Oskar Blues Brewery Upgrades CANundrum Variety Pack to 15 Cans

OBCanundrum2Oskar Blues Brewery (Longmont, Colorado) has officially announced that its CANundrum variety pack, now a mixed 15-pack thanks to the addition of G’Knight Imperial Red IPA, will head out for distribution on September 1.

Previously released by Oskar Blues as a 12-pack, CANundrum is back and this time it is sporting three 12 oz. cans of each of the following “five straight-shooting brews” (descriptions sourced from the brewery’s website):

  • Dale’s Pale Ale – Dale’s Pale Ale is our defiant, proud, voluminously hopped mutha of a pale ale. If you’re looking for a fistful of flavor, look no further than this hopped-up trail ride. It delivers a hoppy nose and assertive-but-balanced flavors of pale malts and citrusy floral hops from the first sip to the final swig (6.5 % ABV and 65 IBUs). Dale’s Pale Ale is the beer that started it all.
  • Mama’s Little Yella Pils – Yaya raised a rebel who grew up to have dirt on his face, sweat on his brow, and beer in his blood. That’s why Mama’s Little Yella Pils is an uncompromising, hand crafted version of the great Pilsner beers of Bavaria and Bohemia. Unlike mass market pilsners diluted with corn and rice, Mama’s is built on pilsner and honey malt then hopped with Saaz and Aramis hops. While it’s rich with flavor, its 33 IBUs and 4.7% ABV make it a luxurious but low-dose (by Oskar Blues standards) refresher. It’s damn good, crushable beer. Take two and call us in the morning.
  • Pinner Throwback IPA – PINNER Throwback IPA is as close as you’re ever gonna get to tasting some twisted up calm in the Oskar Blues chaos. We crammed so much damn aroma—and boatloads of hop & malt flavor—into this beer, but we kept it crushable too. At 4.9% ABV and 35 IBUs, this edgy-yet-easygoing, drinkable IPA uses an array of hops to target its ever-evolving flavor. With tropical fruits, citrus juices, pineapple and spice berry up front in the aroma and flavor, the biscuit & toasted bread at the back balance out all the hops and make for a great finish just in time to blaze on to your next can of PINNER.
  • Oskar Blues IPA – Trailblazers don’t torch a new passageway and then stop; they keep finding new ways in and new ways back out. That’s exactly what we did with our metamodern IPA conceived of hand-selected hops from down under. Malt barley and red wheat combine to create a clean malt backbone with a foolproof flavor and mouthfeel to support America’s sneak peek at Enigma, Vic Secret, Ella and Galaxy hops. The hops strum juicy and sweet aromas with headline notes of passion fruit, raspberries, pineapple and citrus. This intense, straight-up strain is Oskar Blues IPA (6.43% ABV). Smash a Blue Ferrigno… and it’ll smash back.
  • G’Knight Imperial Red IPA (in a mixed pack for the first time) – Our ‘Velvet M-80’ is a hefty, dry hopped double-red IPA with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors. G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown.

The CANundrum Variety 15-pack will begin hitting shelves on September 1, 2018.  You can expect to find this mixed pack at craft beer-friendly retailers located in Alabama, Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, Texas and throughout the rest of Oskar Blues Brewery’s nationwide distribution area.  Prost!

Jester King Brewery Introduces Soul Conduit

SC2-1Jester King Brewery (Austin, Texas) has officially announced that it will release Soul Conduit, a gin barrel-aged Table Beer with dried makrut limes and thyme, at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 24.

Brewed for Portland, Oregon’s 7th annual Brews for New Avenues, Soul Conduit is basically what happens when you take Jester King’s Le Petit Prince Farmhouse Table Beer, put it into the “Old Tom gin barrels that previously held Jester King Viking Metal“, and then referment it with dried makrut limes and thyme.  No one is going to describe this beer better than Averie Swanson – Head Brewer at Jester King, so here is what she had to say about this project:

“I originally wanted to put Le Petit Prince into the gin barrels that were emptied for last year’s Viking Metal, hoping the beer would pick up a bit of the smoke character left in the barrel, as a bit of an homage to Schlenkerla Helles.” As the beer matured, Averie observed that not only did the beer pickup smokiness, but botanical character as well. “Over time the beer picked up not just the smoke but also quite a bit of the gin botanicals and has an awesome smoky fullness, juniper gin notes and a crazy tonic-like bitterness. Thus, the G&Teeter was born!”

750ml bottles of Soul Conduit will officially release in the Tasting Room at Jester King Brewery on Friday, August 24.  At this time, the brewery does not yet know if this Limited Release offering will see distribution.  Prost!

The Bruery Launches Bakery Series with Release of Coconut Macaroons Imperial Stout

Bakery_CanThe Bruery (Orange County, California) has officially released Bakery – Coconut Macaroons, a Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Stout with coconut and natural vanilla flavor added, as the first offering to come out of its new series of pastry stouts.

Armed with a long track record of brewing incredibly unique and memorable takes on big ol’ beers, The Bruery has decided to add even more sweetness to its portfolio with the establishment of the Bakery Series, a lineup of pastry stouts that takes advantage of the fact that “Imperial Stouts seamlessly play well with many other adjuncts.”  The inaugural release in this series is Coconut Macaroons, a Bourbon Barrel-aged pastry stout that has been layered with coconut and natural vanilla flavor.  Weighing in at a sizable 13% ABV, Coconut Macaroons is “super dark with a residual sweetness” that offers “light notes of coconut and vanilla.”

Where did the idea for this beer come from? The Bruery founder Patrick Rue states, “Macaroons bring back nostalgic feelings for me. As a kid, I would beg my Mom to buy them and devour them in one sitting. In college, my girlfriend (now wife) would buy fresh, chocolate-dipped macaroons from the campus coffee shop, which further fueled my appreciation for the dessert.

The flavors of toasty coconut, notes of dark chocolate, and vanilla meld so well in a beer that has a lot of richness, but without an overpowering level of roast. A macaroon inspired beer was the perfect choice to launch our Bakery series with.”

Bakery – Coconut Macaroons is available now and will hang around as long as supplies last.  You can expect to find this Limited Release offering available in individually sold 16 oz. cans at select craft beer retailers located in Florida, California and throughout the rest of The Bruery’s distribution footprint.  Prost!

MNBMischiefManagedMonday Night Brewing (Atlanta, Georgia) has officially announced the limited release of Mischief Managed with Peaches, the newest project to come out the brewery’s Garage program.

Back for its second installment, Mischief Managed is Monday Night’s wine barrel-fermented Berliner Weisse series that mixes it up from release to release with new fruit additions.  This batch features “a classically Georgia ingredient” – peaches from Jaemor Farms in North Georgia.  After being introduced to “a whopping 75 pounds [of peaches] per barrel”, this release of Mischief Managed has come together to supply its drinker with “a clean, refreshing sour ale perfect for summer.”

“This Berliner Weisse recipe lends itself so well to fruit, and we really like to play with the recipe,” said brewmaster Peter Kiley. “The first batch with raspberries worked well, so it made total sense to try this batch with fresh peaches. They’re in season right now, and we were able to find a local farmer to work with, which is amazing.”
