Founders Brewing Co.’s CBS Returns in 2019 with Availability in 12 oz. Bottles

cbs_12oz_bottleFounders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, Michigan) has officially announced that the highly anticipated 2019 release of Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) will begin on November 1 and – for the first time ever – it will be available in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles.

Arriving as the fifth and final release in the brewery’s 2019 Barrel-Aged Series, CBS is an Imperial Stout brewed with coffee and chocolate – the same base beer as Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) – that is then aged in “bourbon barrels that had previously housed maple syrup.”  Once its rest is completed, CBS (11.3% ABV) emerges from the barrels to offer a “transcendental drinking experience” featuring notes of “rich maple syrup, roasted coffee and velvety chocolate.”

The 2019 release of CBS marks the third year in a row that the brewery has released the beer and sadly “they have no future plans to brew it again.”

“This will be the last year I plan on making CBS, so get it while you can,” said Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki. “Our barrel program has grown a lot since the first time we released CBS, so it’s been fun seeing an entire new audience become introduced to CBS over the past couple of years. It’ll be missed in 2020, but I’m looking forward to bringing out some new barrel-aged releases.”

This year’s batch of CBS will debut with a presale at Founders Brewing Co.’s Grand Rapids and Detroit taproom locations on October 25 through October 27 (General Admission CBS ticket sales begin on September 13 at 10 a.m. EST) and full distribution is scheduled to begin on November 1.  You can expect to find this Limited Release offering available in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles, 750ml bottles and on draft at select craft beer-friendly establishments located in Alabama, Florida, Michigan and throughout the rest of Founders Brewing Co.’s nationwide distribution area. Jester King Brewery To Release Tasting Room Exclusive Provenance Black Lime

JesterkinglogoJester King Brewery (Austin, Texas) has officially announced that it will begin the Limited Release of Provenance Black Lime on Thursday, August 22.

Arriving as the next installment in Jester King’s citrus-themed series, Provenance Black Lime (5.6% ABV) is a Farmhouse Ale that incorporates black limes in the boil of “a similar [base beer] to previous Provenance iterations.”  This approach produces a beer that is “deeper in color, with more caramel notes and more body” than past Provenance releases.

“We took limes from G&S Orchards and sliced them into ¼ inch disks, then dehydrated those disks at 140 degrees Fahrenheit for 7-10 days. The process is a slow caramelization of the sugars within the fruit as well as enzymatic oxidation of the flesh. This process definitely changes the flavor to something still reminiscent of the original fruit but has a distinct caramel quality, elevated acidity, and tea-like character.”

– Damien Brockway, Jester King Executive Chef

Provenance Black Lime will release exclusively in the Tasting Room & Kitchen at Jester King Brewery at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 22.  This Limited Release offering will be available in 750ml bottles for the cost of $13 each (limit of two (2) bottles per person per day).  Provenance Black Lime will not see distribution. Southern Grist Brewing Co. Set to Release Batch One Theory: German Chocolate Cake Imperial Stout

SouthernGristlogoOn Saturday, August 3 at 11 a.m., Southern Grist Brewing Co. (Nashville, Tennessee) will host a bottle release at its production facility for two barrel-aged treatments – Bourbon and Rum – of its Batch One Theory: German Chocolate Cake Imperial Stout.

Arriving as the latest installment in Southern Grist’s Batch One Theory (B1T) Series of Barrel-aged Imperial Stouts, both treatments of B1T: German Chocolate Cake start with the same Imperial Oated Sweet Stout base that is then split and aged “for 12 months in both Rum and Heaven Hill bourbon barrels.” To lend the beer all the indulgent goodness one expects to find in an actual German chocolate cake, each barrel-aged beer was then “racked on top of heaps of toasted coconut, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and almonds.”  This lengthy process produces a “rich and decadent” German Chocolate Cake experience “that layers wonderfully with the spirit forward Barrel Aged Stout.” The brewery suggests that you drink Rum B1T: German Chocolate Cake and Bourbon B1T: German Chocolate Cake side-by-side so that you can properly experience “the subtle differences and complexities of the Bourbon and Rum casks.”  Both B1T: German Chocolate Cake treatments weigh in at 12.6% ABV.

The release of Rum B1T: German Chocolate Cake and Bourbon B1T: German Chocolate Cake will take place at 11 a.m. on August 3 at Southern Grist’s production facility (5012 Centennial Blvd. | Nashville, Tennessee) located next to the brewery’s Nations Taproom.  Each bottle will cost $23.61 each (tax included) and Southern Grist plans to set bottle limits at one (1) bottle of Rum B1T: German Chocolate Cake and two (2) bottles of Bourbon B1T: German Chocolate Cake per person.  During the release on Saturday, both beers will also be available on draft at Southern Grist’s East Nashville and Nations Taprooms. B1T: German Chocolate Cake is a brewery-only release that – outside of special events – will not see distribution. Prost!
