Heavy Seas Beer Brings the Local Flavor with Taproom Release of Bmore Snoball Egg Custard Blonde Ale

BmoreSnoballSquareHeavy Seas Beer (Baltimore, Maryland) has officially announced that it will release Bmore Snoball, an Egg Custard Blonde Ale, as its newest Taproom Exclusive on Friday, July 26.

“Egg Custard” might seem like an interesting flavor choice for a Limited Release Blonde Ale, but Bmore Snoball has local history behind it as it is inspired by “the original snoball flavor of Baltimore that was introduced when ice was first made available for commercial use during the Industrial Revolution.” As ice blocks were transported across the East Coast during that time, many of those shipments passed through Baltimore. Children in the area would often request ice shavings to cool them off during the summer months, and their mothers eventually “decided to start making syrups to flavor the ice by using a recipe of vanilla, sugar, and eggs. Today, the flavor is just named Egg Custard and is simply a golden colored vanilla syrup (it does not taste like eggs).”

Now that we are all caught up on the history and inspiration behind Bmore Snoball (5.5% ABV), here’s what the brewery has to say about what you can expect from the beer itself:

“We used imported, nutty Maris Otter Pale malt as the base for this Blonde Ale inspired by the classic Baltimore summer treat,” says Heavy Seas Brewmaster, Christopher Leonard. “A touch of Munich Malt provides a hint of bready character to go with a whisper of Strisselspalt hops. To replicate the Egg Custard Snoball flavor, we’ve added vanilla (LOTS of vanilla!) and just a touch of nutmeg and cinnamon. The result is a beer with a comforting aroma, a sweet dessert-like start and a surprisingly soft finish.”

Bmore Snoball will make its debut on July 26 in the Heavy Seas Tap Room. This Taproom Exclusive offering will be available for purchase in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans and on draft.  Bmore Snoball will not see distribution.  Prost!

Marker 48 Brewing Saves Spring Release Imperial IPA for the Summer

Marker 48 logo (1)Marker 48 Brewing (Weeki Wachee, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of its Spring Release Barrel-aged IPA (2019) on Saturday, July 13.

Previously released in 2016 and 2017 as a springtime treat, Spring Release Barrel-aged IPA is set to return a little later in the year this time around.  The “Spring” descriptor may seem a bit confusing for a beer releasing during the summer, but it remains applicable because this Imperial India Pale Ale – brewed with El Dorado, Ella and Citra hops – was “aged underwater in a local freshwater spring in Early Times Kentucky Whiskey barrels for 48 days.” The 2019 iteration of Spring Release Barrel-aged IPA comes in at a smooth-sippin’ 8.5% ABV.
