a year before Neil Armstrong did it.

Or so the story goes.”

Click here if you would like to read a more detailed account of the John Reeves incident.

The Beer Release

This event will be headlined by the bottle release of The John Reeves Incident Double IPA, a hazy Double India Pale Ale “brewed with Galaxy, Simcoe, and several experimental hops to create a delicious balanced brew with citrus and tropical flavors that might just send your taste buds into outer space.”  A limited number of 750ml bottles of The John Reeves Incident will go on sale for $20 each at noon on May 27.  The John Reeves Incident Double IPA will also be pouring on draft as long as supplies last.

The UFO Celebration

The UFO Party will kick off at 6:30 p.m. when the Texas-based Ally Venable Band takes the stage in Marker 48’s beer garden.  At 9 p.m., there will be an Alien/UFO Costume Contest that will award prizes for best female, best male, and best couple costumes.

In addition to the entertainment, the celebration will also feature the following:

  • A free photo booth set up to snap your own souvenir pics
  • Food trucks BarbieCue, Nina’s Wood Fire Pizza and Nina Cucina Cheesesteaks and Appetizers will be on site to cover any needs in the grub department
  • T-shirts to commemorate Mr. Reeves and his otherworldly friends will be available for purchase

Alright, that should cover all the information currently available on Marker 48’s The John Reeves Incident Bottle Release and UFO Celebration.  If you are in the area and looking for something fun to get into this Memorial Day Weekend, head over to Marker 48 for the unique opportunity to celebrate a real deal, documented alien encounter.  Just make sure that you arrange a safe way home because I am pretty sure that aliens probe those foolish enough to drive impaired.  Prost!

Marker 48 Brewing Introduces Smallbatch Beer Program

marker48beerbookMarker 48 Brewing (Weeki Wachee, Florida) has officially announced the launch of their Smallbatch Beer Program, a new promotion that will feature a new one-off beer during each of the remaining 48 weeks of 2017.

Starting this week, Marker 48 Brewing will begin tapping a series of unique brews and selling a limited number of Smallbatch Beer Books as a part of their Smallbatch Beer Program.  Not only will this promotion allow you to enjoy a new beer each week for the rest of the year, but it also gives you chance to win some amazing prizes.  There are quite a few moving parts to the Smallbatch Beer Program, so let’s break it all down:

The Beers of the Smallbatch Beer Program – The brewers at Marker 48 Brewing and a select group of guest brewers have signed on to create a series of small-batch beers that will be tapped at the brewery each week for the rest of 2017.  These 48 beers are meant to be an exploration of “creative and experimental brewing — everything from sours to barrel-aged beers, and many styles in between.”  Anyone who visits Marker 48 Brewing can order these limited offerings, but those that commit to the Smallbatch Beer Program will have the chance to win some cool prizes at the end of the year.

The Promotional Beer Books of the Smallbatch Beer Program – As of this week, Marker 48 Brewing has begun the sale of a “very limited” amount of Smallbatch Beer Books. These Smallbatch Beer Books grant you “one FREE small-batch beer per week or half-off bomber bottles of the week’s small-batch beers (when available).” For each Smallbatch Beer enjoyed, the brewery will also stamp your Beer Book so that you can track your progress throughout the year.  These Smallbatch Beer Books are $100 each – **Bargain Alert** that works out to roughly $2 per beer **Bargain Alert** – and can be purchased at Marker 48’s tasting room located at 12147 Cortez Blvd, Weeki Wachee, Florida.

The Prizes of the Smallbatch Beer Program – “At the end of the year, those individuals who have all 48 stamps will get an exclusive Marker 48 Smallbatch Beer shirt AND a special 20 oz. glass to be kept in the brewery to receive core beers for the same price as 16 oz. beers.

Depending on the number of stamps required, book holders will also be qualified to win end-of-the-year grand prizes.”

  • Free passport book for 2018 ($100 value)

In order to qualify for the prizes above, you must purchase a Smallbatch Beer Book.

The plan is for the majority of the Smallbatch Beers to be tapped each Wednesday in Marker 48 Brewing’s tasting room.  With that said, things do come up in the brewing process and those beers with “special treatments or other special brewing techniques may be released another day.”  Your best bet is to check Marker 48’s Facebook page or Twitter account each week for up-to-date news concerning each release.  The brewery expects each release to be available for a couple of weeks, but there is no guarantee when it comes to demand for limited release beers.

The first beer of the Smallbatch Beer Program, a treated American Blonde Ale called Peanut Butter and Jellyfish (5.5% ABV), was officially tapped on Sunday, February 5.  Marker 48 Brewing reports that this offering “remains available as of this date.”

At just $100 for a beer a week for the rest of the year, this Smallbatch Beer Program is a no-brainer if you happen to live anywhere near Marker 48 Brewing.  Swing by the tasting room soon to get in on this promotion and start collecting those stamps.  Prost!
