Harpoon Brewery & Dunkin’ Launch New Line Coffee & Donut Infused Beers

Harpoon Brewery (Boston, Massachusetts) and Dunkin’ (Canton, Massachusetts) have officially announced that they have collaborated once again to launch of new series of coffee and – for the first time – donut-infused beers for Seasonal Release in September 2020.

Inspired by the success that Harpoon Dunkin’ Coffee Porter has experienced over its last two Seasonal Releases, Harpoon Brewery and Dunkin’ got together again this year “to see what would happen if they brewed a beer made with Dunkin’s famous donuts, creating a new lineup that celebrates classic fall coffee and donut flavors” (descriptions sourced directly from the brewery’s press release):

  • Harpoon Dunkin’ Pumpkin | Inspired by everyone’s favorite fall pumpkin latte, this “Spiced Latte Ale” is brewed with real pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices, and a splash of coffee. Light in color and easy-drinking, it’s a perfect blend of all the autumn flavors we love, with just a touch of espresso-like roast! ABV – 5.2%
  • Harpoon Dunkin’ Boston Kreme | This “Boston Kreme Stout” is brewed with real Dunkin’ donuts and cacao nibs, which add extra dough-like and chocolatey notes to an easy-drinking, creamy Dry Irish Stout. ABV – 4.3%
  • Harpoon Dunkin’ Jelly Donut | Brewed with real Dunkin’ donuts and raspberry purée, this slightly hazy IPA has bright notes of jelly and citrus from the addition of fruit-forward Hüll Melon and Citra hops. ABV – 5.7%
  • Harpoon Dunkin’ Coffee Porter | Harpoon’s first ever tribute to the Dunkin’ coffee that has helped keep Harpoon brewers running, this classic American Porter combines malty notes of chocolate, caramel, and toffee with the comforting and familiar flavor of Dunkin’ Original Blend coffee. ABV – 6.0%

Highland Brewing (Asheville, North Carolina) has officially announced that it will begin the Seasonal Release of Clawhammer Oktoberfest in August 2020.

Back for its 12th year, Clawhammer is a Bavarian-inspired Märzen Lager that showcases German hops and malts. Coming in at an easy-drinking 5% ABV, Clawhammer is “smooth and well-rounded with toasty malt character.”

Clawhammer is available now and will be hanging around through October 2020. Tampa Bay Brewing Company (Tampa, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of its Oktoberfest Lager on Friday, August 28.

Here to remind you that now is the time to dig your lederhosen or dirndl out of the back of the closet, Oktoberfest is a Märzen-style Lager “brewed using traditional German brewing methods utilizing a single decoction mash and all traditional German ingredients.” Clocking in at a highly drinkable 5.3% ABV, Oktoberfest offers “aromas of bready malt and caramel [that] give way to a full-bodied mouthfeel with flavors of toasted malt and a hint of caramel sweetness.”

Oktoberfest will hit Tampa Bay Brewing Company’s Westchase and Ybor City locations on August 28 and distribution will follow shortly after the on-site release. Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, Florida) has officially announced that it will begin the Seasonal Release of Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale in September 2020.

First introduced in 2011 and now a Seasonal favorite for lovers of all things pumpkin and beer, Good Gourd is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale “brewed with cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, and vanilla to emulate the flavors of a decadent, piquant pumpkin pie.” Coming in at 8.8% ABV, Good Gourd is a “liquid monument to the glory of the pumpkin, the most noble of all the gourds.”

Good Gourd will return in September and is scheduled to stick around through December 2020. Avery Brewing Co. (Boulder, Colorado) has officially announced that it will begin the Seasonal Release of The Kaiser, an Imperial Oktoberfest Lager, in late August 2020.

Brewed each year to serve as Avery Brewing Co.’s “emboldened ‘Prost!’ to one of the world’s most recognized styles,” The Kaiser “weaves together rich, toasted Vienna and Munich malts with the floral spiciness of Hallertau and Bravo hops to create a bold and brazen dry Imperial Oktoberfest” Lager. Coming in at an attention-getting 8% ABV, The Kaiser “demands a following through its deep dark malt bill, aromas of toast, nuts, and bread, all pulled together with a boisterous booziness.”

Burial Beer Co. Set for Limited Release of The Distortion Triple Dry-Hopped IPA

Burial Beer Co. (Asheville, North Carolina) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Can Release of The Distortion, a new Triple IPA, at noon on Wednesday, August 26.

Crafted to alter your reality with an immense amount of haze, The Distortion is a Triple Hazy/Juicy India Pale Ale brewed with oats and candi sugar and triple dry-hopped with “Strata, Citra, Vic Secret and a final dose of Simcoe Cryo.” Weighing in at 10% ABV, The Distortion offers “guzzles of orange julius, wafts of tangerine dream, and mouthfuls of candied mango.”

The Distortion – available in 4-packs of 16 oz cans for $21 each – will be available for online presale for pickup at Burial Beer Co.’s Asheville taproom and Raleigh taproom at noon on August 26 (proxies welcome). Boulevard Brewing Co. Gives New Life to Smooth Fuzz as a Peach Sour Ale

Boulevard Brewing Co. (Kansas City, Missouri) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Smooth Fuzz Peach Sour Ale on August 31, 2020.

Introduced in 2019 as a means of highlighting that year’s apricot season, Smooth Fuzz has returned in 2020 to showcase another fuzzy stone fruit, the peach. Beginning life as a “beautifully complex marriage of two golden saisons aged in wine puncheons, wine barrels, and two foeders,” this rendition of Smooth Fuzz went on to be finished with “a secondary fermentation with 8,000 pounds of fresh peaches, and 8-14 additional months in oak barrels.” Coming in at 7.2% ABV, the “tart and funky, sweet and sticky” Smooth Fuzz Peach Sour Ale “highlights a mixed fermentation character provided by [Boulevard’s] house lactobacillus and brettanomyces cultures.”

Smooth Fuzz Peach Sour Ale is scheduled to debut in the Greater Kansas City Area on Monday, August 31 and expanded distribution will follow shortly after that date. Heavy Seas Beer (Baltimore, Maryland) has officially announced that it will begin the Taproom Exclusive Release of Joose Cannon: Glacier Froot, the fourth release in the brewery’s Joose Cannon Series, during the weekend of Friday, September 4.

Developed to be a sports-drink-inspired take on the brewery’s flagship Loose Cannon IPA, Joose Cannon: Glacier Froot is a Hazy/Juicy India Pale Ale dry-hopped with Citra, Mandarina Bavaria and Simcoe Cryo/Lupulin Powder and then infused with cherry and cranberry juice and strawberry purée. Coming in at 7.25% ABV, Glacier Froot “combines berry and citrus to create an IPA that will quench your thirst on the hottest of days—no electrolytes needed.”

“We’ve brewed our fourth version of Joose Cannon with the usual oats, wheat and a dose of lactose to provide a satisfying, hazy IPA,” says Heavy Seas Brewmaster, Chris Leonard. “This time we’ve dry-hopped it with Citra, Mandarina Bavaria, and Simcoe Cryo/Lupulin Powder to provide juicy aromas of lemon, orange, tangerine and pineapple.  Then, we went ahead and added cherry and cranberry Juice along with a strong helping of strawberry puree.  Citrus and berry flavors make for a most satisfying, quenching hazy IPA experience.”

Bent Water Brewing Co. (Lynn, Massachusetts) has officially announced that it has partnered with Progressive Distribution so that it can begin distribution in Florida immediately.

Founded in 2015, Bent Water Brewing Co. decided to “plant [their] passion” in Lynn, Massachusetts due to the area’s “rich industrial history and superior water source.” That precious water source quickly shaped the brewery’s core beliefs around the idea that “every beer begins with water, and with careful, creative manipulation, [Bent Water Brewing Co. bends] water into unique, flavorful brews.” After spending the last few years executing their mission and endearing themselves to craft beer fans in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, Bent Water will venture out of New England for the first time and send their wildly popular beers to Florida.
