Ballast Point Brewing Company (San Diego, California) has officially sent out a 2018 Product Release Calendar that features three new series that will realign the brewery’s portfolio, a couple new brews, and few availability updates.
There has been a bit of a lull in brewery calendars lately, but rest assured that we will treat this one just as we have the others. Ballast Point’s full 2018 Product Release Calendar is available below for you to go over at your own pace, but there are a few highlights and changes that we need to cover before we send you to that document:
Ballast Point will restructure its portfolio in 2018 to include three distinct series: The Discovery Series, The Flagship Series, and the Explorer Series. This change has been put in place to help consumers easily distinguish the brewery’s wide portfolio and find exactly what they are after in a beer selection.
Meant to “serve as a great way to ‘discover’ Ballast Point though their approachability and exceptional quality”, the beers in The Discovery Series will all weigh in at 6% ABV or under. These gateway beers will include Year-Round offerings such as Bonito Blonde, Mango Even Keel and Longfin Lager. The Discovery Series will also feature a rotating lineup that will include Tart Peach Kolsch (April – July), Grunion (July – November) and Piper Down (December).
The Flagship Series will consist of “signature beers like Sculpin, Manta Ray, and Victory at Sea—pinnacles of their styles and premium award-winners. They also carry higher ABVs, 7% and above.” This series will also consist of Year-Round and Rotating offerings.
The Explorer Series will be made up of limited releases that feature “bold, exotic flavors and styles, like barrel-aged and sour offerings.” This series includes offerings such as Red Velvet (January – February), Tongue Buckler (February – March), and High West Barrel Aged Victory at Sea (November – December).
Aloha Sculpin will make its debut in February as a part of the brewery’s Flagship Series. Aloha Sculpin uses “Brux Trois yeast to turn [the brewery’s] award-winning IPA into a tropical oasis, with bright and refreshing notes of mango, pineapple and guava, along with a slight haze and smooth mouthfeel.”
The Explorer Series will also see a brand-new offering with the release of Moscow Mule Ale from March through July 2018. This offering is Ballast Point’s “take on the classic & refreshing cocktail, with ginger and tart lime in a light kettle sour beer. It’s an effervescent and aromatic beer just begging to be enjoyed in a copper mug.”
More Ballast Point offerings will be available in cans in 2018. This includes a rotating can 6-pack in the Discovery Series (Tart Peach Kolsch, Grunion Pale Ale, and Piper Down Scottish Ale), Unfiltered Sculpin IPA and Manta Ray DIPA in 12oz cans, as well as Sculpin IPA and Fathom IPA in 16oz cans.
Due to all of these changes and updates, a few offerings have been redesignated to become Seasonal (Grunion & Watermelon Dorado) or draft-only (Pumpkin Down, California Amber, Big Eye) releases in 2018.
That should just about cover all the details that we needed to go over, but there is still quite a bit to discover on the lengthy calendar below. Be sure to check it out so that you can be properly prepared for the fantastic year of beer ahead from Ballast Point Brewing Company. Prost!
Cascade Brewing (Portland, Oregon) came forward today to present a Product Release Calendar that boasts a streamlined lineup of eleven beers scheduled for release in both bottle and draft in 2018.
To keep with our usual approach to beer calendars, we have posted Cascade Brewing’s full 2018 Product Release Calendar below so that you can look it over at your own pace. That said, we probably should go over a few highlights before turning you over directly to the calendar. Let’s get to it:
The brewery will begin 2018 with the return of Sang Rouge in January. This offering “is a blend of sour red ales aged in select red wine barrels and fresh oak puncheons for up to 24 months.”
After selling out in record time in 2017, Cascade “has more than doubled the batch size” for the 2018 return of Kentucky Peach. It will hit in March.
The brewery will tackle summer with the mid-July launch of Peche Fume, Cascade’s second peach offering.
A new version of Cuvee du Jongleur – “a blend of select reds, triples and quads” – will be released in October. Often referred to as Cascade’s “White Whale”, this offering was last released in 2009.
Debuting in March as the brewery’s first “Limited Release” of 2018, Melonious Blond “is a blend of sour wheat and blondes aged up to 14 months with fresh Oregon Cantaloupe and Summer Kiss melons.” Melonious Blond is “Cascade’s first melon sour.”
An unnamed collaboration with Indiana’s Upland Brewing Co. will arrive in April. For this Limited Release, “Cascade will provide locally grown fresh pears from Oregon; while Upland will supply fresh Paw Paw fruit (a cross between a mango and a banana).” More details to come.
“In the coming year, we’re taking a slightly different approach to our annual release schedule,” stated Tim Larrance, vice president of sales and marketing. “We will be offering fewer releases, but making a greater quantity of cases and kegs available to our wholesalers worldwide, meaning more beer for everyone!”
Added lead blender Kevin Martin, “Narrowing our scope on fewer releases throughout the year will enable our production team to focus on the finer aspects of each blend, which we’re confident will result in some of the best beers ever to come out of our cellar.”
That should just about cover everything that we wanted to go over, but there are still a few old favorites and soon-to-be favorites left for you to find on the calendar below. Give it a good look, take some notes, and get ready for another outstanding year of Sour Ales from Cascade Brewing in 2018. Prost!
Great Divide Brewing Co. (Denver, Colorado) just added some intrigue to the year ahead with the publication of a 2018 Release Calendar that brings news of seven new beers.
Another day means another beer calendar, and we have Great Divide Brewing Co.’s full 2018 Release Calendar available below. You can jump straight to it, or bear with us while we quickly highlight those seven new brews. It’s totally your call . . .
2018 will see the introduction of Great Divide’s Wood Werks series, a new lineup of limited-edition barrel-aged and sour beers. The series will launch in February with Belgian-style Sour, a “Belgian-style tripel that was artfully soured for 15 months in red wine barrels and aged on plums.” Belgian-style Sour will be followed by Flemish Sour Brown with Strawberries in May, and Barrel Aged Brown Rye Ale in August.
Car Camper Gose will roll out in April as the brewery’s new Summer Seasonal. This refreshing little number is a German-style Sour brewed with guava & passionfruit.
Vanilla Oak Aged Yeti will arrive in May as the newest addition to the Yeti Clan. This oak-aged Imperial Stout has “sweet vanilla tones [that] meld into the oak characteristics . . . A pairing fit for a beast, the vanilla and oak are uplifted by the bold and roasty character we all know and love from [Yeti Imperial Stout].”
Back by popular demand, Rumble Oak Aged IPA will return as a part of the Tank Farm series in 2018. It will be available in 6-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft from May through September.
Beginning in May, Great Divide will add Heyday Modern IPA to its Year-Round portfolio. “What’s a Modern IPA you ask? Well, [Great Divide] brewed this beer in response to the shift in taste profile preferences of the modern IPA drinker. It’s slightly hazy (but not a hazy IPA) with abundant hop flavor and aroma of tropical fruit, berry, and melon. This contemporary IPA brings the multifaceted hop profile to the forefront without the expected bitterness and with a lighter body. It’s not “New England” or “hazy” or “west coast” or “English-style”, or “classic”, and it’s definitely not [Titan India Pale Ale]. It’s a modern IPA. Balanced and approachable, Heyday IPA is brewed for the modern Bold Character.”
That covers the new offerings, but there is still plenty to see on the calendar below. Give it a good look so that you can be properly prepared for the Great Divide awesomeness headed your way in 2018. Prost!

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Delaware) released its 2018 Beer Calendar today, and with that comes the exciting news that the brewery’s next band collaboration will be Dragons & YumYums with The Flaming Lips.
Alright, we all know the drill by now. Dogfish Head’s full 2018 Beer Calendar is posted below for you to go over at your leisure, but you best believe that we are going to first give you some details on that new collaboration with The Flaming Lips and a few other releases headed your way next year. Let’s get to it:
To continue “their decades-long tradition of banding together with the uniquely epic and imaginative”, Dogfish Head has teamed up with The Flaming Lips to bring you Dragons & YumYums in Spring 2018. This “intensely tropical yet subtlety bitter” Pale Ale is “brewed with a combination of dragonfruit, yumberry, passionfruit, pear juice and black carrot juice providing an explosion of fruit in every sip.” Clocking at 6.5% ABV, Dragons & YumYums will be available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft from April to August.
“The Flaming Lips are one of the most innovative and collaborative bands of all time and Dogfish shares a similarly playful and adventurous point of view,” says Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “Their art is a full-on otherworldly sensory experience and we strive to create that same intense sensational experience for craft beer drinkers in the development of our liquid art.” Good tunes and great beer are at the heart of Dogfish as the brewery composed a musically inspired series of brews with artists like Miles Davis, Deltron 3030, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam and Guided by Voices. “Our brewery has been obsessed with music since the day we opened,” says Calagione. “And we have enjoyed every opportunity to weave together the art of brewing with our love of music, as often and meaningfully as we can.”
Speaking of musically-inspired brews, Wood-Aged Bitches Brew will return in February with Year-Round availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft. “Brewed as an homage to Miles Davis’ 1970 landmark jazz-rock fusion record”, Wood-Aged Bitches Brew is a “bold, honey-enhanced, imperial stout” that will be boasting “a new, wood-centric spin as this version is aged and blended in giant oak and Palo Santo wood tanks resulting in a vanilla, chocolatey-licorice wood aroma with a sweet, roasty, coffee flavor finish.”
Mixed Media – “a rustic Saison and Farmhouse blend with a crisp and quenching finish” – will arrive in May 2018 as a new Limited Release offering. Created to be “the ultimate beer-wine hybrid”, Mixed Media is “brewed with 51% of the fermentables coming from pils malt, malted wheat and flaked oats, and 49% coming from late harvest Viognier grape must harvested for Dogfish by friends at Alexandria Nicole Cellars in Washington.” Mixed Media will have availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft (May to September).
Fruit-Full Fort will also debut in 2018 as a new Limited Release. Brewed with Pils malt, Munich malt and Malted Wheat, this special offering is then fermented “with a big ol’ bundle of fresh berry juices including boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry and elderberry.” This results in an “ageable” Belgian-style Ale that “leaves the taste buds warm with jammy dark fruit notes and deeply complex flavors.” Fruit-Full Fort will have availability in 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft from July to September.
Dogfish Head will also celebrate its Off-Centered Art Series in 2018. For this series, the brewery has “partnered with highly acclaimed artist, Marq Spusta, to create custom pieces of art for beers that brings their unique stories to life through visuals.” Art Series Beers include Romantic Chemistry (February – May), Dragons & YumYums (April – August), Punkin Ale(August – November) andLiquid Truth Serum (November – February). All beers in this series will have availability in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draft.
That should cover just about everything we wanted to go over, but there are still plenty of amazing beers left to discover on the calendar below. Give it a good look and get ready for another ridiculously good year of craft beer from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Prost!
