7venth Sun Brewery Announces Plans for 6th Anniversary Party

7venthSunlogo7venth Sun Brewery (Dunedin & Tampa, Florida) will celebrate its 6th Anniversary on Sunday, January 7 with parties to be held at both brewery locations.

Devon Kreps and Justin Stange established 7venth Sun Brewery in Dunedin back in 2012.  Although they originally intended to open a large production facility at that time, the country’s housing and economic problems made it nearly impossible for them to secure funding.  The two ultimately decided to start small, and this “proved serendipitous as it allowed the creation of a wide variety of styles” and an opportunity to be at the forefront of the “Florida Weisse” movement.  This approach quickly endeared them to the area’s craft beer community and gave the brewery the chance to grow at its own pace.  And grow it did.  In August of 2017, Kreps and Stange opened a beautiful facility in the Seminole Heights area of Tampa to give 7venth Sun two locations that each have their own independent charm and personality.  They have since installed and refurbished some foeders, shifted focus to barrel-aged beers (both sour and spirit-aged), started canning, and remain dedicated to “[pushing] the limits of style descriptions and categories” through innovation and creativity.

With all of that said, it is obvious that everything leading up to the brewery’s 6th anniversary has given the folks at 7venth Sun Brewery plenty to celebrate with their fans.  Since this 6th Anniversary Party will take place simultaneously at two locations, we have a good amount of details to go over.  So . . . let’s break it all down:

Wynwood Brewing Plans Black Friday Release of Coqui-To Barrel-Aged Milk Stout

CoquitoWBCOfeatureWynwood Brewing Company (Miami, Florida) will officially kick off the holiday season by hosting a special, limited release event for Coqui-To Barrel-Aged Milk Stout beginning at noon on November 24 – Black Friday.

The folks at Wynwood Brewing created Coqui-To Barrel-Aged Milk Stout to mimic the flavors of “Coquito”, a traditional Puerto Rican holiday beverage “known as Puerto Rico’s eggnog, made with rum, coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and cloves.”  Their brewers pulled this off by crafting a Rum Barrel-aged Imperial Milk Stout that was then finished off with toasted coconut, cinnamon, clove and vanilla beans. The resulting Coqui-To Barrel-Aged Milk Stout comes together as a unique treat that is meant to serve as the perfect beer to share with friends and family this holiday season.

“We’ve been wanting to make this beer for a long time,” said Wynwood Brewing Founder Luis Brignoni. “Coquito is something my family always enjoyed during the holidays. Now that we have more production space to brew and barrel-age, we can offer a taste of this Puerto Rican tradition to our fans.”

Coqui-To Barrel-Aged Milk Stout will officially release in Wynwood Brewing’s Tap Room at noon on Friday, November 24.  Those who attend this Limited Release Event will have the option to enjoy Coqui-To Barrel-Aged Milk Stout on draft or purchase 750ml crowler “shorty” cans for $20 each.  In addition to the beer release, this event “will also feature a special brewery tour of Miami’s first craft production brewery showcasing the barrel-aging process for Coqui-To.”  If you happen to be in the area on Black Friday, make sure you swing by the brewery and get into the holiday spirit by raising a glass of Coqui-To Barrel-Aged Milk Stout with the crew at Wynwood Brewing.  Prost!

Good People Brewing Releases Details for El Gordo Day 2017

elgordoOn Saturday, December 9 at 9 a.m. (CST), Good People Brewing Company (Birmingham, Alabama) will hold its second, in-house bottle release for the wildly-popular El Gordo Imperial Stout at a festival-style event playfully dubbed ¡Dia del Gordo! – The Rematch!

Yeah, you read that correctly.  The infamous and super-sized El Gordo Imperial Stout has committed to make another rare appearance on December 9 for its highly-anticipated rematch to last year’s ¡Dia del Gordo!  Back to defend the title it earned in 2015, El Gordo plans to deliver its signature “flavorful smackdown” as a 13.9% ABV Imperial Stout that “[dominates] the senses without overwhelming the palette.” Oh, and we almost forgot to mention that he’s bringing friends to this party – a.k.a. variants and vintages that date back to 2014.

¡Dia del Gordo! – The Rematch! will be held at Good People Brewing Company and act as the exclusive bottle release event for El Gordo in 2017. You best believe that many will show up on December 9 to witness the power, grace and mystery of El Gordo, so let’s break this thing down to ensure that you have all the details needed to prepare for this glorious spectacle:

The Basics

  • What – ¡Dia del Gordo! – The Rematch! / El Gordo Imperial Stout Bottle Release Event
  • When – Saturday, December 9 at 9 a.m.
  • Where – Good People Brewing Company (114 14th St S, Birmingham, Alabama)

The Bottle List

  • 2014 El Gordo Imperial Stout – $25 per 22 oz. bottle
  • 2015 El Gordo Imperial Stout – $25 per 750ml bottle
  • 2016 El Gordo Imperial Stout – $25 per 750ml bottle
  • 2016 Barrel Aged El Gordo – $30 per 750ml bottle
  • 2016 Olé Mole El Gordo – $25 per 750ml bottle
  • 2017 El Gordo Imperial Stout – $20 per 750ml bottle

  • 2017 Olé Mole El Gordo – $20 per 750ml bottle
  • 2017 Fatso Russian Imperial Stout – $20 per 750ml bottle

The Draft List

¡Dia del Gordo! – The Rematch! will also feature a variety of exciting beers pouring on draft throughout the event.  These offerings will be available by full pour or sample.  The official draft list is still being compiled.  We will update this area with that information just as soon as we have it, so stay tuned.

The Ins & Outs

  • Bottle sales will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 9
  • In an effort to improve upon last year’s experience, the brewery has decided to have a dedicated line for bottle sales only this year.  This line will begin at Good People’s side patio, take you through the back of the brewery, and have you exiting through “the garage doors on 2nd Ave with bottles in tow.”  This line will NOT go through the taproom.
  • There will be NO forms to fill out this year.  Once you make it to the bottle selection area, you will grab a box and “move down the line to grab whatever bottles you want.”  You will then pay for your bottles at the end of that line.
  • The legal limit for take-home sales in the state of Alabama is 288 oz. per person per day, and the brewery will be enforcing this limit.  That amounts to roughly a maximum of 11 bottles per person.
  • All bottle sales will be sold on a first come, first served basis
  • The taproom will also open at 9 a.m. so that you can enjoy some tasty offerings on draft.  If you would like a brew while in line for bottles, you will have the ability to grab a beer from the brewery’s “draft trailer, a beer station close to [the] QC lab, and the taproom.”
  • Attendees are encouraged to hang out “to enjoy plenty of El Gordo and other specialties in the taproom after [they are] done buying bottles”
  • Bottles and draft beers can be purchased with either cash or credit cards, and you will be required to present a valid ID to make any purchases at the brewery
  • To make sure you are all covered in the grub department,  Cantina on Wheels will be at the brewery at 9 a.m. to serve up some breakfast burritos and The Hot Tag will be on-site later in the day to take care of the lunch crowd

Alright, that should cover all the information that is available at this time.  We will update this post just as soon as more details surface, so stay tuned.  Until then . . . ¡Viva El Gordo!  Prost!

Brouwerij Bosteels to Bring Kwaktoberfest to the U.S. in October

bosteels-pauwel-kwakBrouwerij Bosteels (Buggenhout, Belgium) and Artisanal Imports have officially announced that they will be celebrating Kwaktoberfest at bars and restaurants across America during the month of October.

If you have not figured it out by now, Kwaktoberfest is Brouwerij Bosteels’ annual celebration of their iconic Pauwel Kwak, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale that is equally known for its quality and its “instantly recognizable carriage glass.”  With the help of Artisanal Imports, Brouwerij Bosteels will take this Kwaktoberfest party to participating locations coast-to-coast.  In addition to pouring Pauwel Kwak, these venues will also showcase “the brewery’s other world-class brews including Tripel Karmeliet and DeuS.”  These events will also feature special point of sale items such as “flags, coasters, posters, single and double Kwak glasses and the almighty Quattro, capable of holding four Kwak glasses at once.”

“Kwaktoberfest is a fun addition to the German Oktoberfest season,” says Lanny Hoff, SVP-Brands Manager of Artisanal Imports. “There are stylistic similarities between Kwak and German Märzen and glassware is a big part of the celebration. Whether it’s a liter of Oktoberfest or a carriage glass of Kwak, it’s fun!”

Kwaktoberfest events will be taking place throughout the U.S. during the month of October.  If you are interested in attending a Kwaktoberfest event, keep an eye on Artisanal Imports’ website and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) for information, and be sure to check back here as we will update this post with any details we receive concerning official event dates and locations.  Stay tuned!  Prost!

Vital Information for Pauwel Kwak from Brouwerij Bosteels

Release – Year-round
Style – Belgian Strong Pale Ale
ABV – 8.4%
Ingredients – Barley malts, mineral water, wheat, hops & white candy sugar

Availability – 11.2 oz. bottles & draft
Suggested Food Pairings – “Kwak is tremendous with any kind of grilled or roasted meats or poultry. It is also a good beer with dessert, particularly those with nuts or caramel. It goes with almost any cheese and makes a very tasty (if spendy!) beer soup.”
Fun Fact – Background on the glassware: “The legendary Kwak glass, or ‘Koetsiersglas’, hearkens back to the Napoleonic era. Back then, Pauwel Kwak was a brewer and owner of the De Hoorn inn, which saw daily visits from mail coaches and their passengers. While passengers could stop in for a drink, coachmen were prohibited from leaving their posts to join. To bypass this inconvenience, Kwak had special glasses blown with a convex bottom that could sit in the coach in a wooden stand, allowing the drivers to enjoy a glass!”

There is no denying that the list above is pretty damn awesome, but those are not the only brews that will be pouring at this event.  That’s right . . . Coppertail Brewing Co. has invited some friends over for this party, and they are bringing a few of their own goodies to contribute to the celebration.  Guest breweries include and their beers (**UPDATE** 8.25.17):

Entertainment & Food

The good folks at Coppertail Brewing Co. know that you cannot possibly have a party without music, so they have booked Sun Signs, Mike Mass, and Mountain Holler to play this event.  The festival will also feature live limited-edition t-shirt printing and some tasty eats from Coppertail’s S & V Kitchen.

Admission Information

Coppertail’s Florida Weisse Festival is free to attend and tickets are not needed to gain entry.  All you have to do is show up and pay per pour.

If you are free on Saturday, in the area and have a love for tart, refreshing brews, you need to be at this Florida Weisse Festival to raise a glass with the Coppertail Brewing crew to the past three years and the many more ahead.  Make it happen, have some good times, and just be sure to arrange for a responsible way home after the party.  Prost!
