Hidden Springs Ale Works Pulls New Card from Tarot Series, Reveals The Tower

Hidden Springs Ale Works (Tampa, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of The Tower, a French Toast-inspired Imperial Stout, on Thursday, August 13.

Arriving as the second release in Hidden Springs’ new series of non-barrel-aged Imperial Stouts, The Tower is an Imperial Stout that captures the essence of French Toast thanks to ample additions of maple syrup and cinnamon. Symbolizing “a new dawn in our new reality,” The Tower is “sweet, thick, and a comforting, familiar flavor contrast to the uncertainty of today.”

Bottles of The Tower will release exclusively on the Hidden Springs Ale Works website at 4 p.m. on August 13. Here are the full details and rules surrounding this release (as posted on the brewery’s social media accounts):

  • 22 oz. bottles of The Tower are $25 each
  • Bottle limit is set at 2 per person (if you order more than the allotment, your purchase will be REFUNDED and CANCELLED)
  • Bottles will be ready for pickup during regular business hours Friday 8/14 – Friday 8/21. You will have to choose a pickup date and time at checkout. Your order will be ready that day ONLY. If you need to reschedule your pickup, please EMAIL the brewery at info@hiddenspringsaleworks.com (Hidden Springs is NOT able to reschedule your pickup from DMs on social media).
  • For the safety of the community and to maintain social distancing standards established by the CDC, the brewery will be allowing PROXIES for this release. It helps to cut down the amount of bodies coming in and out of the Tasting Room at a single time. Yes. PROXIES ARE A GO!
  • To pickup your bottles you must have the correct name, order number, and ID (gotta make sure you’re old enough), also, make sure it’s the right day.

One more time for clarification: The Tower will be sold exclusively online. There will be no walk-up sales or distribution. If you wish to get your hands on a bottle or two of this offering, just make sure that you are on the Hidden Springs Ale Works website at 4 p.m. on August 13 because this Limited Release is guaranteed to sell out with a quickness. Perrin Brewing Company (Comstock Park, Michigan) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Rhu-Awakening on August 20.

Dropping as the newest release in Perrin’s Side Hustle Series of innovative brews, Rhu-Awakening is a Kettle Sour Ale that “balances the tartness of Rhubarb with the sweetness of Strawberry to give your mouth a nice thirst-quenching kick!” Coming in at 6% ABV, Rhu-Awakening is here to help you “celebrate the end of summer with a timeless flavor combination.”

Stone Brewing (Escondido, California) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Wizards & Gargoyles, a Hazy Coffee IPA collaboration with Modern Times (San Diego, California), in August 2020.

Brewed to stand as an “achievement of collaborative awesomeness between two San Diego craft beer trailblazers,” Wizards & Gargoyles is a Hazy/Juicy India Pale Ale that features “Centennial, Cashmere, Citra and Azacca hops . . . joined by two in-development hops, giving juicy notes of tropical citrus that play beautifully with the robust flavors and aromas of the coffee, supplied by Modern Times’ caffeination masters.” Weighing in at 7% ABV and 51 IBUs, Wizards & Gargoyles “is a beer as wonderfully unique as the two breweries that created it.”

Wizards & Gargoyles is rolling out in Southern California this week and will enter nationwide distribution on August 24. Escape Brewing Company Set to Release Cans of Trois 2.0 Tropical IPA

Escape Brewing Company (Trinity, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Can Release of Trois 2.0 on Wednesday, August 12.

Back with a revamped recipe and a slightly tweaked name, Trois 2.0 is a Hazy/Juicy India Pale Ale that sources all of its pineapple and tropical fruit flavors from the selected hops and yeast strain (“No pineapples were harmed/used in the making of this awesome beer”). Coming in at 7.2% ABV, Trois 2.0 is “a sweet smelling, juicy, thick hazy hop bomb that transports you straight to paradise.”

Trois 2.0 will release in the Taproom at Escape Brewing Company on August 12. This Limited Release offering will be available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans as long as supplies last. Trois 2.0 is a brewery-only release and is not expected to see distribution. Prost!

Cascade Brewing Packages Honey Ginger Lime & Honeycot in Cans for First Time

Cascade Brewing (Portland, Oregon) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release Honey Ginger Lime and Honeycot on Friday August 7.

Known to be two of Cascade Brewing’s most popular Northwest Sour Ales at its Portland-area pubs, Honey Ginger Lime and Honeycot will now finally be packaged for the “first time in the brewery’s history” and venture out for full distribution. Here’s the full rundown on these two incredibly thirst-quenching brews (descriptions sourced directly from the brewery’s press release):

  • Honey Ginger Lime – A sour rye ale aged in oak barrels and foudres for up to 10 months with candied ginger and lime zest, followed by a late infusion of fresh ginger, more lime and local wildflower honey. Lightly sour with a kiss of honey sweetness, Honey Ginger Lime offers an ideal balance of complexity and refreshment. ABV – 6%
  • Honeycot – A sour blond ale aged in oak wine barrels for up to 16 months with fresh Northwest-grown apricots and a late addition of local wildflower honey. ABV – 7.1%

Flying Dog Brewery Comes out Swingin’ with Limited Release of Vicious Hook Sour Ale

Flying Dog Brewery (Frederick, Maryland) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Vicious Hook, the brewery’s first major sour release, in early August 2020.

Named after a boxing term that “[references] the beer’s sweet start that finishes with a savage jolt of sourness and hits like a heavyweight,” Vicious Hook is a fruited Sour Ale that “delivers on its fruit punch promise” thanks to additions of blood orange, cherry and pineapple. Coming in at just 5.3% ABV, the “extremely approachable” Vicious Hook “is a one-two combo of sweet and tart that stuns you with a pucker punch.”

“I think we all grew up drinking fruit punch in the summer, hiding in the shade, trying not to melt. Well, we made a delicious adult version of that and gave it a little extra oomph,” said James Maravetz, VP of Marketing for Flying Dog Brewery. “This punch definitely earned its name.”

Vicious Hook officially released on August 3 and will be available for a limited time. Tröegs Independent Brewing (Hershey, Pennsylvania) has officially announced that it will begin the Seasonal Release of Lucky Holler Hazy IPA in August 2020.

Arriving as the latest release in the brewery’s Hop Cycle line-up of seasonally rotating IPAs and heavily “inspired by the brewery’s annual pilgrimage to the Pacific Northwest for hop selection,” Lucky Holler is a Hazy/Juicy India Pale Ale that “[explores] the intersection of Simcoe, Citra and the Australian hop Galaxy.” This carefully selected combination of hops “delivers bright waves of ripe pineapple and tropical gummies on the nose, layered with notes of juicy citrus and ripe passionfruit.” Coming in at 6.8% ABV, Lucky Holler is “a hazy, hoppy harvest ale that’s so good you’ll wanna holler!”

“We go to Yakima to select hops for the beers that everybody knows and loves,” says Tröegs brewmaster and cofounding brother John Trogner. “Beers like Perpetual IPA, Nimble Giant and Nugget Nectar. And we’re also open to discovering new hops or combinations that might inspire us, an ‘a-ha’ moment where a new recipe starts taking shape.”

Lucky Holler is rolling out now and will be available throughout the months of fall. Double Branch Artisanal Ales (Wesley Chapel, Florida) has officially announced that 19.2 oz. cans of Vintage Band T and Hippie Kids Tripping on Acid, the first two Limited Releases in the brewery’s Smoothie Talker Series of Smoothie-style Sour Ales, are available now exclusively at the brewery.

Developed to give Tampa-area beer lovers all the Smoothie-style love they can handle, Double Branch’s Smoothie Talker Series is making its formal introductions with the following two highly limited offerings:

Underground Mountain Brown Returns to Founders Brewing Co.’s Barrel-Aged Series

Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan) has officially announced that Underground Mountain Brown will be back for an encore release in the brewery’s Barrel-Aged Series in early September 2020.

First introduced last year as a part of Founders Brewing Co.’s 2019 Barrel-Aged Series lineup, Underground Mountain Brown is a “barrel-aged version of the brewery’s since-retired Imperial Brown Ale, Sumatra Mountain Brown.” Clocking in at slow-sipping 11.9% ABV, Underground Mountain Brown allows its team of malts [to] complement the bold Sumatra coffee perfectly while time spent immersed in oak creates layers of depth and complexity.”

“Underground Mountain Brown is a fantastic example of our use of coffee in beer-making,” said Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki. “Using an imperial brown ale as a base for the earthy and rich Sumatra coffee allows the coffee flavor to shine while adding the perfect complement of sweetness. Add in the extra layer of depth from barrel aging and you get an extremely complex yet approachable beer.”

The 2020 batch of Underground Mountain Brown will hit Founders Brewing Co.’s Grand Rapids and Detroit taprooms on September 2 and distribution is scheduled to begin later that month. Second Self Beer Company (Atlanta, Georgia) has officially announced that it will add Game Night Hazy IPA to its Year-Round lineup in early August 2020.

Meant to capture the vibe found within “late nights of carefree gaming back in a time when all we cared about was remembering the cheat code for unlimited lives,” Game Night is Hazy/Juicy India Pale Ale that uses Citra, Mosaic and Centennial hops to build “an aroma and flavor profile of papaya, mango, and citrus.” Coming in at 6.1% ABV, the “simple – yet intricate” Game Night is “balanced, with a soft mouthfeel thanks to barley, oats, and wheat.”

“Retro video games are kind of our thing. There are some old school arcade games and an NES 64 in our taproom, and we’ve had video game-themed beers before,” said Jason Santamaria, Second Self’s co-founder and chief beer architect. “We are leaning in and just letting our geek flag fly. Game Night pairs perfectly with all kinds of contests – a marathon Catan session, darts, poker night, or kicking around a soccer ball.”

Game Night will officially debut at Second Self’s taproom in Atlanta’s West Midtown on August 8 and distribution in Georgia will begin the week of August 10.
