Appalachian Mountain Brewery Launches Sour Series with Release of Margarita Gose

AMBlogoAppalachian Mountain Brewery (Boone, North Carolina) has officially announced that it will kick off its newly-established Sour Series with the June release of Margarita Gose.

Also known as Marg Gose (pronounced “mar-go-suh”) to Appalachian Mountain Brewery’s dedicated regulars, Margarita Gose is a traditional German-style Gose “brewed with fresh lemons and limes, sea salt, and coriander.”  Clocking in at just 3.8% ABV, the “thirst-quenching” Margarita Gose is sure to be perfect accompaniment for a summer in the South Atlantic.

The origin story for Margarita Gose dates back to when Appalachian Mountain Brewery “won the Brewbound ‘Start-Up Brewery Challenge’ in 2014 and visited Portland’s Widmer Brothers Brewing to brew a victory collaboration beer.”  It was during this experience that the brewing team at Appalachian Mountain Brewery “learned about kettle-souring techniques and the inspiration for Marg Gose was born.”

“Brewing that first sour beer with Widmer Brothers sparked our creativity, and we fell in love with the style,” said Nathan Kelischek, Brewmaster at Appalachian Mountain Brewery. “We kicked off our sour program here in Boone, and we’ve been experimenting with kettle sours ever since, adding our own High Country flair to the traditional style.”

Margarita Gose will roll out in June and is expected to hang around as long as supplies last.  You can expect to find this Limited Release offering available in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft at select craft beer-friendly establishments located within Appalachian Mountain Brewery’s distribution footprint in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.  Prost!

It may have been in the early 1800’s by a pirate known as El Pirata Cofresí; he stole from rich merchants and gave the spoils to the poor in Puerto Rico, but the recipe was lost when he was caught and executed. It didn’t resurface again until the 1950’s and there are three other different people and places that claim to have invented it.
