Anderson Valley Brewing Company Returns to Alabama

AVBCglass_editedAnderson Valley Brewing Company (Boonville, California) has officially announced that they have partnered with International Wines & Craft Beer to bring their offerings back to the state of Alabama beginning this month.

When the brewery was founded on December 26th, 1987 in the town of Boonville, California, Anderson Valley Brewing Company was just “one of only 20 craft breweries in the country.”  Thanks to a commitment to experimentation and innovation, their hand-crafted, authentic ales and lagers have helped the brewery grow from a “modest” 10-barrel brewhouse to what is now a “26-acre property [that] houses a 100-barrel brewhouse, tasting room, beer garden, and is home to the first 18-hole disc golf course ever to be built at a brewery.” Now considered to be one of the pioneers of the American craft beer industry, Anderson Valley Brewing Co. is known for a solid, time-tested portfolio of Year-Round brews, an incredibly popular line of Goses, and an exclusive partnership with Wild Turkey® Bourbon that yields their Barl Series of bourbon barrel-aged beers.  To the delight of the Alabama beer community, the brewery has now decided that its next step moving forward is a much-anticipated return to the Heart of Dixie.

“As the craft beer movement continues to grow, we’ve been keeping our eye open for opportunities to expand into regions with strong, craft-oriented wholesalers. Partnering with International just made sense; their knowledge of craft is exemplary and their dedication to building brands is impressive. We’re optimistic about what the future holds for us in Alabama.”

– Trey White, President and Owner of Anderson Valley Brewing Company

The beers of Anderson Valley Brewing Company are available throughout the state of Alabama effective immediately.  International Wines & Craft Beer will handle all distribution responsibilities for the brewery in Alabama, and this fine distributor already has the following list of Anderson Valley launch events planned:

Wednesday, May 10

Thursday, May 11

All the launch events listed above are sure to feature some tasty treats, so be sure to attend one (or many) so that you can give the folks at Anderson Valley Brewing Company a proper welcome back to the great state of Alabama.  Prost!

Florida SMaSH Beer Festival Returns in May

FLSMaSHposterOn Saturday, May 13 at 2 p.m., the city of Longwood will host the 2nd Annual Florida SMaSH Beer Festival at the Longwood Community Center (200 W. Warren Avenue, Longwood, Florida).

The Florida SMaSH Beer Festival celebrates the “creativity and camaraderie of the brewers in the Sunshine State” by asking all participating breweries to create a SMaSH beer, a brew of any style that is created with a single malt and single hop.  Although all breweries will be required to use only Golden Promise malt and Hallertau Blanc hops in their brew, this limitation actually serves as a creative playground for the brewers as they develop a recipe that will allow them to stand out and make an impression on the drinker.

Not only will this event feature exclusive, one-off SMaSH beers from all participating breweries, but there will also be a SMaSH beer competition – voted on by attendees – to crown a winner of the festival, a selection of other special brews pouring during the event, and the event will also act as a fundraiser to benefit the very worthy cause of The Sharing Center.  Since this event has quite a few moving parts, let’s break it down:

The Basics

  • What – Florida SMaSH Beer Festival
  • When – 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 13
  • Where – Longwood Community Center (200 W. Warren Avenue, Longwood, Florida)

Participating Breweries

The Smash Beer Competition

“With the spirit of SMaSH brewing so heavily steeped in the home brewing tradition, our festival will feature a friendly competition between brewers, judged solely by the attendees. Each attendee will receive three voting tokens to distribute among their favorite entries. Winners will take home a very unique prize.”

Ticket Information

Tickets for The Florida SMaSH Beer Festival are available now, and you can purchase tickets online by clicking here.  Tickets are available in the following tiers:

  • General Admission: $35 – Ticket grants you admittance into the festival, a commemorative tasting glass, and unlimited samples of over 80 local craft beers
  • VIP: $75 – VIP ticket allows you to enter the festival one hour early for a private brewers lunch and brewery bottle tasting, a commemorative tasting glass, and unlimited samples of over 80 local craft beers

The Cause

A portion of ticket sales will go to benefit The Sharing Center, a top-rated 501c3 non-profit organization that focuses on preventing hunger and homelessness for families and individuals in crisis by offering a hand-up to the working-poor in Seminole County and those who are struggling to move out of homelessness.

Alright, that should pretty much cover all the needed information concerning this event.  If your calendar is open on March 13 and you happen to be in the area, we highly recommend that you consider checking out the Florida SMaSH Beer Festival.  SMaSH beers act as a fantastic educational tool that allows the drinker to gain a better understanding of specific brewing ingredients, and a festival of this size will also highlight the scope of the artistic creativity thriving within our local brewing community.  Throw in the fact that you will be supporting a local non-profit while enjoying all of these tasty brews, and you really cannot go wrong here.  Make it happen, folks.  Prost!

First brewed and released in 2016 to commemorate Escape Brewing Company’s 100th batch of beer, Batch 100 Imperial IPA is making a triumphant return this April under a new name: Seeds of Hope Imperial IPA.  Since the first release of this beer was incredibly popular with fans of the brewery, it been has decided to make this year’s release of Seeds of Hope Imperial IPA a full-blown bottle release and Spring Beer Event featuring other rare beers from Escape Brewing and 12 other guest breweries.  There are quite a few moving parts when it comes to this event, so let’s break it all down:

Other Things to Consider

  • Parking – Although there is a parking lot at this location, parking is limited.  The brewery urges that you carpool, use UBER, take a taxi, ride a bike, etc. so that any issues with parking can be avoided.
  • Food – Escape Brewing Company is working on possibly having a food truck on-site during this event.  If that does not happen, Brick Oven Pizzeria is located next door to the brewery and is always a great option if you find yourself in need of some tasty eats.

TBBW Event: Sun King Brewery Tap Takeover at The Ale and The Witch

alewitchlogoOn Friday, March 10 at 3 p.m., The Ale and The Witch (111 2nd Ave NE Saint Petersburg, Florida) will welcome Sun King Brewery (Indianapolis, Indiana) to Tampa Bay Beer Week by hosting a very special Tap Takeover event.

What began as a pipe dream shared between two men – Dave Colt and Clay Robinson – while spending “long hours brewing, scrubbing, and polishing . . . brewery equipment” at a previous brewing job, Sun King Brewery finally became a reality in 2009 when Colt and Robinson went all in and sold their first keg.  After just a few short years since that first sale, Sun King has established a strong reputation after earning several medals at the Indiana Brewers Cup, Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup, and the brewery is now recognized as the second-largest beer brewer in the state of Indiana.

Not normally available in the state of Florida, Sun King Brewery happens to be in town visiting for Tampa Bay Beer Week (TBBW), and The Ale and The Witch is more than happy to host this respected brewery for a rare Tap Takeover on March 10.  The following seven Sun King offerings will be pouring on draft during this event:

Featured Draft Beers from Sun King Brewery

  • Cherry Busey – A Flanders-style Oud Bruin Ale produced using a complex cocktail of wild yeasts and aged in a bevy of barrels. A multitude of Montmorency cherries were lovingly liberated to give the beer its tart cherry tang.  Cherry Busey was the winner of the Bronze Medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival® in the Belgian-Style Fruit Beer Category.  ABV – 6.9%  IBUs – 23
  • Old Fashioned Elixir – This beer starts with a base of Velvet Fog Belgian Quad, a King Reserve Series offering that took the 2012 gold medal at the World Beer Cup, that is then aged in rye barrels with Balaton Cherries & orange peel for that classic cocktail creation. ABV – 11.6%
  • Osiris Pale Ale – An assertive West Coast-Style Pale with a distinct citrus hop punch.  ABV – 5.6%  IBUs – 50
  • Ring of Dingle – A rich and roasty Irish-Style Dry Stout with a clean, dry finish. The beer is named after a scenic road network in Ireland that starts and ends in the city of Dingle.  Ring of Dingle was the winner of the Silver Medal in the Classic Irish-Dry Stout Category at the 2012 World Beer Cup, and the winner of the Gold Medal in the Irish-Style Dry Stout category at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival.  ABV – 4.6%  IBUs – 34
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders – A traditional Belgian-Style Flanders Oud Bruin, Stupid Sex Flanders is fermented with wild yeasts, Lactobacillus and Brettanomyces, which impart tart cherry flavors to balance the beer’s malt sweetness.  ABV – 6.5%  IBUs – 23
  • Sunlight Cream Ale – Celebrates American brewing tradition by balancing smooth malt complexity with a crisp, clean finish.  Sunlight was the winner of the Gold Medal in the Golden or Blonde Ale category at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival®, and the Silver Medal at the 2010 World Beer Cup in the Golden or Blonde Ale category.  ABV – 5.3%  IBUs – 20
  • Whip Fight – A bourbon barrel aged Wee Heavy in which rich toffee flavor takes a Burt Lancaster-sized twist with the addition of pecan and semi-sweet chocolate.  ABV – 10.6%  IBUs – 30

The beers above will begin pouring when The Ale and The Witch opens at 3 p.m. on March 10, and they will be available until the kegs run dry or the bar closes.  Since this is a pay as you go event, no tickets are needed to enjoy these delicious brews.  We must remind you that Sun King Brewery and their beers are not normally available in Florida, so these beers will not last long.  With that in mind, go ahead and make plans now to visit The Ale and The Witch on Friday to get in on what is sure to be one hell of a TBBW Tap Takeover with Sun King Brewery.  Prost!
