OBHotboxpourOskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has announced that Hotbox Coffee Porter will return on August 4, and this time it is here to stay as the brewery’s newest Year-Round offering.

Brewed with a sizable malt bill that includes “seven varieties . . . led by CaraAroma”, Hotbox Coffee Porter starts life as a “hugely malty, medium-bodied porter” that offers notes of “chocolate, fig, plum, espresso, burnt sugar, caramel, and marshmallow.”  Hotbox Coffee Porter is then “[rearranged] into a coffee colossus” with the addition of “a super-concentrated cold brew” that Hotbox Roasters formulated from a “blend of beans from South America (Columbia, Honduras and Guatemala).”  With the malt bill perfectly balancing the coffee’s “flavors of tobacco, chocolate, wood and earthiness”, Hotbox Coffee Porter (6.4% ABV) comes together to be a “roasty, malty, wake-up-call of a porter” that is “not too sweet.”

“We brew two pounds of coffee to one gallon of water and then steep it for 36 hours,” said Noe Lopez, Head Roaster at Hotbox Roasters. “It adds massive coffee and chocolate flavor to the beer.” Hotbox Roasters donated the leftover Cold Brew to NASA to use as rocket fuel.

Creature Comforts to Release Automatic Pale Ale in August

CCBC_AutomaticStyleStillWeb-6249Creature Comforts Brewing Co. (Athens, Georgia) has announced that its popular Automatic Pale Ale will begin its Seasonal release in mid-August 2018.

Crafted to be a “modern” take on the American Pale Ale, Automatic (5.5% ABV) features “a prominent hop flavor and aroma” sourced from Mosaic and Crystal hops.  These hop varietals “create a delicate balance and give the beer an aroma that features a complex array of berry, citrus, herbal, and pine notes.” The aromatics carry over into the flavor and are accompanied by “a bit more earthiness and stone fruit, leading to a nicely balanced and moderately bitter finish.”

“Automatic is meant to be light, refreshing and quite drinkable without falling into the common pitfall of ending up too thin, watery or insipid,” said Brewmaster Adam Beauchamp. “No color malts were used, however, the relatively full mouthfeel is enough to support this heavily hopped beer.”

This year’s batch of Automatic Pale Ale will debut in the Creature Comforts Tasting Room in mid-August and will also enter distribution around that time.  You can expect to find this Seasonal offering available in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at select craft beer-focused establishments located within Creature Comforts’ distribution footprint in Athens and Atlanta, Georgia.  Prost!
