Three Taverns Brewery & Good Word Brewing Collaborate on Three Words DIPA

ThreeTavernsGoodWordThree Taverns Craft Brewery (Decatur, Georgia) and Good Word Brewing (Duluth, Georgia) have officially announced that they will both begin the Limited Release of Three Words, a collaboration Double IPA brewed with South African hops, on April 16.

Inspired by the long friendship and love for IPAs shared by Brian Purcell, Founder of Three Taverns Craft Brewery, and Todd DiMatteo, Owner and Brewer at Good Word Brewing, Three Words is a Hazy/Juicy Double India Pale Ale brewed with Southern Star and Southern Passion hops from South Africa.  Coming in at 8% ABV, Three Words features a “soft yet full mouthfeel with delicious flavor undertones of guava and passionfruit.”

“When considering the name I was reminded of a Robert Frost quote, ‘in three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.’ Both the name and the meaning seemed a perfect message for times such as these. And it captures the essence of our friendship, it goes on.”

– Brian Purcell, Founder of Three Taverns Craft Brewery

And when we did finally decide to brew a beer together, an IPA was the natural choice.”

Jester King Brewery Issues a Love Letter to Lager with Release of Unfiltered Pilsner

JesterkinglogoJester King Brewery (Austin, Texas) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Jester King Unfiltered Pilsner, the brewery’s first ever pale lager in cans, on Wednesday, April 8.

Meant to embrace a brewer’s love for lager and all the good things that come from “patience and simplicity,” Jester King Unfiltered Pilsner was brewed with “a wort with Hill Country well water (which [the brewery] softened), White Horn Pilsner Malt from [Jester King’s] friends at Blacklands Malt, and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops.” The patience mentioned above surfaces in this beer in two ways:

  • The brewers employed “a single decoction mash, which involves removing part of the main mash and cooking it separately for a period of time, in an effort to yield malt complexity and melanoidin production.”
  • The brewers then “fermented the wort with German lager yeast from Community Cultures Yeast Lab in San Antonio, then lagered the beer for six weeks in a horizontal dairy tank.”

Just as its name suggests, Jester King Unfiltered Pilsner was left unfiltered and unpasteurized and clocks in at 5.1% ABV.

Jester King Unfiltered Pilsner will debut at Jester King Brewery at noon on April 8 (if you are local to the brewery, you can set up your drive through pickup by clicking here or by calling 512-661-8736), and limited distribution is expected to begin shortly after that date.  You can expect to find this Limited Release offering available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans at select craft beer-focused establishments located within Jester King’s distribution footprint.  Prost!

Fun Fact – A note on lagers from Jester King: “Like a lot of brewers and beer geeks, pale lagers have had a special place in our hearts for a long time. For instance, when we receive a box of beer from our brewer friends in other parts of the world, it’s usually the pale lagers that get picked through the fastest. We remember waiting on our loading dock for our first ever shipment of Live Oak Pilz cans to arrive at Jester King and celebrating the moment. At beer festivals, we’re quick to locate the breweries pouring Pilsner or Helles. In central Texas, we’re pretty spoiled to be home to some of the best lager brewers in the country.”

TBBW 2020 Event: J&B 20/20 IPA Can Release, a Jug & Bottle Dept. & Hidden Springs Ale Works Collaboration

JugBottleHSAWJug & Bottle Dept. (Tampa, Florida) has officially announced that it will be breaking out the good stuff for Tampa Bay Beer Week 2020 when it hosts a Limited Can Release for J&B 20/20, a supremely classy malt beverage brewed in collaboration with Hidden Springs Ale Works (Tampa, Florida), at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10.

The result of Hidden Springs Ale Works and Jug & Bottle Dept.’s mutual aspiration to create “a malt beverage worthy of its own chain,” J&B 20/20 is a double dry-hopped India Pale Ale featuring “Sabro and Vic Secret hops as well as a healthy dose of blue spirulina.”  Although the spirulina does not contribute any flavor, this pivotal ingredient “does impart a shade of blue similar to everyone’s favorite neon blue gas station wine.”  That’s right . . . J&B 20/20 is a DDH IPA that is both hazy AND blue.

Cans of J&B 20/20 will officially release at Jug & Bottle Dept. New Realm Brewing Turns Doomsday Hound Loose for Another Limited Release

newrealmlogo2New Realm Brewing Company (Atlanta, Georgia) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Doomsday Hound Russian Imperial Stout on Tuesday, March 3.

Breaking “its chains once again and . . . ready to unleash its wrath for a third time,” Doomsday Hound is a Russian Imperial Stout that has “a deep black color and a thick brown foamy head.” Coming in at a beastly 9.5% ABV, the “viciously flavorful” Doomsday Hound “sinks its teeth into you upon the first sip, with intense, full body, roasted coffee and cocoa flavors.”

“This is the third anniversary of the release of our Doomsday Hound Russian Imperial Stout. It’s exciting to see how the brand has grown over the years and has now become one of our most sought-after beers – and for good reason,” said Bob Powers, COO and Co-Founder of New Realm Brewing.

“I love the Imperial Stout style, it’s a fantastic beer to drink all winter long. Doomsday Hound is a great recipe which uses a large amount of English malts and it was one of the first high ABV beers we ever brewed at New Realm. In addition, it’s a great beer for aging in barrels, hint, hint.” said Mitch Steele, Brewmaster and Co-Founder of New Realm Brewing.

Doomsday Hound will officially hit New Realm’s Atlanta and Virginia Beach locations on March 3 (you can pre-order cans by visiting the brewery’s CraftCellr pages: Atlanta location | Virginia location) and limited distribution will follow shortly after the on-site releases.  You can expect to find this Limited Release available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans and on draft at select craft beer-focused establishments located within New Realm’s distribution footprint in Georgia and Virginia.  Prost!
