Funky Buddha Brewery Unveils 2019 Release Schedule

cosmicwebmock2019Just when you thought it was over, the unrelenting beer calendar blitz sneaks back in at the end of the week with a look at the 2019 Release Schedule from Funky Buddha Brewery (Oakland Park, Florida).

As is the case with all beer calendars around here, we have published Funky Buddha’s full 2019 Release Schedule below for you to study whenever you happen to have a spare moment.  With that said, we typically try to keep any highlights as brief as possible, but these will be a bit more lengthy due to the fact that Funky Buddha is seriously going all out this year by introducing a plethora of new offerings, beer series and packaging formats.  These are all incredibly good things that you should be stoked to find out, so let’s get at it:

  • Debuting in March, the Box of Buddhas Mixed 12-pack of 12 oz. cans will include “three each of FloridianHop Gun, and Vibin’; plus three cans of an exclusive rotating seasonal from memory lane that will not be available in any other packaging. I Want It Now! will be the first to hit the pack in Spring before bringing back Blueberry Cobbler and Sweet Potato Casserole as the year goes on.”  Claiming the distinction of being Funky Buddha’s first ever variety 12-pack, The Box of Buddhas will be available Year-Round.
  • Transitioning to 6-packs of 12 oz. cans in 2019, this year’s Goodness Series will include the following Seasonal releases: Cosmic Journey, a Hazy IPA with guava, papaya, and mosaic hops (February – May); Key Lime Pie Tart, a Berliner-style wheat ale with key lime juice, cinnamon, and vanilla (May – August); Bonita Applebum, an Apple pie-inspired brown ale with apples, cinnamon, and vanilla (August – October); and Last Snow, a Porter with coconut and coffee (October – December).
  • 2019 will see the launch of Funky Buddha’s Mixology Series, a lineup of Limited Release offerings that “recreate classic cocktails by using alternate fermentables, natural ingredients, and barrel-aging techniques.”  The 2019 Mixology Series will include Manhattan Double Rye Ale, a blend of Whiskey barrel-aged double rye ale and Wine barrel-aged Belgian ale with herbs and botanicals (February – May); Margarita Gose, a Tequila barrel-aged gose with agave nectar, lime juice, and sea salt (May – August); White Sangria Saison, a Chardonnay barrel-aged saison with grape must, apples, and peaches (August – October); and Zombie Ale, a Rum barrel-aged red ale with fruits and spices (October – January).
  • Juicy Smalls, an East-side IPA with Denali, Mosaic and Amarillo hops, will join the Little Buddha Small Batch Series in June.  This Limited Release brew will be packaged in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans.
  • S’More To Love, a Smoked Porter with cacao nibs, cinnamon and vanilla, will turn up in September as another new Little Buddha Small Batch brew.  This one will be available in single 16 oz. cans.
  • The brewery’s Living Barrel Series will see a new addition in December: Mocha Smuggler, a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Porter with cacao nibs, coffee, and vanilla.  Mocha Smuggler – and all other Living Barrel Series releases in 2019 – will be packaged in 22 oz. bottles.

Alright . . . that’s everything that we wanted to gloss over, but there is still quite a bit of information left for you to discover on the calendar below.  Give it a good look and settle in for another exciting year of beer with Funky Buddha Brewery in 2019.  Prost!

Funky Buddha Brewery Set to Release Bourbon Barrel-Aged Save Some Room For Later

FBB_save_some_room_for_later_bottle-mock-22oz_webFunky Buddha Brewery (Oakland Park, Florida) has officially announced that it will host a bottle release event for Bourbon Barrel-Aged Save Some Room For Later on Saturday, September 15.

Arriving as the latest selection to come out of Funky Buddha’s Living Barrel Series, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Save Some Room For Later starts its journey as a German chocolate cake-inspired Double Brown Ale that boasts “layers of creamy chocolate, sweet coconut, and fragrant vanilla” (a.k.a. the same Save Some Room For Later that saw a wide release earlier this month).  That decadent base beer is then transferred from the brewery’s “chocolate cake room to a bold Bourbon barrel” so that it can pick up “subtle oak undertones for a smooth and boozy finish.”  The completed Bourbon Barrel-Aged Save Some Room For Later weighs in at a hefty 10.5% ABV and 40 IBUs.

A bottle release for Bourbon Barrel-Aged Save Some Room For Later will be held in Funky Buddha’s Tap Room on Saturday, September 15.  This Limited Release will be available in 22 oz. bottles with bottle limits set at six (6) per person during the release event.  Bourbon Barrel-Aged Save Some Room For Later will be available exclusively in the brewery’s tap room and distribution is not expected (aside from special events).  Prost!

Funky Buddha Brewery Establishes The Living Barrel Series

BA_VNikolai_22ozFunky Buddha Brewery (Oakland Park, Florida) recently announced the creation of The Living Barrel Series, a line of specialty barrel-aged beers “with a new, enlightened look.”

To celebrate the growth of their brewery and its barrel-aging program in particular, the folks at Funky Buddha have now designated The Living Barrel Series as their official playground for all things barrel-aged.  These Limited Release brews have been carefully aged in a barrel cellar that currently houses “over five hundred oak casks of all types.”  We are talking about “hundreds of Bourbon barrels filled with everything from imperial stout to double brown ales; saisons aging in Chardonnay casks; and a multitude of unique wine and spirits casks including rum, tequila, and even luscious Cabernet.”

“Like the spiraling growth of a tree’s branches, so too are these beers transformed over time thanks to the maturation exclusively in oak wine and spirits casks. Unlike the ageless timber, these bottles are only available for a limited time.”

The Living Barrel Series will launch in the upcoming months with the release of the following three beers:

  • Rum Barrel-Aged Pina Colada, an Imperial Cream Ale made with real pineapple and coconut and aged in Jamaican rum casks for months. **UPDATE** Release Info: Rum Barrel-aged Piña Colada will be released exclusively in the Funky Buddha Tap Room on Sunday, July 30. 22 oz. bottles will be $20 each. Bottle limits are to be determined. **UPDATE**
  • Vanilla Bourbon Barrel-aged Nikolai Vorlauf – an Imperial Russian Stout aged for nearly two years in Bourbon barrels with whole vanilla beans added to the barrel. **UPDATE** Release Info: Vanilla Bourbon Barrel-aged Nikolai Vorlauf will be released exclusively in the Funky Buddha Tap Room on Sunday, July 30.  22 oz. bottles will be $20 each. Bottle limits are to be determined. **UPDATE**
  • Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dread Pirate Roberts – Powerful and ruthless, this beer takes no prisoners. Barrel-aged Dread Pirate Roberts is a rich and roasty Imperial Stout blended with real raspberry, chocolate, and coconut then aged for months inside bold, Bourbon barrels.

Rum Barrel-Aged Pina Colada and Vanilla Bourbon Barrel-aged Nikolai Vorlauf will be released in the brewery’s tap room (and possibly see distribution throughout Florida as well) sometime between the “end of July and late August.” Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dread Pirate Roberts will be “released exclusively to . . . Imperial Club members in August, with any remaining bottles released to the general public thereafter.”  All three offerings will be available in extremely limited quantities of 22 oz. bottles.

Funky Buddha Brewery already has plans in place to release “2017 iterations of Morning Wood and Last Buffalo in the Park, plus a host of other surprises to come” as future offerings in The Living Barrel Series.  We will be sure to update you with more detailed information on these and any future releases in the series just as soon as we have it.  Stay tuned.  Prost!
