Oskar Blues Brewery Brings Death by Coconut Porter Back for Seasonal Run

OskarBluesDbCPOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has announced that Death by Coconut Irish Style Porter will return in early October 2018 to serve as the brewery’s winter Seasonal.

Back to once again prove that “beer is the perfect dessert”, Death by Coconut is an Irish-style Porter that unites the “bittersweet chocolate flavor” of Cholaca Pure Liquid Cacao with “raw, desiccated coconut and a malt bill based around Simpson’s Extra Dark Crystal.”  This combination of delectable ingredients results in a 6.5% ABV Death by Coconut that offers “a rich, dessert-y flavor with a light, approachable mouthfeel.”

“No false advertising here – it’s as straightforward a chocolate-and-coconut beer as it gets,” said Juice Drapeau, Head Brewer at the Oskar Blues pilot brewery in Lyons. “The chocolate-y malt flavors and coconut aroma and flavor are nicely balanced, and it’s not as viscous as a stout, which makes it more palatable.”

Death by Coconut will return in early October and hang around throughout the months of winter.  You can expect to find this Seasonal offering available in 4-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at craft beer-friendly establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Texas and throughout the rest of Oskar Blues Brewery’s nationwide distribution area.  Prost!

The CANarchy Mixed Pack – VOL. 1 marks the first time that the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective – a group of craft breweries who have come together to stay independent – has represented four CANarchy breweries in one box.  The first in what is sure to be a rotating series of 12-pack compilations, CANarchy Mixed Pack – VOL. 1 contains the following “assortment of CANarchist brews” (descriptions sourced from press release):

The CANarchy Mixed Pack – VOL. 1 contains three (3) 12 oz. cans of each beer listed above. This new mixed 12-pack will begin hitting craft beer shelves in North Carolina and Florida on September 1 and wider distribution is expected “soon”.  Prost!

Oskar Blues Brewery Upgrades CANundrum Variety Pack to 15 Cans

OBCanundrum2Oskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has officially announced that its CANundrum variety pack, now a mixed 15-pack thanks to the addition of G’Knight Imperial Red IPA, will head out for distribution on September 1.

Previously released by Oskar Blues as a 12-pack, CANundrum is back and this time it is sporting three 12 oz. cans of each of the following “five straight-shooting brews” (descriptions sourced from the brewery’s website):

  • Dale’s Pale Ale – Dale’s Pale Ale is our defiant, proud, voluminously hopped mutha of a pale ale. If you’re looking for a fistful of flavor, look no further than this hopped-up trail ride. It delivers a hoppy nose and assertive-but-balanced flavors of pale malts and citrusy floral hops from the first sip to the final swig (6.5 % ABV and 65 IBUs). Dale’s Pale Ale is the beer that started it all.
  • Mama’s Little Yella Pils – Yaya raised a rebel who grew up to have dirt on his face, sweat on his brow, and beer in his blood. That’s why Mama’s Little Yella Pils is an uncompromising, hand crafted version of the great Pilsner beers of Bavaria and Bohemia. Unlike mass market pilsners diluted with corn and rice, Mama’s is built on pilsner and honey malt then hopped with Saaz and Aramis hops. While it’s rich with flavor, its 33 IBUs and 4.7% ABV make it a luxurious but low-dose (by Oskar Blues standards) refresher. It’s damn good, crushable beer. Take two and call us in the morning.
  • Pinner Throwback IPA – PINNER Throwback IPA is as close as you’re ever gonna get to tasting some twisted up calm in the Oskar Blues chaos. We crammed so much damn aroma—and boatloads of hop & malt flavor—into this beer, but we kept it crushable too. At 4.9% ABV and 35 IBUs, this edgy-yet-easygoing, drinkable IPA uses an array of hops to target its ever-evolving flavor. With tropical fruits, citrus juices, pineapple and spice berry up front in the aroma and flavor, the biscuit & toasted bread at the back balance out all the hops and make for a great finish just in time to blaze on to your next can of PINNER.
  • Oskar Blues IPA – Trailblazers don’t torch a new passageway and then stop; they keep finding new ways in and new ways back out. That’s exactly what we did with our metamodern IPA conceived of hand-selected hops from down under. Malt barley and red wheat combine to create a clean malt backbone with a foolproof flavor and mouthfeel to support America’s sneak peek at Enigma, Vic Secret, Ella and Galaxy hops. The hops strum juicy and sweet aromas with headline notes of passion fruit, raspberries, pineapple and citrus. This intense, straight-up strain is Oskar Blues IPA (6.43% ABV). Smash a Blue Ferrigno… and it’ll smash back.
  • G’Knight Imperial Red IPA (in a mixed pack for the first time) – Our ‘Velvet M-80’ is a hefty, dry hopped double-red IPA with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors. G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown.

The CANundrum Variety 15-pack will begin hitting shelves on September 1, 2018.  You can expect to find this mixed pack at craft beer-friendly retailers located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Texas and throughout the rest of Oskar Blues Brewery’s nationwide distribution area.  Prost!

Oskar Blues Brewery Goes Year-Round with Hotbox Coffee Porter

OBHotboxpourOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has announced that Hotbox Coffee Porter will return on August 4, and this time it is here to stay as the brewery’s newest Year-Round offering.

Brewed with a sizable malt bill that includes “seven varieties . . . led by CaraAroma”, Hotbox Coffee Porter starts life as a “hugely malty, medium-bodied porter” that offers notes of “chocolate, fig, plum, espresso, burnt sugar, caramel, and marshmallow.”  Hotbox Coffee Porter is then “[rearranged] into a coffee colossus” with the addition of “a super-concentrated cold brew” that Hotbox Roasters formulated from a “blend of beans from South America (Columbia, Honduras and Guatemala).”  With the malt bill perfectly balancing the coffee’s “flavors of tobacco, chocolate, wood and earthiness”, Hotbox Coffee Porter (6.4% ABV) comes together to be a “roasty, malty, wake-up-call of a porter” that is “not too sweet.”

“We brew two pounds of coffee to one gallon of water and then steep it for 36 hours,” said Noe Lopez, Head Roaster at Hotbox Roasters. “It adds massive coffee and chocolate flavor to the beer.” Hotbox Roasters donated the leftover Cold Brew to NASA to use as rocket fuel.

Hotbox Coffee Porter will officially release on August 4 with a series of kickoff events going down in Austin, Texas; Brevard, North Carolina; Longmont, Colorado; and Boulder, Colorado. It will then hit craft beer-friendly spots located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Texas and throughout the rest Oskar Blues Brewery’s nationwide distribution area.  Look for Hotbox Coffee Porter to be available in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft.  Prost!

Oskar Blues Brewery Schedules Release Events for Bourbon Barrel-Aged Mocha Ten FIDY

MochaTenFIDY_edited.jpgOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has officially announced that it will release a very limited amount of Bourbon Barrel-Aged Mocha Ten FIDY Imperial Stout on July 7 at the Oskar Blues Taproom locations in Boulder, Colorado; Longmont, Colorado; and Brevard, North Carolina.

Just as the name would lead you to believe, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Mocha Ten FIDY starts with a base of the O.G. Ten FIDY Imperial Stout that is then “massively doused with unsweetened pure liquid cacao made by [Oskar Blues Brewery’s] friends at Cholaca, then dosed with Hotbox Roasters’ cold brew from Mexican coffee beans.”  With that much chocolaty goodness involved, it is no wonder why the brewery scheduled the release of Bourbon Barrel-Aged Mocha Ten FIDY Imperial Stout on National Chocolate Day (July 7).

“Ten FIDY Imperial Stout doesn’t know how to use its inside voice in the first place; and on this one, we hooked it up to a Cholaca-and-coffee amplifier and turned the volume up to 11,” said Tim Matthews, Head of Brewing Operations for Oskar Blues.

Bourbon Barrel-Aged Mocha Ten FIDY Imperial Stout will officially release on Saturday, July 7 and will be available in Oskar Blues’ Boulder, Longmont and Brevard taprooms only.  Here is the full breakdown on how Oskar Blues plans to handle the release:

Numbered wristbands will be handed out at 9:30am but a line may begin to form much earlier. Wristbands will allow folks to (reasonably) wander without losing their place in line. Each wristband has a number on it, and yes that number does matter. Beer will be sold in order according to the number system so Mocha seekers must be present when their number is called. Each person may purchase up to five cases of BA Mocha Ten FIDY. 19.2 oz cans come in 12-count cases. If there are cans left at 3pm (both MST and EST), a “No Limit” rule kicks in and peeps will be able to purchase to their hearts’ content . . .  All sales (draft and cans) will begin at 10am. A limited amount of BA Mocha Ten FIDY will be on draft, 10 ounces at a time.

PRICING:

  • 4 oz pour on DRAFT = $4
  • 10 oz pour on DRAFT = $10
  • One 19.2 oz CAN of Mocha BA Ten FIDY = $15
  • One CASE (12 CANs) = $180

Crowler and/or growler fills will not be available, and Bourbon Barrel-Aged Mocha Ten FIDY Imperial Stout will not see distribution.  That means you only have a shot to land this decadent treat if you hit up one of these three Oskar Blues taprooms on July 7 to enjoy a pour on draft and/or secure your stash of cans.  Be sure to plan accordingly because this brew will move with a quickness.  Prost!

Oskar Blues Brewery Brings FUGLI IPA Back for the Summer

FUGLIIPAcan_editedOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has officially announced that FUGLI Yuzu & Ugli Fruit IPA is heading out to craft beer shelves and taps to serve as the brewery’s Summer Seasonal.

Originally inspired by a collaboration Oskar Blues brewed with Japan’s Yo-Ho Brewing Company, FUGLI IPA is a “citrusy, fresh and aromatic” India Pale Ale that is packing an interesting mix of Japanese Yuzu, Jamaican Ugli Fruit, and Rangpur from Bangladesh.  Since these are not typical household fruits for most, here is a quick breakdown on these ingredients (descriptions sourced from the press release):

  • Yuzu is an exotic, tangy yet rough-looking lemon from Japan.
  • Living up to its name, the Ugli Fruit is a Jamaican form of tangelo, a cross between grapefruit, orange and tangerine.
  • Rangpur is a lemon and mandarin orange hybrid with a strong lemon-lime flavor.

These exotic citrus fruits blend seamlessly with the “blueberry, tangerine notes of Mosaic” hops to yield a “fuggin’ crushable” FUGLI IPA (5.8% ABV, 60 IBUs) that is the perfect pairing “for your favorite backyard grillin’, park-chillin’, frisbee-flingin’, beer-drinkin’ season.”

“FUGLI is a beer-drinker’s fruited IPA,” explained Kenny Jackson, the Head Brewer at Oskar Blues’ Longmont brewery. “It’s foremost an IPA, with the complexity of the mosaic hops really coming through. Combined with the fruit infusion and a simple malt bill, this beer is balanced and drinkable.”

FUGLI IPA will officially release on April 13 with plans to hang around through August 2018.  You can find this Seasonal brew available in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at craft beer retailers, bars and restaurants located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Texas and throughout the rest of Oskar Blues Brewery’s distribution footprint.  Prost!

Oskar Blues Brewery Set for National Release of Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY

BATenFIDYOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado & Brevard, North Carolina) recently announced that it will begin the limited release of Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY on November 11.

The long-standing and highly-respected Ten FIDY Imperial Stout is once again experiencing a bit of an upgrade after the brewers at Oskar Blues decided to lovingly “[stash] it in a blend of Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill bourbon barrels for a minimum of eight months.”  Now roused from its rest, the limited release Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY (12.9% ABV) has emerged as “a cool and drinkable concoction that gets more complex with each sip.”

“Aged through four seasons and from a blend of the top bourbons around, this Ten FIDY has morphed into a monster of cranked up flavor,” said Head of Brewing Operations Tim Matthews. “This stout is loaded with inimitable flavors consisting of espresso, burnt sugar, rich chocolate and caramel notes, which are combined with the vanilla, oak and bourbon flavors that have been smoothed out from maturation.”

Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY will officially release on November 11 and hang around while supplies last.  You can look for this Limited Release offering to be available in 19.2 oz. stovepipe cans and on draft at select craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Texas and throughout the rest of Oskar Blues Brewery’s nationwide distribution area.  Prost!

Oskar Blues Brewery to Introduce FUGLI IPA as Summer Seasonal

FUGLIIPAcan_editedOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has announced that FUGLI Yuzu & Ugli Fruit IPA is scheduled for release beginning on May 5 as the brewery’s newest summer Seasonal offering.

To supply the craft beer community with an exotic and refreshing option during the warm weather months, the folks at Oskar Blues have developed FUGLI IPA with a recipe headlined by the following three fruits:

  • Yuzu – “an exotic, tangy dumpy looking lemon from Japan”
  • Jamaican Ugli Fruit – “an aesthetic nightmare with a surprisingly tasty tangerine-and-grapefruit flavor”
  • Rangpur –  a lemon and orange hybrid grown in Bangladesh

Perfectly complementing the beer’s Mosaic hops and reserved malt bill, these obscure citrus fruits create a “crisp and clean” American India Pale Ale that is “not too bitter, and not too fruity.” At just 5.8% ABV and 60 IBUs, FUGLI IPA proves to be an incredibly easy drinking offering that is “top of the list for outdoor day-drinking.”

“FUGLI was inspired by a collaboration with Japan’s Yo-Ho Brewing Company that everyone here loved,” said Tim Matthews, Head of Brewing Operations at Oskar Blues. “We felt we could take it to another level so we added more fruits, paired them with zesty mosaic hops, and started messing around with a light malt bill that gives a full mouthfeel.”

FUGLI IPA will officially launch at the start of May with the following release parties hosted by the three taprooms of Oskar Blues:

Beyond these three release parties, this seasonal offering will also be available nationwide from May to August 2017.  When released, you will be able to find FUGLI IPA in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at craft beer establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Texas and throughout the rest of Oskar Blues Brewery’s expansive distribution network.  Get yourself some FUGLI IPA and “let the jorts-wearin’, backyard-grillin’, yard-loungin’, frisbee-tossin’ beer-drinkin’ season commence.”  Prost!

GUBNA Imperial IPA Makes Annual Return for Oskar Blues Brewery

gubna_hires.pngOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has officially announced that this year’s release of GUBNA Imperial IPA will not only be rocking its annual change in hop bill, but it’s availability has also been shifted to draft-only for national distribution.

Ever-evolving as a disestablishmentarian representation of dankness, GUBNA Imperial IPA reinvents itself by annually changing its hop bill in an effort to showcase only “the best and brightest of these powerful flowers.”  For this year’s release, sensory panels from all three Oskar Blues breweries – Longmont, Colorado; Brevard, North Carolina; and Austin, Texas – worked “with hop growers to seek out the most potent, unique and mind-bending hop varietals of the season.”  After much deliberation, this “eccentric fellowship of deranged brewers” hand-selected a blend of Azacca, Crystal and Sterling hops to sit on the beer’s signature base of Munich, North American Pale, and Rye malts.  This combination results in a 100 IBU, 10% ABV Imperial India Pale Ale that entices its drinker with “big zesty lime and orange flavors, with a spicy/herbal sweet aroma and all the dank . . . [expected] from the intense hop load.”

“The traditional hops beat out some newer, experimental varietals this year, which surprised many of us here at OB,” said Tim Matthews, Head of Brewing Operations. “But the hops just spoke to the nearly 100 employees that participated in GUBNA hop selection and we must obey the rub.”

“In an effort to preserve GUBNA’s finest quality, the freshness of its hops,” the 2017 release of GUBNA Imperial IPA will only be available as a draft-only offering across the country.  12 oz. cans of GUBNA will only be available for to-go purchase at Oskar Blues Tasty Weasel Taproom locations in Colorado and North Carolina.  While supplies last, you can expect to find GUBNA Imperial IPA pouring from March to May at craft beer establishments in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Texas and throughout the rest of Oskar Blues Brewery’s national distribution footprint.  Each year’s release of GUBNA proves to be a unique experience and rarely lasts long, so make sure that you order up a pour the next time you spot it on a tap list.  Prost!

Oskar Blue Brewery and Hotbox Roasters Collaborate to Create Hotbox Coffee IPA

hotboxcoffeeipabanner_editedOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has officially announced that Hotbox Coffee IPA will arrive in March as the brewery’s new spring Seasonal.

To take their coffee-infused beer collaborations to another level, Oskar Blues Brewery and Hotbox Roasters have decided to move in a more hop-centric direction this time around with the creation of Hotbox Coffee IPA.  This new seasonal starts with an American India Pale Ale foundation built from notes of “pine, citrus and mango from Simcoe hops.” The beer is then dosed with cold brew extract made from Ethiopian coffee beans – “sourced from a family farm in the East African nation exclusively for this beer” – to impart added tones of “cream, blueberry and cocoa.”  This all results in a 7.2% ABV, coffee-laced hop bomb that truly makes “strange bedfellows of uppers and downers.”

“We believe the citrus and fruit aromatics of an IPA, derived from the intense hops, pair well with the fruit of the coffee to produce a great, flavor-packed beer,” said Tim Matthews, head of brewing operations at Oskar Blues Brewery. “The combination of coffee and hops in the Hotbox IPA serve to compliment and reinforce the delicious flavors and aromas both offer in this match up.”

Hotbox Coffee IPA will make its official debut at the following three, simultaneous release parties hosted by the taprooms of Oskar Blues:

If you cannot make it to the launch events listed above, do not fret because this offering will then be sent out for distribution beginning in March.  Hotbox Coffee IPA will be available in 4-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at craft beer-friendly establishments in Alabama, Florida and the remaining 48 states that comprise the Oskar Blues distribution network.  Although this Spring Seasonal will officially be available until May, you should not expect this one to last long on the shelves of your local beer shop.  Grab ’em when you see ’em.  Prost!
